Reminiscence - 5/10
Had some OK bits, but is mostly shit.
RE Stone Roses - for some reason they were never really popular among my circles growing up so they're more of a recent discovery for me. Got into some of Ian Brown's solo stuff when it came out, but never went back and checked out his previous work with the band. Had them on repeat recently to make up for lost time, and thankfully I can separate the artist from the art most of the time.

Synchronic. A film that spends a lot of time with the two main characters following their lives as paramedics, this extended character development means that the core sci-fi elements feel rushed and poorly explored. It doesn't introduce any particularly new or interesting idea's to the time travel genre. It's just OK. 5/10

Yesterday (The Beatles film)
Really enjoyed it. Nice feel good film with a fair few laughs and a few moments with dust in my eyes. Okay, so it's not going to win any awards or anything, but I had fun watching it and I'm humming Beatles songs to myself.
8/10 (bought it on Amazon)

The Untouchables
Astonishingly bad. I thought I had a soft spot for it as it's the first gangster movie I watched when I was very young. Turns out I had no taste when I was young and neither did my stepdad. Who knew?
James Gandofini should have been Al Capone but I'm glad he wasn't/10

King Rat (1965)
Second World War film about a group of soldiers in a Japanese POW camp in Singapore.
Excellent all round as the film portrays a brutal existence (The Great Escape this isn't) where rank and rule have gone and only survival at any cost remains. We see the desperate struggle of those doing what they can to stay alive contrasted by the rise of the titular character who profits from the suffering and misery of others.
Its quite something.
9.5/10

Not wot Danno said 😉
I really liked The Untouchables and love the music.
Mind you, I can't pretend to have a refined taste or anything.

Yeah I watched The Untouchables for the first time recently and I was amazed at how bad it was. I turned it off about halfway. Honestly reminded me of Bugsy Malone.

Yeah Yesterday is just wishy washy bullshit.
Maze runner deathcure. With my Daughter going through hunger games and divergent we recently moved onto maze runner. I was watching this one fully expecting the cast of divergent to run past each other, pat each other’s backs and carry on with each of their business.
Post watching all of them don’t think I can recall each individual film’s storyline.
Sorry Not really a review, more an observation

Untouchables was one of those rare properties where the Ocean licenced Spectrum game was an improvement on the film

The Green Knight - 8/10 Probably would've scored it higher if it wasn't for some poor performances from a few lesser characters and some exceptionally poor CGI. I mean the titular character was bad, but Jesus Christ that fox was just absolutely terrible!!! Totally took me out of the moment any time it was on screen.
Fucking good, though. Sean Harris should be in more stuff.

Yesterday was pretty shite, same with the Untouchables. Awful Connery winning an oscar sums up the oscars.

Star Trek 10: Nemesis - 2/10
Fuck me. Unironically, Into Darkness is high-brow drama compared to this load of shit.
Earlier today, during my Trek rewatch, I watched the TNG episode "The Defector". Funny how a good TNG episode blows all 4 movies away.
Recap:
The Motion Picture - 6/10 The Wrath of Khan - 9/10 The Search for Spock - 7/10 The Voyage Home - 9/10 The Final Frontier - 6/10 The Undiscovered Country - 9/10 Generations - 4/10 First Contact - 7/10 Insurrection - 5/10 Nemesis - 2/10 Star Trek (2009) - 5/10 Into Darkness - 4/10 Beyond - 4/10
Not a great movie series tbh. There are a few really good ones, but most of it is tosh.

Just to say you’re all fucking mental, Untouchables is mint.

Yeah, I'm unsure why The Untouchables is shit now. Costner is Costner, but the setpieces (which are what you watch a De Palma film for) are as good as any he's done.
The raid on horseback with the Mounties, the set-up for Malone's death, the Odessa Steps shoot-out at the station (which is still fucking magnificent) etc etc. It's all still great. Mamet's dialogue is mostly great. Yeah, it has some cheese, but hey. Plus, Billy fuckin Drago. Hey, nice house!
I'd give it a solid 8 enthusiasms out of 10.

I also recall having a soft spot for the Untouchables (eye rolls aside at the number of bullets it takes to put a man down). I now don't want to watch it again.

Rust Creek
As soon as I stuck it on I thought ‘why do I do this to myself?’ Another scrawny girl gets approached by a couple of burly blokes but manages to successfully fight them off and survive in the wilderness for a couple of days with a stab wound to the leg and with absolutely no provisions or appropriate clothing
Netflix is famed for this type of turgid shite
20/100

In my defence (members of the EG jury), I've been going through a lot of stress lately with work and life, so this was the right film for me at the time. I wanted something that was feel good and although I know the film itself wasn't wonderful, it hit all the right spots that needed hitting for me. The American manager was not very good though and I'm not an Ed Sheeran fan at all so couldn't have even told you if that was him or not. Anyway... /slinks away in shame

Other feel good films that are considerably better:
The Way Way Back The Florida Project (has some bleak elements but is proper good) Begin Again (bit twee but still worth a watch imo) Sing Street The Peanut butter falcon Hunt for the Wilderpeople.
(It is always a battle in my house to find these sorts of films, as they are largely what my wife wants to watch a lot for similar reasons).

Ghibli movies are also pretty great for feeling generally happy about the world.
(aside from Grave of the Fireflies lol)
(maybe Princess Mononoke too)

Thanks Doug's, I'll take a look. As I get older I'm liking the sorts of films that younger me would be horrified by. Even romcoms are on my list now. I think it's probably the start of dementia.
I think I'll go and watch Boss Level and get back done testosterone.

The peanut butter falcon was on tv not long ago (last week possibly?) and may be on catch up. Might have been on the bbc, but afraid i can't remember.
It's well worth a watch.

GigaChad Sigma. They pulled it from a UK release indefinitely as far as I know, so the only way at the moment is to sail the seven seas or use a VPN and the A24 app.
