Yeah, no accent or characterization, it’s just his regular speaking voice.

Chris Pratt is Chris Pratt as Mario, no change from his regular voice at all.
Looks very good though and at least Jack Black is doing some work.

Yeah skipping the Italian thing doesn't bother me. Animation looks great! Shame sonic film didn't go this way.

His voice just doesn’t fit a short chubby man with a moustache that well, it sounds too cheerful but then it does in the game too.

I always felt that Sonic was Belgian.

He is from Nebraska. From the sonic Bible;
"Sonic (whose real name is revealed to be Sonny Hedgehog) lives under a hedge next to a burger joint in Hardy, Nebraska, with his mother and five sisters. He is a regular hedgehog, about the size of a bowling ball (he even visits bowling alleys to play practical jokes on the bowlers by curling up and pretending to be a bowling ball). He is naturally fast, as he runs along hedgerows at great speeds, a skill he inherited from his deceased father. Although he doesn't speak human language, he learns to read and write by watching human children play."

He said "Mushroom Kingdom here we come" instead of go, 0/10 worst movie ever /s Seriously though, looks genuinely fun and nicely animated. Probably won't go to see it on premiere or anything (not even sure if it'll be playing over here, at least not in any theater close enough to go to on a whim) but looking forward to it

This just feels like some of the questionable dubs we used to get with the ghibli films. Always the most in vogue actors of the moment, regardless of good fit.

Regardless of all the internet fuss the quality of this seems quite exceptional.

So after all that he just sounds like Chris Pratt anyway He sounds like Chris Pratt doing Linda from Bobs Burgers. You cant unhear it and now the film is ruined for anyone who reads this.

I've got no interest at all in Mario stuff but even I found his voice a bit jarring. Probably would have been ok if Pratt wasn't so recognisable.

I was meaning to give it a go, but don't think I'll be able to now; it will be ruined by me constantly thinking that Linda sounds like she is doing Chris Pratt from the Super Mario Bros movie.

Voice is jarring but I don't agree it's his normal speaking voice... his normal speaking voice was in the direct. His Mario voice does sound obviously different to me.

Seems OK to me. It's not Mario's voice but he's not using his normal voice. Tonally it seems about right. It could be that having a constant 'it's a mee!' going throughout a movie might be a bit grating.
I suspect there'll be some fan service where they include the classic voice and catchphrase at some point.

Well, it looks to be playing it disappointingly safe. I might just watch the 1993 movie this weekend, just to remember what passed as a videogame adaptation in the 90's.
(I also happen to think it's an okay movie, though it kinda falls flat in the latter half)

Surprised there are people out there that actually wanted the Charlies Martinet voice or something akin to that - it's fine for the odd line in the games, but would be terrible for a whole movie! It's not really Mario, it's Chris Pratt playing Mario, and that's fine - he did the Lego Movie and that was great (and this seems like it will have a similar everyday man out of his depth in a strange new world-type theme) so I don't understand all the criticism based on a couple of lines of dialogue.
