Definitely waiting for the review on this one I think then - need to hear more about the actual open world side of things and how it all connects, as I can't see anything new apart from a horse that can do large jumps. What else do you bloody want? No fall damage?
As it so happens...

I'd suggest you all give it a few weeks after launch before giving it a go.
(That buys me some time to trick out a PvP build so I can jump out from behind a tree when you least expect it and bury you, mwuhahahaha)

My worry is that with a vast open world the level of obfuscation that they could put in to block players seeing some of the areas, bosses, endings etc could be outrageous. Sekiro was the worst for it so its not like they've made it easier. You could get some real bullshit like "Pick up the seed of life before you go to this area, then bring it back to your hometown and plant it. Get the water from Billy Bob by killing him as soon as you see him, if you talked to him at all you've locked yourself out of seeing the best ending. Follow the remaining 20 steps to get the ending"

I got my preferred ending in Seikro first time without looking anything up (Homecoming) and the 'true' ending in Bloodborne the same way. DS3 is the only one really obtuse one I can think of
I've never cared for the fantasy setting of Dark Souls, so to me the main draw is exploring tightly constucted areas and killing the next enemy in front of me. I don't see the open world adding anything but drawing it out and including open world tropes I'm not interested in. I imagine if fantasy bobbins is your thing, having a whole world to wander around in for dozens of hours without really accomplishing anything is probably more exciting
The magic horsey super jump does look silly but From have always handled verticality the same way, usually with random elevators or ridiculously long ladders that make no sense beyond connecting two areas
Not sure if I've got another From game in me to be honest

I thought the new gameplay demo looked good. I didn’t bother with Sekiro. I don’t doubt it’s a great game but it’s not a souls game. This looks like a new souls game so I will be all over this when it comes out. The combat, the exploration and the bosses tick all the boxes for me. And co-op is back which is one of my favourite parts of the soulsbourne games. Even if you can beat them solo, they are so much more fun playing with friends or strangers online.

The graphics look like the Co-op made it. COME RIGHT IN MY FACE Ok but I'm eating co-op own brand tinned pineapple all day long first, so that you can taste the poor quality.

My worry is that the level design might become a little diluted with the move to a (more) open world. They've been great at infusing their levels with a sense of purpose, atmosphere and history while also making them interesting places to explore mechanically (with some daft exceptions). I really hope that hasn't been sacrificed for scale.
On the visuals, I loved the look of the Dark Souls games and Bloodborne because they had great atmosphere and kept showing me interesting things, not for their polygon counts or fancy shaders. As long as it delivers on design I couldn't care less if it isn't state of the art on a technical level.

I'm with Danno though. I can't watch any footage. Need to go in dark like I do with all Fromsoft games. If people are saying it's effectively Souls IV, then that will do for me. My only concern is these games getting too hard for me now. I really struggled with Demons remake despite rinsing the original several times. Nearly cried myself to sleep playing Sekiro and bounced off Nioh 2 due to how shit I now am. Still looking forward to seeing how it will bend me over though.

Probably because saying "Doesn’t look as good as BotW on Switch though" is an odd thing to say. Odd if you’re a nerd, yes. Anyhoo, game looks like a 10/10. Still quite a long way away and nothing new to play on PS5 until then.

As is the norm there's a confirmed 4k mode and a 60fps mode.
