I'm on a break from wrestling some mudguards onto my winter bike- its turning into a military grade engineering project but the front one is on and not rubbing and the rear is kind of lined up. Bring on the rain (just not until I've finished).

No don't bring on the rain because bar an 'asssaver' I can't fix guards onto my frame.
Wetness for all!

I was so happy to get a hybrid/urban bike years ago with the proper half-wheel rear guard so i don't look like i've shat myself up my back when i get into work in the rain.

First winter with the brompton, we recently moved as well so my 4 miles a day is now 8 miles a day.
I have entered my final form as a cyclist and bought baselayers including shorts with a pad for my Gooch as that's taken a hammering (whilst cycling)

Check the old saddle position 😲 Your ‘sit bones’ in the pelvis should be bearing the weight, rather than your soft, squishy, gooch…

I started getting Raynaud's on my fingers during winter a couple of years ago, so started carrying Hot Hands hand warmer pouches to stuff inside my gloves to stop my hands freezing / fingers going numb on the coldest winter MTB rides. I get warm enough on road rides to not need them, but for long off-road descents they've been a revelation. I guess you can get electrically-heated gloves but apparently they're pretty much all shite.
Other winter kit that has saved various extremities over the years include the Rapha merino neck warmer buff thing, which you can pull right over your head to cover your ears under your helmet, Seal Skinz waterproof socks for the wetter days on the MTB, DeFeet Woolie Boolie socks for cold rides, GripGrab Aqua Shield shoe covers for wet road rides. Castelli Perfetto jerseys are also fantastic and when combined with a decent thermal base layer, are warm and dry enough for pretty much all but the coldest UK conditions.

Even after multiple bike fits, I was just using the wrong type of saddle. I tried out a saddle with a cutout (Specialized Power Pro) and realised it didn't have to be this way. Now I can still feel my manhood even after many hours hunched over my bars like a shitting alsatian.

I love the Rapha pro team thermal base layers, with a turtleneck/buff built in. I’m wearing one right now in fact, just got in from a ride that started out too cold and ended up too hot, fucking autumn. I don’t bother with merino any more, doesn’t last very long in my experience, man made fibres all the way

I've been eyeballing some Rapha stuff for a few days now. Just need to pull the trigger on them!

Yea I love my Gabba/ Perfetto stuff, have tried other brands of 'cheaper Gabba' and it's just not as good, the Castelli stuff can be used from freezing all the way up to about 18 degrees, with no boil in the bag effect, it's perfect UK gear for most of the year.

You could move the saddle forward maybe, bring the wider part of the wedge underneath you

The saddle is in the highest position..Will look at.thr cut out saddles ta It could be due to your saddle being too high, which would put more pressure on the front of the saddle. It could also be rotated too far back, could be positioned too far back on its rails, could be the wrong shape for your body and riding position... lots of possible causes! It's definitely worth trying a few saddles out - some bike shops will let you try a few out before making a purchase.

I don’t bother with merino any more, doesn’t last very long in my experience, man made fibres all the way My best ever Rapha purchase was their old light merino base layer with short-sleeves and a lowish v-neck. Good for in the cold, also good for wearing under shirts for xmas dinners/nights out, where you looked like you were wearing a shirt, but were still toasty warm. Sadly, that wore through into holey areas pretty soon due to the thin weave. That was a sad day and they don't make them now. I still wore a coat mind, because I'm not some nutter like those glaswegians/geordies who are still just bowling about in just a t-shirt while wading through snow. Ashmei do decent merino/synthetic stuff but are a bit pricy. Love their running stuff and my favourite winter running jacket is from them. Nicely designed for function and usability. Never tried their cycling shizz though.

A Geordie mate once shared with me the secret, and that’s to layer increasingly larger t shirts on top of each other for warmth. Other blokes see one T shirt and think you’re a fooking hard bastard while in fact you’ve got 3 or 4 of them covering your smug little torso. Decks will confirm this

Would people be interested in a stealthy Fontgeek Strava club or that too revealing of our real life selves?

I would but then you'd all see how pathetic I am at cycling!
But I suppose it would force me to get out on my bike more often so you don't think I'm a lazy prick.
Anyone around the Bristol area? mostly so my records stay safe

Up the road in Cheltenham. I’ve discovered the best way to stop people taking your KOM’s is to not have any in the first place 👍

KOMs are a distant memory, pros and segment hunters/ chain gangs fill the leaderboard now. I had a few local legend things, but think I've lost most recently. Had one of those 30 seconds from my front door, which I obviously do a lot, some sad git went out one day and did about 20 reps of it to claim 'legend' status.. he's welcome to it. Reminds me, Zwift season approaching, going to mute all my indoor rides from people's feeds now we have that option, not proper rides are they.

Did a ramp test last night and still feeling it tbh.
Off to the gym soon, and not really looking forward to it, but I'm sure it'll be ok once i get going.

Yea I'd just rather not spam people with my virtual stuff; and damn I'd forgotten I need to do an FTP test to establish my zones again.. I really don't like those.

They're fun enough until they're not.
It always amazes me how they go from easy, ok, tougher, tough, too tough in a few mins time.

I chanced upon a nice 20km segment that I somehow tapped my way into the top 10, so me and a mate gunned it the following week 2 up. We got second, the kom appears to have done it on a TT so it’ll be difficult to top that 2 up. That’s the first bit of segment excitement I’ve had in ages, living in London everything’s been snaffled by groups of 7-8 on the club run

Sounds like you and your mate need to do it again on TT bikes.
