BBC reporting that Biden had given Ukraine the green light for strikes on Russian soil with US missiles.

With the added benefit of forcing Trump to explicitly withdraw authorisation.

I imagine Ukraine will be using their long range stocks as quickly as possible so a ban being implemented again won't really matter.

It's a shame it's been reported, I'd have preferred Ukraine to have just used them and them and they all just deny knowledge.

starmer going down in my estimation every second he refuses to follow suit
the escalation argument is bollocks, putin's already deployed fucking nerve agents on the streets of the UK, murdering a british citizen and endangering thousands more

The UK has been fine with it for months, the US was blocking it.

The UK has been fine with it for months, the US was blocking it. It's also pretty clear this is more about politics than helping Ukraine per se. Changing policy now puts the pressure on Trump to keep it come Jan. Not thay I think he'll care much if he's seen to be giving in to Putin mind you.

If Trump is all about saving money, while obviously having a thing for Putin, then it won’t last unless he gets something in return from Ukraine.
If there’s nothing in it for him then they won’t be getting any support.

Zelensky is a pretty shrewd guy and he's dealt with Trump before in 2019 when Trump tried to get him to investigate Biden and his son. He knows exactly what he's dealing with.

I see the inevitable has already happend and even before Trump has got into office his own Wormtongue, Elon, is reportedly having massive arguments with Trump's team about who he wants as picks for the cabinet.

Honestly this is probably the best case scenario at this point. They get bogged down in infighting too much to pass the really heinous shit (and the Dems do their best to block what they can as well), they lose a chamber of Congress in the midterms (ideally both) and can't do much for the remainder of the term and then 2028 finally (fingers crossed) sees Trump fully unable to run, the others can't quite muster what's needed to win again and sanity returns for a time.
Even the Tangerine Latrine kicking it wouldn't necessarily be a better outcome, because, while he may not have the cult, Vance is both at least marginally more competent and much more willing to do as he's told. Not to mention that if he replaces Trump after the midterms he's still eligible to run for two terms, whereas Donnie is done after this (barring shenanigans on the level of Constitutional changes, but if it gets to that the situation is probably truly, irreversibly fucked)

I imagine Ukraine will be using their long range stocks as quickly as possible so a ban being implemented again won't really matter. If Biden wanted to actually be useful and give a last fuck you to Putin he'd sell a ton of stockpiled equipment and ammo for pennies to NATO allies like the UK, France and Germany, with no strings attached. Don't need a special budget or approval from congress for that, and it would be a fait accompli that Trump can't reverse.
Don't expect it to happen though, since Biden can't seem to do anything without prevaricating for 6 months first.

Forget the bunkers. If the insane drama on this stage terrestrial does come down to mutually assured nuclear destruction just head for the hills.
You will still die horribly when the bombs drop but the view will be better.

Now the US missiles have launched are we at the "building bunkers in the garden stage yet?" I live in Sweden and we've recently received a pamphlet about preparation in the home/community in the event of a crisis or war. I don't think it will get that bad but I do think that some simple/cheap measures along the lines of some food, ways to purify water, charge a phone, radio, and some extra blankets isn't such a silly idea. My home was actually built at the end of the war and has a protective room in the basement with extra thick walls and ceiling and thick metal cover for the window!

I think if there's one thing we learnt from Covid it's just how fast the world will tun to shit if anything kicks off. A few crates of beans or water will last a few days or so and there won't be anything to replenish them anyway, the phone masts will be switched off to minimise public disorder so that won't be an issue either.

lordofthedunce Having stuff to manage a few days on your own is just a good idea - people tend to forget the "crisis" bit and only focus on the "war". And yeah, pretty sure all new buildings here had to have shelters or a basement that could quickly be turned into one until pretty recently. We were weirdly hardcore about civil defence until the mid 90s.
