I just downloaded the update and launched it but it's still not live yet. Just sits on a holding screen from the end of the live event.
(UK here, I assume it's unlocking region by region)

I let the kids wake up at 5:30 this morning, and they seemed to be able to connect and play it ok. They said it wasn't as good as they expected, but they're excited about Spiderman and apparently Spider Gwen in the next season. I'm very sleepy as I failed to get back to sleep after they woke up. Grrr. No one seems to be playing it yet, you sure they weren't mistaken/winding you up? The map's been revealed now, looks quite snowy. And apparently vaults are back - my eldest is very excited about that, seems like a return to her favourite season (the one we all started on, ch2 season 2) |

Yeah I've played a few matches now, and Kid 1 is up to lv7 already. It's nice having a whole new map to uncover, and having *all* new weapons is an unexpected surprise. Haven't got a crown Victory Royale yet but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.
Ultimately it's still the same game, they were never going to mess with the formula that much, but there's enough new stuff to keep it interesting. And both my kids are back into it for now, having abandoned it last season, so that bodes well for a few fun evenings of squads

Yeah enjoying the changes. The Mk7 is great at medium range but useless up close. SMG is good, snipers too. Knee sliding is fun, as are the quadbikes. Edit: Actually snipers are a pain in the hoop  They just create endless standoffs, plus the damage isn't great. |

I like that they've introduced a fireplace screensaver for xmas. Last year I stuck a 4 hr looping fireplace video with xmas music on the tv, much to the kids dismay.
How does the present claiming work? Do you have to log in every day and claim one a day?

I logged in on day 2 and claimed 2 presents, so it seems daily logins aren't necessary. Got a very nice glider that ties into a soon to be released film.

I'm not saying she isn't a natural, but also the early matches for new starters are allegedly full of bots to make them easier and avoid putting people off. I didn't get a victory on my very first one though, it took 3 or 4 goes, so good for her!

I think both the Assault Rifle and Stinger might get a nerf. The Stinger is way too OP compared to the old SMG.

My son (8) has been playing Fortnite for 2 years and either plays with me or his school friends, initially on Switch but later on PS4.
Just after Christmas he got Fall Guys on PS4 and it asked for his date of birth while installing/registering. I naively put his correct date of birth in. This somehow got registered with Epic and he can now no longer use voice chat in Fortnite (as under 10's are only allowed 'Friends Only' chat and Fortnite doesn't have this option, even though he's only ever playing with friends anyway).
Ffs. Will see if I can convince Epic that I put his DOB in incorrectly or something, or will just have to set up a new epic account for him.

Seems one option is to tell Epic that it's your account and he used it and accidentally input his DOB when prompted. Also seems like it'll take a lot of persuading to get them to change it.
Supposedly you're not supposed to let kids use your account and are supposed to set them up with their own account. Which is actually what I did, but I thought I'd done it wrong because it seems a dumb way to do it. *shrug*
Nintendo has child accounts, but epic doesn't, and they're now linked in a hugely confusing and byzantine way.
It seems dumb for them to implement this when *by far their biggest game - which is used by millions of kids to communicate* doesn't have the feature implemented yet.

He had a Nintendo child account first and man that was an absolute ball ache getting it linked to his new Epic account when he switched to playing it on PS4 (though to be fair Epic were great on Live chat and patiently talked me through the whole process). Is this new? I thought Fortnite allowed the parents to make the decisions and it was the consoles that added the extra bullshit?
To be honest setting up Fortnite for my first son at the time was a big bag o dicks.
I used his correct dob on PS4 which auto locks him out of it. Seems sony have a second layer to their policy governing online and it completely ignores any parental setting I applied.
We got around this by him playing on switch and eventually he got an Xbox, both of which allow the parents to make the decision and setup rules accordingly.
With my youngest who is now getting into it I 'fudged' his dob on his PS4 account to get around this and he plays Fortnite just fine now. I get a "1 time only" option to correct his dob when he's actually 12.

Anyone tried this gyro aiming/flick stick they've added in then?
The buzz online seems to suggest it's finally an answer to KB&M on consoles and that it's going to be the meta for this and any other game that implements it in future.
I've just tried it but I felt like one of those people who has been struck by lightning and has to learn to walk and talk again. Think I'm too long in the tooth to completely revamp my muscle memory if it does become the norm in shooters.
