Quite surprised to see this game didn't already have its own thread here, seeing as it seemed quite popular on EG, anyway ever late to the party I guess I'm about 1/3 of the way through now, gosh it's rare I find a game these days that can draw me in so far, I was racking my brains thinking of when I last felt this way about a game, perhaps HL2, Bioshock or Fallout 3, everything about it is nailed, I've not long finished the first game on the PS3 and they've taken that and literally added everything you could possibly want to make this as polished as it is. Some really nice subtle little effects too, I'm like a little boy, smashing glass never seems to get old.
I predominantly seem to be favouring a slow and methodical stealthy approach, exploring every nook and cranny collecting everything I can find and generally savouring the moment, avoiding gunfights as much as possible, I still haven't fired my shotgun and only used the rifle once at the beginning by accident, my boy is also playing through this and we've been watching each other play, it's been really interesting to see his approach which is basically still stealthy but a lot more ballsy and inevitably he's often scraping away with little heath/ammo and missing half the loot but he's enjoying it just as much as I am which is the important thing.
I'm seldom interested in the story in games usually but the story and characters here, like the first game does seem to be quite compelling, I am hoping there's more to it than just revenge! Over the last few months prior to starting this I did find out a few spoilers, as I never expected a single game to convince me to get a PS4 but here we are and I'm glad I did.
The single thing I would change so far is to give Ellie another couple of stealth kill animations.

I felt like that to the 15 hours mark, but by 30 I just wanted it to end. If it were shorter I would reply it.
It's too tense to go on for that long.
That's why I prefer games like RE2. It's tense but over in a few hours, and infinitely replayable.

Such a great game.
Lucky enough to play through on PS5 for the first time. Incredible achievement on so many levels.
Didn't think it was too long as the quality was consistent all the way through.

It's tense but over in a few hours, and infinitely replayable. Definitely this. Survival horror games shouldn't be any longer than 10 hrs really, after a certain point the game will have played all its cards. As flashy as the animations look, the combat in TLOU2 is not varied or deep enough to warrant 30 hrs of it. If they cut down the number of encounters I think it would have been more impactful. Wasn't a fan of the story or the narrative structure for it. Let's just say I wouldn't be rushing to get TLOU3.

I played it on PS5 first and it really is a stunning game. I still can't believe that it was a PS4 game originally, it's an incredible achievement. As to the game itself, I did think it went on a little long, but I really was engrossed in it throughout so I'm not sure if I really felt it all too much. I definitely think Abby's half was the better half, as I preferred her character, her story, her friends, all of that . I do think that it's one of these one and done games for me. It's just too long for a repeat playthrough. Not necessarily a bad thing as I think it's all the more powerful for being played once only.

Quite often I've just let Ellie or whoever I'm playing as just get killed just to watch the various methods of her getting dispatched, getting stamped on or beaten to a pulp or the old throat bite etc, kinda feels a bit wrong and against instincts to just let those moments play out sometimes.

I'm still enjoying this no end, I am a bit too stealthy I think, on my next play through I'll maximise the occurrence of supplies in the settings and avoid stealth altogether. That said as I'm playing stealthyly supplies aren't exactly scarce anyway.

Initially played this at launch on PS4 and then replayed again on PS5 the other week, I think it's perfect in length. I could have spent more time in the world and with this story to be honest. Loved every aspect of it.
I've always wanted the crafting and gameplay of TLoU in the Fallout universe, that would be perfection for me.

I completed The Hospital last night, it's obvious there's a build up to something but you know, nobody needs that in their life! I've never been so anxious playing a game.

OK so as mentioned in the Recently Completed Games thread I finally finished this in 66hrs, 10/10. Just excellent throughout, graphics, story, pacing, gameplay, the lot. Ultimately a satisfying and satisfactory ending.
However, I do have the following observations:
Expand on some of the puzzle areas to make them a bit more convoluted. Add more secret areas (though maybe I've missed some). Give Ellie and Abby some different stealth kill animations. The jump animation on its own looks a bit dubious though I get that you only really need to jump between gaps and then the animation does look alright. When you're sneaking about the place sometimes your allies jump and jog about the place when they really should be being quiet, they obviously don't get spotted but it does kinda undermine the immersion a little when you're all supposed to be hiding. OK so this gaming cliche it seems every game seems to be guilty of for some reason, if you're generally a pretty ultimate warrior type character then go through a doorway or opening in a wall quietly so as you don't get jumped by the obligatory villain waiting to clonk you on the head. Irrespective of whether you get jumped, go through the doorway stealthily. Often there’s only a few stock faces in some areas for the enemies which doesn't help the immersion, at the Farm I think I strangled eight women in a row all with the same face.
That said these are all pretty minor and in no way did any of these detract from my overwhelming enjoyment of the game.

It's hard to marry a 66 hour playtime with excellent pacing 😉
Personally thought there was too much padding on journey and return journeys.
Could have cut loads of it out, told the same story and would have made the pacing better.

Completely restarted this tonight, having lost my game saves after the death of my PS4.

Think it was closer to 30 hours for me and I didn't really feel it dragging that badly. Although I suppose I dropped it at the open world section at first which broke it up a bit.

I'm still enjoying this no end, I am a bit too stealthy I think, on my next play through I'll maximise the occurrence of supplies in the settings and avoid stealth altogether. So continuing my new play through I'm still playing super stealthy, curses to my lack of ambition but I have turned the enemy aggression up so it's pretty challenging at times, for me. I have no idea how I'll do the hospital with aggression set high, I'm already feeling anxious about it.

I loved the game, albeit not as much as the first, but echo what I others say in that it was so gruelling and so bleak that I can’t see myself playing it through again.
Has to be said though, nothing has etched itself into my memory like the Last of Us games. And that’s saying something when my brain seems to be forgetting films and other stuff almost as soon as I’ve stopped watching.
Was trying to remember the plot to the first Aquaman film the other day. Think he starts off in a bar… and then that’s it.

Sounds like the start of a bad joke 🤣 Aquaman walks into a bar… oof! It was Admiral Akbar! Wait, I can do better… Aquaman walks into a bar. He asks for salted nuts. The barman says “aren’t they already?”

I think I will play it again eventually, but not right now. I need something to uplift me, like shooting perps in the face with Robocop.

FTFY Yeah, I want to play it again at some point, but at the same time the story is still pretty fresh in my head. It's definitely rare to get that with any TV or film from a few years ago.

If you have the ps4 disc and do the upgrade, do you need to keep the disc if you want to play it or does it change it to a digital version?

If you have the ps4 disc and do the upgrade, do you need to keep the disc if you want to play it or does it change it to a digital version? It has to be in the drive whenever you play. It's just a way of checking you own the licence. It's the same as the upgrade for the Uncharted 4 Collection.

www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2024-the-last-of-us-part-2-remastered-ps5-tech-analysisThe title of the article really belies the content. I know it's not supposed to be a substantial upgrade over the PS4 version on the PS5 but there appears to be no big differences other than foliage that has less pop in and loading time of 16 seconds with the 60fps mode on both versions, I suppose the 4k mode with a VRR 120HZ TV is where the upgrade is where you can get 40-60fps there or upto 90fps in thr performance mode.
