I'm also enjoying Fortnite No Build. Definitely would be nice to get a squad going. I play solo at the moment as either people on my list don't play it or won't play it due to its rep. I've been playing about 3 months and really pleasantly surprised by how fun it is.
Also, as said if No Build got dropped, it would get deleted instantly.

I can’t get over how much Fortnite seems to have gone “viral” (or at least been rediscovered) since the Dragonball stuff. Every videogame podcast is covering it, Giant Bomb have multiple videos up, Dan Rykert wants it to qualify for GOTY on Fire Escape Cast (justification being that the Zero Build mode was this year). I’ve been playing it most weeks since Chapter 2 season 2, and I’d never have thought it was possible for something so big and successful already to blow up again like this.
I’m also a bit surprised how people seem to think ridiculous tie-ins are a recent thing (“haha look at Goku doing the Gritty etc etc). That’s been a thing for quite a while too - as my Xenomorph with angel wings doing Never Gonna Give You Up will attest.

Probably being paid to promote it in order to drive up ticket sales for the Dragonball Super Hero movie.

I might be hopelessly naïve but I don’t think either the Bombcast or Fire Escape would take secret PR money to promote something

It all looks so small from up here.

It's not small. It's just a long way away.
PS/ The dragonball 'glider' dragon is pretty cool.

Heh, people are saying the new chrome splash mechanic in Fortnite is lifted straight from Splatoon. Judging by the opening cinematic it sure does look the same as when you travel through the ink

It does look somewhat splatoon inspired, but the mechanic is more like a morphball sprint. I finally have enough v-bucks to get a battle pass, but this season's one if distinctly underwhelming. The only thing I want is the Spider Gwen skins, and those aren't till the last page or the bonus awards. And I doubt I'll put enough time in to get to page 10. Spider Gwen looks tiny.. but that's gonna be a bit bad for game balance if she has a Wraith-size mini hitbox.

Yeah I agree that the skins are a bit crap this season. I quite like the other stuff in the pass and I have Vbux to burn so I’ll probably get it anyway, but I’m really not into all the cell-shaded anime looking skins they keep doing lately.
I assumed all hitboxes must be identical for balance, is that not how it works? Otherwise yeah, Peely is at a huge disadvantage compared to Gwen or the other smaller ones.

The boosted XP from having long periods away makes it a lot easier.

I tend to just dip into each season for a few matches with the kids here and there... so I've been picking up 100-200 v-bucks each season, and I'm finally up to 900. So if I get to page 3 I can get enough for a battle pass... but I'm not sure I can be bothered to put in the time or energy to get to page 10.
Ah... I probably will. Free stuff.

Yeah I'm in, been riding the battle pass for 3 seasons now, off my initial purchase.
I wondered if the hit boxes were smaller on different skins too, so my friend and I did a test of the ones we had, basically they all the same size, and bigger characters don't get hit outside , even if it looks like they can.
Anecdotal ofc, but it would make sense to keep things balanced and not get everyone playing an optimal build. Outfits are supposed to be purely cosmetic after all.

They’re not stingy with the exp, for the last couple of seasons my daughter dropped off at the start and then came back towards the end and finished the pass easily. By the time you’ve got all the weekly challenges and “story” missions saved up, it seems like you can go up 10 levels in a single match without even trying.
I bought the battle pass when I started playing with the kids in Chapter 2 Season 2, and I’ve never had to pay money for it since. That was a great season with the Grotto and Ghost vs. Shadow stuff (although obviously everyone prefers the one they started on)

Zero Build is what's finally gotten me hooked too.
I'm hoping they walk back this new sniper buff, though. If I wanted to put up with one-hit kills I'd reinstall PUBG.

Had a look at the current battle pass, and there is literally nothing in there that interests me.

Finally managed to start making a dent in the BP tonight after having covid for the past week. Bit rusty in my usual duo, but we did OK every game.
I think I overdid it a bit as feeling a bit rubbish again, but it will be all worth it if I eventually get gwen.
I keep forgetting to do the new questline though!

I did think snipers seemed particularly lethal tonight. I joked about it with my friend, but just thought I was being particularly rubbish.

Snipers have definitely been buffed, but only to the extent that a headshot with a heavy does 200 damage rather than 180. It was annoying getting a perfect shot but still not getting the elimination because they had full health and shields, so I’m ok with it.

Yep, the new bolt-action rifle does 250* damage on a headshot, exactly enough to kill you even at full shields. Not a fan!
If I get a kill with it it's different, though, because I'm nice.
Edit: *in Zero Build

That's interesting though, my friend will be pleased as he is very sniper focused.
Not me though, I'm more a 'sneak up behind you and shoot you in the back with a shotgun' kinda guy.

Sniper headshots should always be instakill, even in a game like Fortnite that’s not exactly going for realism. But I’m probably biased because I’m decent with snipers and not so great close-up, especially in build mode.
I’m still on zero build but I was wondering if the new chrome thing where you can phase through walls would make a difference to the “meta” in competitive build mode games. No point editing a window into your fancy brick tower if they can just glide right through the wall anyway.

I'm shit as a sniper (and most other things tbh) but I did miraculously get 3 instakill sniper headshots last night while bravely hiding in a bush.
The problem is, in a game like fortnite, it's not very fun for the killed player. Run around for 20 minutes, get some good loot, complete 4/5th of that quest. Oh. I'm dead and I don't even know what happened.

That happens to me just as often from close range when I round a corner- 20 minutes of looting and 10 seconds of action is basically the Battle Royale mission statement

Might seem like splitting hairs, but I think there's a qualitative difference between the two. Getting popped by someone who ambushes you is a bummer, but there's the sense that it's at least somewhat fair: you should've have better situational awareness, you could've gotten a shot off yourself, whatever. With the new sniper your game will literally just end because someone a mile away caught you standing still for a half-second. Bill's right: it's not fun! And this game is otherwise very, very fun!

You can still mitigate it somewhat, if you use cover, and follow the contours of the land etc.
If you just run around in the open, or stand there sorting loot, I think it's fair game if you get popped.

And don’t forget to keep crouching and standing when taking meds or drinking shield potion. I thought it looked mad when I first saw someone doing that after they’d iced me, but it does make headshots harder.

Yeah movement is key. Always moving or in shelter.
It's wonderful when you snipe a sniper though, get to line up the shot.
I love the new long barrel shotgun but got to remember its not fast enough reload for close battles, been my downfall a couple of times.
