Marky Mark will be in the last scene with a moustache. Only THEN will you realise that this was in fact, genius casting.

Just saw this trailer. Tom Holland for new Bond!
Does anyone else have this thing with cgi action scenes where some of them can be really exciting, but others can just leave you completely cold?
I mean, 99% of the recent avengers movies were cgi, and probably a lot of Bond was too, but it was still involving enough to get me invested in it and excited. But that behind-the-plane sequence in the Uncharted trailer was just so ridiculous that it wasn't even remotely exciting. It might just be the quality of the cgi, but I think it's because they didn't even attempt to make it 'believable' (not that a lot of stuff in the aforementioned films was that 'believable' tbh). I had the same issue with Venom.
I spent most of the trailer just wanting the watch The Living Daylights again.

New trailer. This could have actually been good, and even could have worked with Holland even though he is too young looking. But Wahlberg as Sully absolutely kills it for me. Looks to just being doing his generic Mark Wahlberg stuff which is the same in all his movies. Awful awful casting.

I think the Die Another Day trailer was the first time I ever experienced seeing the total film in a trailer.

It was never working with Tom Holland as Drake for me. He's too short and looks far too young. He looks like he should play 12yr old Drake.

So to summarise: - Drake 10 years too young with a different origin story
- Sully a different character, except the name
- No Elena (?)
- Different story than any of the games
- Different musical theme
So they followed the "Hollywood Guide To Video Game Movies" pretty closely.

They’ve gone young with Drake because in ludicrously over optimistic logic, they want to be able to keep the franchise going for years.

Tom Holland will probably still look twelve when he's in his fifties.

It might have been better to go with an older Drake and then they could do prequels and whatever in a few years with someone younger. Holland has that issue that Michael J Fox has that he’s going to look about 15-17 until he’s in his mid thirties and then it’s going to be weird. He could have a great career but serious roles will be a challenge.

He's decent in Cherry too. He will always look young though, not helped by the fact he's also short. But I'm sure he'll manage fine with his career.

I quite enjoyed it, fairly standard adventure movie stuff with bits of Uncharted 3 and 4 plundered for plot and action sequences.
Perfectly watchable but few surprises as Sony seemed determined to give away a lot of the film in the trailers*. Nice cameo from a familiar face though and Sophia Ali as Chloe gets no complaints from me...
*part of the mid-credits scene is in the final trailer which is mental.

Yeah, when I saw the trailer, I thought Chloe was cast perfectly. How's Banderas as the villain? Seeing him in the trailers makes me want to see it alone.

He's fine, quite surprised at how much of his dialogue is in Spanish as he's talking with his character's dad and unlike a lot of movies two non-native English speakers stick to their own language and there's subtitles.

I thought it wasn't too bad actually. Yeah lots of UC 4 and bits of 3 plundered for plot.
For me there are two problems. First was some of the casting choices. I got on board with Tom Holland quite quickly because he really gets into it and he turns out a convincing "younger Drake", like not a kid but not yet a grown ass man. It would still have been better to have someone older and taller to play it closer to the game lore, but you get on board with him because he's really good, he does lots of acrobatic stuff really well (I guess an older, bigger guy would have to be an Olympic athlete to do stuff that Drake does in the games like climbing and parkour etc. And you can tell he's into the games himself.
The lady playing Chloe is great in all but one aspect, she's got no ass.
But the worst is Wahlburg as Sully. He's rubbish. His voice is above 5 octaves to high and he simpers his lines out like Bob out of Fight Club. He doesn't have any big American drawl, twang or presence like Victor GODDAMN Sullivan. That and he just doesn't fit the bill visually at all. Too young, no grey hair, not even a cigar until the post credits scene. He almost gets it right when he calls Nate "kid", but nah it just doesn't fit. I actually like Mark Wahlburg, but not in this.
The other problem I've got is story choices. Without getting too spoilery, the characters all bicker and back stab way too much, and too much is made at the beginning of Nate being a thief. You don't instantly fall in love with the characters and their relationships with each other like you do in the games. That got fucked right up.
And there's the omission of Alena, who I think kind of appears as the blonde in the bar at the start who gives Nate the cold shoulder. It was a bad choice to omit her character out, but they should have just completely left it, not put that woman in who was obviously supposed to be a nod to Alena.
Some more positives- there's some great and exciting action scenes, some genuinely funny jokes and there was enough fan service to allow me, a massive Uncharted fan, to geek out fairly hard a couple of times. Tom Holland is an oddly young but very good Drake.
I know they want to do a sequel but it hasn't been green lit yet. Unfortunately I don't think it will be because I don't reckon this will do good numbers, but I hope it does get made cos this was kind of alright.
7/10

Yeah I enjoyed it too. It was bonkers and very Indiana Jones crossed with fast and furious.
I think Elena was out of this because it's meant to be a prequel. And it works as that seeing Sully and Chloe knew each other from a good bit before the first game, right? But cannot be canon surely, because Sam and Sully are the same age in this? I dunno, it's not really important.
I hated the casting originally, but got on board with it mostly watching it. But Wahlberg is clearly nothing like Sully from the games.
Good fun action, popcorn movie, with some laughs too. 7.5/10

Enjoyed it a lot to be honest. Far more than I thought I was going to. The casting for Nate and Sully seemed very silly on the face off it but Holland and Wahlberg played off each other well. Will definitely go back and watch a sequel, was good fun

It's probably something of a rarity that Tom Holland was playing his actual age too. Funnily enough when Sully calls Nate short and Nate says something along the lines that he's only an inch at most shorter than him, in reality Holland and Wahlberg are both 5'8". A perfectly fine height that I'm not saying that because I'm also that size.
