Playing Atlas fallen (by deck 13) and its the most mid game you can find. There is nothing really bad like Gollum game or anything like that. it feels like an AI made a game by taking every common game design trope you think of. The side quests are just the standard go here and kill this/and collect that. Feels like the devs shat them out like most devs do with games.
The game feels like bits darksiders 1 and 2, bits of kingdoms of amalur with a bit of monster hunter where you can target bit of the monster, it would be better if you chopped off the leg it would have trouble moving but the devs didn't bother.
I do think some studios are stuck in cycle of the same old game design and refuse to evolve the forumula for game design
I think a lot of developers think they have an idea for a game, when in reality they have an idea of a skin for an existing game template.

Ulythium Having played through the Fate/Samurai Remnant demo now (it's unfortunately pretty short, presumably to not show too much of the story, but it does offer a good sample of the gameplay mechanics) it definitely left a good impression! The story (what little is presented) does seem to tie into the greater mythos in the background (there's a reference to the Clock Tower, an association present in many other entries, even in the demo's ending trailer, and the Waxing Moon Ritual shares at least a few details with your typical Holy Grail War), but most likely will still be understandable and enjoyable even if you don't know everything that's going on. For characters, if you're familiar with the series you'll probably recognise a few familiar faces, but there's also all-new characters to see. The graphics are crisp and flashy as a Warriors game typically is, and the music is great (although the Fate series is known for pretty awesome soundtracks, so not much of a surprise there ). It also doesn't seem to just shuttle you from mission to mission, there's some wandering around hub areas, picking up quests and talking to people too, like a more traditional RPG

But of course you're not reading this for all that blah blah blah, you're mostly here for the combat, so here we go: to start, there's plenty of the typical Warriors combat trappings here. Hordes of mooks, your basic attack combos are light attack strings with Square that you can finish with Triangle, with different finishers depending on when you go for one (your MC has a basic six-Sq combo, then you can go Sq-Tr, Sq-Sq-Tr and so on up to five-Sq then Tr for different finishers), you charge up special attack gauges by attacking enemies, elite enemies have big attacks that leave them open, I believe you can switch between at least two characters on the fly (that wasn't explicitly shown in the demo though), the works.
However, there's also some new mechanics. The biggest one is a Ghost of Tsushima-esque stance system, with different stances having different combos and bonuses, and being more suited to different enemies. The two the demo showed are the Water stance (wide, sweeping attacks, good for mook swarms) and the Earth stance (strong, focused strikes and a shield gauge that lets you absorb some attacks without taking damage or knockback, replenishing itself eventually when depleted, suitable for duels against elites), there's probably more in the full game. There's also incentives to switch between stances regardless of what you're facing: staying in one stance for long enough then switching gives you a buff in the new stance, so you're encouraged to swap often rather than just sticking to whatever is theoretically "best".
Beyond that, you also have a set of spells you can use to supplement your offence and break elite enemies' guard (recklessly attacking a guarding enemy will only earn you a counter, so it's spell time then). And there's a sort-of parry system a la Nioh, in that sometimes enemies will glow red and prepare a strong attack, which is your cue to hit them with a strong attack or combo finisher (Triangle) of your own to interrupt and stun them.
It could get a bit chaotic if you're not used to it, but it flows together pretty well IMO (and I played on the third difficulty level, so there's some room to make it easier)

As with most Team Ninja games, playing is the best way to learn. The demo is pretty short as I said (only about an hour) and explains all of the above mechanics, progress does carry over and there's probably more mechanics to come in the full game anyway, so I'd say give it a go and see how you get on! As for myself, already liking the Warriors games and having some familiarity with the Fate series makes it a no-brainer (although I will say it is rather pricey, especially adding the season pass...)

Figure this might be a good place for this… Anyone have any recommendations for video game versions of board games? Specifically something that me and my wife can play together? There seems to be a ton of adaptations but they rarely seem to get much coverage so hard to tell which ones work/don’t work. www.youtube.com/live/cFSfZEJqlDQ

Thanks, JuniorFE! I might download the demo in order to give myself something to play, but I'm not in the market for another RPG right now - between Persona 3 Reload, Dragon's Dogma II, and Rise of the Ronin, Q1 is already pretty stacked with games of that ilk.

Never played this when it released on PS4 and I'm currently played HZD on the PC. I should be done in time to walk straight into the sequel

I’ve got to be honest I really like trips into CeX. I’d be a little bit sad if it ever closed.

It's high but live service there is also defined as any game with a regular update cadence. Games like Cult of the Lamb get regular updates, but I'm not sure I'd really class it as a live service game.
Feels like updates and post launch content are almost part and parcel with game launches now anyway. Doesn't really suit the way I play games though so I'm not a fan.

Anyone given Square’s Aldi Splatoon a go yet?
Its free on PS+ this month.
The character design is so generic they’re practically invisible.

Didn't want to bump the ER thread.
As far as I know/can find, FROM haven't announced that they're working on anything other than Shadow of the Erdtree?
Seems a little odd as they've usually had 2 or three things cooking at once, at least since DS2, there's no reports of staff being laid off after the release of Sekiro or Armoured Core and Bloodborne 2 feels unlikely. Maybe it's just that there's AC DLC coming and Shadow is absolutely enormous (which stands to reason as we're almost at the 2 year anniversary)
Are there any rumours out there that I've missed?

Didn’t a load of higher-up programmers, writers and artists in the team that worked on Bloodborne leave for Nintendo’s Monolift Soft? I’m sure the company is doing fine staff-wise, but they’re known to pay poorly, force overtime, offer no maternity for women, etc…
There’s a chance they don’t need to lay off anyone as they have a high turn over of staff generally.
I imagine the success of Elden Ring has meant they can increase the budget and scope of their games a lot more now, so everything they are working on is just getting quietly pushed back at the moment.

Know they are working on an ER mobile game. And rumours continue that something Bloodbourne is coming.

In Starcraft 2 news, the first big competition this year just started in Katowice Poland. 4 days, 24 of the best players. ESL_SC2 on Twitch. Top.

Anyone given Square’s Aldi Splatoon a go yet? Its free on PS+ this month. The character design is so generic they’re practically invisible. Had a brief go - just a handful of online games and played through the three-mission “story” for the first character (a pink haired pop star). The setting, characters and what passes for a narrative are… pretty poor. Honestly, first impressions couldn’t be much worse - I would definitely say I “persevered” through the tutorial rather than enjoyed it. The hub world feels half empty, cut scenes have minimal animation and there are typos in the subtitles for crying out loud. It all feels a bit half-baked. Single player missions may get better as you progress but the early ones are literally just arena-based wave attacks. Shoot all the enemies before they destroy some environmental… thing. Basically I can’t honestly recommend this as a solo experience. Online games are more fun just by reason of the chaos other players bring, but in a 2-round match, I already experienced players quitting after losing the first round. Needless to say the cosmetic unlocks are really just different colour skins for the existing cast. Meh. All of which is a shame actually, because the core play of shooting foam, surfing on your colour (basically fast traversal) and special and super moves unique to each character is enjoyable enough. It’s just not enough to sustain a whole game. I guess I might load it up once or twice more, but yeah… I suspect this being free on Plus was a last roll of the dice. I imagine it’ll be pretty dead within a month or two.

I'm cautiously interested in Stellar Blade, although it remains to be seen whether the devs took anything from Nier aside from 'scantily-clad female protagonist + melee combat = victory'.
Even if it turns out to be great, I doubt I'll get to it at launch - releasing the game a month after the double whammy of Dragon's Dogma II and Rise of the Ronin is a weird call by Sony.

Yeah, the Nier vibes from it made it jump to being one of my most anticipated games of the year. I'll still wait for reviews of course, and will probably take a trip to Turkey if it's good.
There's a Dev interview up on push square that sold it a bit more. Just something small like the 30 different costumes all being in the game feels like a rare case of publishers not taking the piss with micro transactions.
