What are your favourite cover versions, fellow FGers?
Here are a few of mine:
Tool - No Quarter (original by Led Zeppelin)
Mastodon - Stairway to Heaven (original by... c'mon, you all know this one)
Melvins - Youth of America (original by Wipers)
Pinkish Black - New Dawn Fades (original by Joy Division)
Hot Snakes - Time to Escape (original by Government Issue)
Sleep - Snowblind (original by Black Sabbath)
Genghis Tron - Bad Penny (original by Big Black)
My Vitriol - Wait a Minute (original by Wipers)

I think we're done here.
But just in case Johnny Cash doing NiN Hurt has to be one of the best ones. Pretty much all of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are better than the originals.

We are totally not done yet. I love me some covers.
Fudge Tunnel - Sunshine of your Love (original by Cream)
Type O Negative - Summer Breeze (original by Seals and Crofts)
Vanilla Fudge - You just keep me hanging on (original by The Supremes)

This is the greatest cover version ever recorded.

Smells a bit of Patchouli, nasal hair, cabbage and long lost crusty youth in here so let's change the tempo a bit.
I'll have more when i remember them but i was listening to PMJ for the first time in a few months so these sprang to mind. That Maps cover by Morgan James is a classic in my book.

If "parody" covers count then this is another great parody cover.

Forgot this one, Big Black "The Model"
Prong doing "3rd From The Sun" (original by Chrome) is epic but the original is by a pretty obscure band so not really recognisable as a cover version
Also Soft Cell's version of "Tainted Love" is one of the best, IMO

There was recently (in the past year or so) a folksy acoustic cover by some kid of some shitty 2010 pop song. I thought it was Call Me Maybe but doesn’t appear so (the cover above is from 2012), and now my brain hurts trying to think of what it was

Covers are such a sensitive subject because you're bound to piss off someone who absolutely adores the original and thinks any other version is a garbage imitation.
Anyway, here's a cover I actively avoided for decades, for that exact reason, and then finally heard a few weeks ago and I thought it was ok:
The main thing they got right was leaving the guitar solo pretty much unchanged

haha man that's awful, the version of Faith. I really hated the Rohnan Keating version of Baby Can I Hold You Tonight because I think the Tracey Chapman version is a perfect song.
