My only problem with John Wick is that 'secret society of assassins' was cool originally but its subsequently devolved into 'if literally everyone is an assassin, nobody is an assassin'. Nah, I loved that. It's one of the best sequences of the second film, where you see the call go out and all these random bystanders are answering their phones. It's a very dumb premise, but to me it's dumb in a very fun way. Honestly I love all the weirdness of the assassin society. All the old-timey equipment, the hotel where assassins go to hang out between jobs, the way that everyone is a complete stickler for their ridiculous rules. It's glorious. |

yeah I've never really got what the fuss was about. Thought the idea was done and dusted in the first one (and even that dragged a bit). I've seen 2&3 but both were quite tedious. You can have the most well choreographed shootout ever but when you've got three films (now four) brimming with them they lose their impact and appeal.

I watched them all again recently and love all of them for their madness but I think I like them in reverse order. Looking forward to 4, really should end it here though. |

I'd agree that the premise of the first one, and this hinted at secret society, was a bit wasted. They could've gone bigger in 2 and 3 by just sending him on a mission to a new place, with a twist on the same thing. But no. It just escalated. The Continental could've been like James Bond going back to Moneypenny, M, and Q for a briefing but, again, no. It just escalated. I still fucking love these films though. Stoked for the 4th.  |

I think the first one is the best one, for sure. Its tighter and the mystique around the setting hasnt been broken yet. But I am also not complaining that they went absolutely balls out for the sequels.  |

I watched it again recently, with a view to watching the 2nd and 3rd after, but found the first one such a slog the second time around that I never bothered with the others. I just did a watch through (not sure I actually had seen 3).
1 is still great. 2 is a bit silly in a bad way, and some of the fight choreography jumped out as quite weak, on a second watch. I just got a bit bored.
3 goes a bit apeshit, and silly in a good way. Halle Berry and the attack dog tag teaming was sweet.
4 looks to be more like 3 than 2.

2 is the weakest and they learned their lesson with 3. It's fucking daft but in a way that you go with. Opening with a horse chase was wise. As was the book fight.
