I watched Promising Young Woman on the strength of your review beastmasterFor the most part it was very good but thought it was poorly concluded, I won’t go into the reasons why as I’m not too sure how spoilers work yet A good 7 out of 10 and still what I’d deem to be a “must watch” due to the subject matter and themes within

Stir Crazy
I don't think I've seen this in 30 years - not my favourite film with this pairing, but amusing and more than entertaining. There's some dodgy aspects with modern eyes, but nothing too egregious (in my eyes YMMV).

I'm sure every workplace has a slightly nuts (she was more than slightly) woman with delusions of grandeur about making a million on OnlyFans. If you engaged in anything more than a brief chat she was pushing it. Also, how big do you think I should get my tits? How big do men like these days? I used to dance in a club run by Russian gangsters Etc etc.

Aliens versus Predator. I have no idea why I do this to myself. Haven't seen it since it first came out and I wasn't impressed then. It certainly hasn't got any better.
Somehow manages to feel absolutely nothing like either an Alien or a Predator film. I'd completely forgotten this was a Paul W.S. Anderson film until the end credits, which actually explains a lot of the nonsense.
Never watching this turd again/100

The Dry. 6.5/10. A nice slow burn of an Aussie drama, with decent atmosphere and setting. Bana was decent, and I liked the nostalgic twinges throughout to tell the story. Decent length too.

Which is hands down the worst Alien film, but only debatably the worst predator film due to Shane gad damn Black.

Hah, it took me *three* tries to get through AvP2. I waited until it was available on Sky to watch it, but managed to fall asleep on two separate attempts. In the end I just watched the last bit to say I'd seen it all. Utterly abysmal film, that one. You can hardly see what's going on for half of it! (There's ZERO chance I'll ever watch that shit again)

Retreat
Horror thriller about a couple staying on a remote island who find someone washed ashore with news of a virus that is killing everyone on the mainland.
I was reminded of the film Dead Calm (or similar) where a stranger arrives and your never quite sure if what they say is the truth or can be trusted but the film never goes all in to make you believe in the story being told so fails to grip and plays out just as you expect.
5/10

Nemesis is by far the worst of all the Star Trek films. Seems to have been made by someone who's never even heard of Star trek and even the cast seem to forget how to play any of the characters. Fucking appalling.

The Stone Roses - Made of Stone - 7/10
Are documentaries allowed here?... Fuck it!
As a huge fan of Shane Meadows' work this sounded right up my street. It covers the band's reunion and doesn't really dwell on their history too much. It's well worth a watch if you're a fan of the band anyway.

Beckett - netflix
Bit like a modern version of The 39 Steps. Set in Greece but 'luckily' almost everyone speaks pretty good English.
75/100

Yeah I would have watched this, but since Ian Brown has turned in to an anti vax conspiracy nutter I'll pass. He's not far from Morrissey levels of twatiness now. Also Second Coming is their best album

Memento
Somehow I've never seen this before. I didn't know what it was about but it turns out to mirror one of the cases in a book of neurological disorders I'm reading right now. I wouldn't be surprised if the story was inspired by it.
What are the chances of that / 10

Second coming does have a few of their best songs on it Love spreads, breaking into heaven, ten story love song, tightrope, driving south, good times, Tears, daybreak I still listen to all the time. First album is just nostalgia for me now, it’s a classic but but i overplayed it so much when it came out, they are now just songs I sing pissed with my mates. Second coming still has substance... I know I’m in the minority though

Had the week off so been catching up on a few films.
Tenet.
Lost patience with it half way through. I guess Inception is the film to compare it to, both being espionage thrillers with unique twists/hooks, but honestly you have to wonder whether they are both from the same writer/director. It’s main issue is that it fails to successfully explain its central conceit and never gets a grip on it. Feels like the film is still in its first or second draft. Which is odd considering how precise Inception and pretty much all of his films are in working around its core idea. First time I’ve lost patience with one of his films.
1/5
Wolfwalkers
Great. It’s good to know that as Studio Ghibli kind of peters out another studio (Cartoon Saloon) is picking up the torch and delivering great film after great film. Breadwinner aside (which is amazing, one of the best films I’ve seen in recent years) they kind of sit in between SG and Disney. There films seems to have the emotional maturity of ghibli but lean toward Disney with its arcs and villains. It’s a good balance. A father and daughter move to Ireland; the father is sent to clear a forest full of wolves, the daughter keen to follow in his footsteps ends up saving a wild girl, and is introduced to the world of Wolves. Just fantastic all round.
5/5
Dark Waters
Very good. One of those really satisfying court/case films where the man takes on the big firm. Except this time the man is one of their own (well represent them). Gripping, suspenseful and well crafted. If you liked Spotlight and films like that you’d get on with this. Now reluctantly going to wash my teeth. 5/5
