My point is that saying 'it's From so it's expected' is a rubbish stance to take. You can like their games and still want them to improve technically. It's the same sentiment that lets Bathesda get away with releasing their games in the state they do
The 'it's never the game's fault' line that gets trotted out has never washed with me because their games are provably inconsistant (weapons deflecting off walls, except when they don't, which is quite often is one example)
Face it, it's going to be shit

Why didn't the dragon flatten the hero. Was his aim just terrible?!?!

I have no idea because I'm not watching the trailer or anything else until release.
I don't play Souls games because I want something technically astounding, I play them because they draw me into the world in a way that no other series does. If I get clipped in a hallway I pick myself up, sippy sippy, and on with the adventure.

The camera was never really something that pissed me off massively until trying to target those flying manta ray things in the demons remake. I actually just turned it off and haven't gone back since.

What if you were carrying 46000 souls, just got past a really difficult bit for the first time that used up all your restoratives, then when trying to kill a weakling in a tight space, your weapon glances off the wall but his doesn't and he kills you. What then Danno

I swear, loudly, might have another go, might not and leave it til tomorrow or play another build some. Not a dealbreaker, I'm going to absolutely rinse the game several times regardless. Am fanboy.

Interestingly, if rumours are to be believed, Elden Ring will be going up against the Demon's Souls remake, a Bloodborne remake and Bloodborne 2 on the same system, which I imagine will be technically superior. Wonder which will be most fondly remembered

Can't we all just agree that anybody who doesn't like the look of it is wrong?

I will compromise and say if it was on the Xbox 360 it would be one of its best looking games.
How's that?

Having been blown away by Demon Souls, but bouncing off it halfway through due to difficulty and my laziness, Elden Ring looks incredible.
This is going to be a 10/10 game. I’d put money on it.
I also think most From games don’t often look fantastic. But this one does.
The open world aspect really appeals to me. I get bored of the linear, tight corridors of other From games.
Wow, is all I can say to this gameplay video.

My friend has eyes, and she said it looked like a World of Warcraft tribute game. Running on 2006 hardware.

I'm a little burnt out with open world I actually quite like the more focused level design of soulsbournes.

I just watched it properly for the first time on the big 4k screen and not my phone. Looks gorgeous, the reflections in the water the lighting. I thought especially the part in the autumn like forest where they are sneaking through looked amaze balls. Then pretty much the final images where the boss has grabbed the player and sets him on fire, the facial animations and all the arms etc. There was so much detail.
I also loved that they've taken most of sekiros traversal and stealth and mixed it with dark souls and added more/faster magic. Plus fall damage is clearly mostly gone, like sekiro you take damage but only when jumping from crazy heights not just smaller drops.

I think it is a little unfair to say that From have never excelled with their graphics. I suppose on a technical front they certainly aren't at the forefront, but they are always artistically beautiful. Sekiro in particular is a fucking gorgeous game.
There is something a bit flat from the footage I've seen of Elden Ring. There is a bit of sparseness to its look, which is probably inevitable for an open world game. I have no doubt that their art style will excel once again though and it already looks like their boss character design will be great.
I'm avoiding footage and reading as much as possible about this, as I want to go in as blind as possible. I'm slightly concerned that the open world nature might dilute the brilliant level design. Personally, I enjoy the exploration of the tighter corridors that make up most of the previous From games. I really hope that the "dungeon" areas will maintain that element.

I believe huge swathes of the game are fixed dungeons, they've just tried to place them in a single overworld. Personally I prefer the sparse, open style, I don't want to be running around an Ass Creed style map covered in activities.

I must say it was weird in the year of our lady 2021 to see a map with no icons.
