Just watched the six minute trailer, and it came across as the bastard offspring of Crackdown and Destiny, and I'm kinda OK with that? Co-op is very much my jam.
What did surprise - and maybe it was just the stream - is it looked last-gen AF. Maybe one to pick up on sale a few months post launch with some mates and plough through as a one-and-done.

Well, that goes into the ignorable part. Almost every Ubisoft game going is basically live service by now, but I still rinsed Valhalla without every really getting into the min/max bollocks. Same with that crappy Avengers game to some extent, the single player campaign was a middling-to-enjoyable romp and then I noped out of all the bullshit after that, and felt like I got my money’s worth. I appreciate my stubborn refusal to play any kind of online multiplayer makes me an outlier in that regard though, I imagine if you tried to get into the online crap with Avengers it was going to be like drinking paint.

Myself and kinky_mong have a very good friend who was involved in a major way on a certain part of this game, career defining thing for him. Told me years ago he got the gig and obvs off the back of the Arkham games, absolutely incredible he got it.
Obviously since, keeps messaging me talking about it and I have zero interest in anything I've seen of it. Thought the gameplay video looked so dull and I can't stand any game as a service shit or Battlepass bollocks. Feel like i have to buy and play it to support him but fuck me, I definitely don't want to! I keep liking tweets that moan about the battle pass stuff hoping he'll see them and easier for me to say mate very proud of you but nah.

Ive played and enjoyed single player content on live service games and obstinately refused to engage with their shennaigans but I would have enjoyed it even more had all that shit not been in there in the first place. Outriders is the most egregious example. It didnt even launch with a fucking storefront but it still had you picking up a new +0.2 Shot Speed Rifle every five seconds. |

I'm frankly not sure why everyone who wants to take on the Destiny formula has to make everything so needlessly deep. Like, do I really want to check out every rifle for one with +0.2 shot speed? Destiny does at least have a much simpler system: if the gun has better perks you equip it, otherwise you don't.

This reminds me that I have indeed spent too many hours in Diablo 3, farming for that one pauldron that was the same as the one I had but with slightly better chances of critical attack.
And I don't even wanna think about all the materials and gold I wasted re-rolling properties, until I finally increased my lighting damage from +19% to +20%. Totally worth it, I think.

I don't really understand this concept of a Battle Pass. It sounds like you pay money for the opportunity to unlock cosmetic items, rather than just getting access to them? Do you get extra content that lead to the unlocks or are you just literally paying money to do more work?

There are usually two tiers, free and paid. You'll unlock stuff on them as you gain XP or whatever, but it's not all available from the start.
And yeah, it's usually cosmetic fluff or small amounts of crafting materials etc. Totally ignorable.

As Dfunked said, but it has been confirmed that you pay for the battle pass and there are free tiers. For a 70 quid game. To also echo Phattso, it definitely looks quite last gen.

I enjoyed all three Batman games, to varying degrees, but I'd never say any were bad.
I'll listen to what the reviews say on this one I guess.

I don’t care about it being a live service, I just care about whether the game it’s enjoyable enough for me to want to finish a decent length main story.
12 hours of something that’s a lot of fun is enough for me. If there’s other shite around it I don’t care as long as I can ignore it.
The gameplay videos don’t really look amazing but I’ll wait till it’s out.

In most games the battle pass offers good "value" because it's much cheaper than the other items in the in game store and gives your way more content. The trade off is you have to do what's effectively menial work in the form of challenges to get them. But you can't do them all in one go, because that would mean you'd play the game on your terms, have your fun and stop, which apparently is a disaster. Instead the challenges get released weekly/daily, to ensure you keep logging in to do them to upgrade your pass because you want to get the stuff you paid for don't you? In some games these challenges expire too so tough shit if you can't play for a week. Also the stuff in the Passes may never come back so it's further FOMO, and then they cycle it onto another season of a pass where you repeat the process. It's quite predatory but it works really well unfortunately. I just can't really stand a paid pass in a full price game, and it's worse when you watch the gameplay and know exactly what the content is going to be like. The guns also have damage numbers in their thousands ffs. It's a recipe for bullet sponge enemies and the worst kind of loot variety where differences are barely noticeable in real play. That's what I mean about how live service games are generally doomed to fail as you can only have so many on the go at the same time and people usually stick to one or two max because they're time investments and if the gameplay loop or mechanics aren't good enough they'll have a cursory look at maybe the campaign, at a push because not many people complete games these days, and sack it off moving onto the next thing.

Have to wonder what a delay of that length will really do for the game to be honest. It's not that the showcase looked rough in the strictest sense, it's what the game actually IS that's the problem. Not sure another 6 months in the oven will change that.

It's possible they reduce some of the predatory elements like the battle pass, and maybe manage to kill that always online bollocks. Perhaps even rebalancing the game for single player.
But I'm dreaming aren't I.
It's definitely a worrying sign given it was due to release quite soon and has been under wraps for a long time

That's my thing, it's a game that isn't really for me because I personally a think a dev as esteemed as Rocksteady is worth more than a live service multiplayer 3rd player looter shooter with a high chance of being shut down after a year but all 4 characters were, apart from their designs, almost identical. Ridiculous. |
