There's a quick way to farm star fragments at that stage - go to the Krat City Hall Stargazer, turn around, go through a room with two blade-wielding guards (fight or run past, but it's quick and easy just to beat them and practise your block or parry). Run out and turn left immediately - you'll see a big dude pounding the floor at the end of the alley. Beat him - he's tougher but again good practice and there's no real concern about hoarding health or your legion arm (the electric one is best here). He drops a star fragment every time - at least he has for me about 30 times. He sometimes drops other goodies too. Run back to the stargazer and repeat.
Takes about 3 or 4 minutes, is quite soothing - well it was for me when I took an hour-long break from Fuoco - and will net you a reasonable amount of Ergo to boot.

Reached Archbishop today and yeh my heart sunk seeing there's a second phase. Fire def the way to go, the game kind of implies you should be using fire in that level. But I have an upgraded rapier using the grindstone with fire. I have flamberge but using the cannon to just get some extra damage. I'm confident I can do it but yeah, it's tough!

It is tough. I just can't parry him well enough to be close in and attack when I get the chance, and blocking just accumulates too much damage. It feels like a bit of luck is needed, especially re: the camera angles Frog mentioned earlier. But with decent fire damage on the weapon, a summon, the flamberge, thermite, I feel like I should be beating him. And yet I'm not! Have got frustratingly close though.
Annoyingly, I may not have a chance to play for a few days unless I get up early or something...

Might be best to have a break anyway, it can help refocus you

Archbishop is taken out. Took many many attempts, the 2nd phase I just had to do by not focusing on the snake head part cause fuck that and at least the big thing in the back was familiar. Got lucky at the end, got a guard parry with my rapier towards the end which knocken him down for free hits, then he did his tongue attack which is the easiest parry of all. Now I can go to bed content.

Well done both, I had another frustrating hour with Fucko, got very close but still not got him down.
I really want to play more of this game, so will persevere, but I'm not enjoying this boss at all.

Had another 20 goes at archbishop this morning but I've run out of star crystals now and I'm not going to farm just to try again. There is just too much bullshit in the fight for me. I will keep an eye on the thread though as I'm interested to see how far you all get

The archbishop (if that's next after Fuoco)

I think he is the next proper boss, there are a few mini bosses before him of which one was a bit of a pain but nothing that should block you.

Got lucky with Fuoco and beat him on my second go - the summon was a great help to get to the 2nd phase, then I jammily avoided his AOE attack, somehow built up his stagger, then had one of those tense moments where you're about to unleash your heavy just as the enemy is winding up... phew TBH I'm having more trouble with that 2nd shovel lad down the ladder - he's smashed me up about 10 times already...

I’ve just got to the Archbishop, so is it basically 2 boss fights in a row, when you die you have to do them both again? If so I can see I’d be giving up, I’m old and reactions are too slow to parry consistently and don’t have the time to rinse and repeat.
I’m never bothered by beating the bosses, not done a boss without a spectre yet either. Every Soulbourne has been the same for me, love it and get so far and then have to give up. Really enjoyed Sekiro but only got to the Great Shinobi Owl but gave as I couldn’t get past the second phase.

Unfortunately, yes - you have to do both stages successfully. An absolute pet hate of mine. One boss fight is more than enough.

I really didn't think it would be possible to get to Archbishops 2nd phase with enough heals but fighting it again and again does show some easy tells to parry. Otherwise you can get close and still dodge a lot. Its definitely possible, just gotta be patient.

..is this a bad time to say that DadFE doused Fuoco's flames on like the third try? 😅

Do you ever get to redistribute stats? I wasn’t really paying attention and thought stamina was HP and levelled it up to 18 almost immediately. I’ve just unlocked the merchant who sells you the electric cattle prod.
I can run away from things very fast but if they catch me, I’m dead.

Yeah in chapter 7 I think, right near the end. You will need that stat though so I wouldn't worry too much.

Ah, cool. I also can’t hit very hard. It’s taking me 10 minutes to peck away at one of those one-off champion type enemies.

Might be worth farming a tiny bit to get your chosen combat stat up. Which of the 3 are you focusing on?

I chose the rapier from the off, so have just been doing that R2, hop back move. Technique, I think. My stats are now something like 10 hp, 18 stamina, 12 technique. I'm just snatching 10 minutes here and there on it because the xbox is basically just the minecraft machine, so I havent had a decent run at it yet.
Also, lets take a minute to appreciate being able to press start and highlight any stat in the menu and have it tell us what it actually fucking does in Nioh...

So far I've found tanking by pouring in to little more than Vigour and Motivity to be a viable strategy. I just wade in swinging with that electric boogaloo and see who's left standing at the end.

The handle from the police baton is amazing for strength builds trowel. It's ability makes you hit really hard as well. Well worth sticking whatever blade you want to use into it.

That's good news - apart from decreasing the Star Fragments drop rate. The fact the Archbishop has been nerfed (well, health reduced) means I might have a go at him again later.

He just needs a slightly bigger pause between his combos I think as the attack window is tiny and his hyper armour means you get constantly punished.

Im not that far in and they have patched stuff even I noticed, so I really dont know how it made it through testing.
Namely champion field monsters had way too much health which meant fighting them was just boring and them being able to tank and hit you out of a fully charged special meant it was basically useless.
Next on the list is being able to level at bonfires. You dont have to ape bloodborne *that* much to just to force us to sit through two extra loading screens for no reason.
