It's funny, although they only listen to stuff song by song instead of albums they do seem to have a broader knowledge over songs across the decades than I would have expected! I wonder if that knowledge is built up from TV show soundtracks? These days a lot of the shows I watch tend to have all the classics embedded in them. I think some of it is, he's definitely picked up a lot from stranger things etc. |

I've missed three gigs in the last week due to illness. Was supposed to see Snooper, Moonlandingz and Omni. I've seen Snooper recently so that was OK, but the Moonlandingz show was the first in years and sounded like an amazing show, and that's the 3rd time I have missed Omni despite having tickets.
Monday it's A Place to Bury Strangers in a tiny 150 capacity venue - that one should be amazing so if I am not better by then I'm going to be apoplectic.

Nice. Didn't know this was coming up and probably would have been interested as a much better alternative to Oasis for my 90s fix (I didn't get through the ballet for the extra dates and, to be honest, I'm not that bothered). Looks to be all sold out at the Roundhouse though.

It was one of those that 'sell out' in seconds, and then about 10-20 min later, after constant refreshing, you manage to scoop up a pair of tickets when someone else drops them out of their basket. I don't know what the answer is for ticket sales, but this isn't it!! Spotted on Twitter this morning that the Stereo MCs are touring - tickets are on sale and still available. I can't make the London date, but I've seen them twice in the past year* and they were really good. *Shiiine On in Minehead, and then on tour with Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets |

I get the impression that Nish’s stuff will look positively Centrist Dad compared to this year’s AON tour show.

Not music, but I dunno where else to post it. And there was a DJ. And I did go to the exact same venue for a music festival last month and it did feel very similar... X-Games: Chiba Edition. This was great fun. Got to watch Sky Brown and most of the girls from the Paris Olympics skateboarding in the Park final. Plus some bmx best-tricks where they apparently have anti-grav because they just hover in the air while spinning the bike a few dozen times, and some Moto X which they have to be absolutely insane to even attempt. Plus a few other events. Only real complaint would be that it felt like they could have had a few more events going on, rather than just one at a time with gaps in between. Oh, and they played the Xenon 2: Megablast theme song during one of the events, so that is now stuck in my head. |

More than slightly disappointing line up for the IW Festival. Sting, Faithless, Stereophonics, Justin Timberlake. The latter is definitely a surprise, doesn't quite fit with the vibe. Sting didn't impress me the other week. Looking forward to seeing Stereophonics again mind. It's down the road too, so sure it'll be good fun regardless.

They are excellent live and a great back catalogue. Not fussed by the others though. Some decent smaller acts like Texas, James, Paul Heaton. All of which I've seen before but I guess that's half the problem - very few big names anymore, and especially those who haven't played festivals before.

Off to see Frank Carter and the Sex Pistols tonight. Booze & Glory next weekend, Sham 69 two weeks after that and then Sum 41 on the 28th.
I get a brief respite then it's Punk Rock Factory in November followed by Alien Ant Farm and CKY.
Then Academy In The UK in December.

I haven't seen Terrorvision since '97, really getting the itch to see them again but they rarely seem to venture down to the south coast apart from the odd festival (I'm not a festival guy)... I wish they'd play Brighton, think they'd get a good crowd down here. How to Make Friends and Regular Urban Survivors are both great albums, they were one of my favourite bands in my teens, now my kids love them on our family playlist  |

Nish Kumar was very good. Pretty much as you’d expect with lots of topical jokes. Nice to see him in Durham as he was celebrating 20 years since starting Durham Uni which was where he got into comedy. And it was at a stand-up night in a venue I used to attend a lot during that time apparently.
Andrew O’Neill was brilliant but it was a bit of a gear change going from a sold out 500 capacity theatre for Nish to a 60ish audience in a basement club. Featured one of the most stunting punchlines I’ve ever seen. I know being billed as the non-binary black metal comedian is always going to be a bit of a niche thing but their stuff is really closer to a slightly darker Bill Bailey than anyone else so could easily draw a bigger crowd if they got the exposure their decade+ career probably deserves.
Got Pictish Trail doing a solo show on Monday and tickets for two of the Pitmen Poets doing traditional north eastern folk coming up now.
Plus Get Up Kids next summer and the poet/comedisn Rob Auton in the spring.
