Yeah voice comms work across too. I think they just search your Fortnite name but platform specific names also work.
My son plays on series s and my other son flits between swith and PS4 and I'm on PS4 and pc and we've all been able to play and chat.
there are extra hurdles when it's child accounts and voice comms but shouldn't be an issue with you

Do you mean that you can't play with a microphone or the TV turned up, so you only play using visual cues? I've turned on the accessibility settings to show gunfire and icons like movement on the screen. Very helpful. I always encourage people to use voice comms, mainly by saying there's no judgement. SOme people can't speak because of family commitments, but if others are wary of how they sound, their skill level or familiarity with English, I try to reassure them that's safe for them to speak. |

I only started playing it the last few weeks with zero build and actually bought the battle pass, it's a good laugh and only groups I been in is with my mates 2 kids, I say kids but they both got jobs now.

If someone was saying "it's ok, it's safe to talk friend" down the microphone on fortnite I can't think of anything in the world that would make me talk to that person.

However, I never call them friend . That would be weird. I think it was Pratchett that said anyone who calls you friend in a conversation, isn't. I play a game called Hell Let Loose where communication is essential and has players from all sorts of countries. It's almost impossible play meaningfully without communication, so I got into the habit of speaking and trying to assuage anyone else's concerns about speaking too. It doesn't work all the time, but often enough to be worth it. |

Yeah all I mean is I’ve got a 7 year old and a 12 year old who could be within earshot while I’m playing, so I’d never have voice chat enabled with randos. And I can’t exactly use headphones while they’re around either - that would just seem rude.
If I got into a proper regular group I knew, and played after the kids are in bed, I’d consider getting the headset out - but Fortnite doesn’t really need it even in Squads

I can't remember what I set mine to. It might be open because I'm open to inviting strangers to parties, just in case they turn out to be cool people to play with. Doesn't happen very often mind, also because when I'm in a party with other people the consensus is to avoid randoms.

EDIT - should say that I only play No Build mode. Shooting people is challening enough without having to make structures and whatnot.

I'm playing a lot less this season, I'm not in the UK, and I only really use voice comms with my kids or IRL friends, so I'm not at all what you're looking for.
But I've sent friend requests to all the usernames that have popped up so far. I'm sys_temA
I also really only play zero-build.

Zero build only for this old fart too ... I can barely manage a wall or maybe a single ramp but that's my limit.
My sons can lob up a 3 storey tower in the same time it took me to open the build menu and work out what button is what

Yeah zero build is where it's at. I watched some normal games, and it seems to be dependent on how fast you can throw up walls and get the occasional shot off on between. That's not fun.

I played for a while before Zero Build was a thing. I could throw up a defensive wall or ramp but that’s all I was capable of. It was fine- if they took Zero Build away, I’d keep playing. But yeah Zero Build is much better for not having to think about that side of it.
I was on last night for an hour or so but didn’t see any friends from here. Obviously tonight’s out, unless everyone else decides to pack it in before midnight, but I’ll probably be on again tomorrow night if anyone’s up for a match or two

If they took away Zero Build I think I would stop playing. I am too old for the reflexes needed to throw up a tower. On the other hand, I will happily shoot someone with a DMR from a fair distance when they can't build a wall in the way constantly.

For what it’s worth, I played a match with my daughter this afternoon, building on because she insists, and I sniped someone with a DMR faster than they could put up walls. It has a RoF that eats through single wood walls no problem. |

Level 57 or something now and I've earned all my fakebux back for another season.
Still enjoying it though and actually playing on the laptop with a PS4 pad runs better than the PS4 version, it used to be loads worse.
Holding my own as well considering I'm queueing on pc so I wonder if I'm being queued with others on pads or they're just shit.

I was going to duck out of the battle pass this season, but then I got enough levels for Doom Guy and figured I’d go all in. Now I’ve got my sights set on the only other skin I like, which is the shiny black/goth version of tattoo lady. Quite a stretch as it’s something like level 130 but I’ll probably get there just in time.
I quite like the new augments. I always take the healing in bushes one, and the balloon one has been great for sniping fools from way up.

I'm still a bit meh on this season and haven't played that much at all, but due to the weird way that XP works in fortnite I've already unlocked all of the pass up to the anime skins. Last season I played almost every day and worked my ass off to get to the Gwen skin and the bonus skins. This season I've played like 5 days and I'm up to about level 50. *shrug* The slayer skin looks ok, but I have no interest in the anime skin or the dude in the dumb armor, so I've kinda lost the motivation to continue at the moment. Almost every match I've played this season has ended with me getting to about 6th place and then either getting killed by the really annoying hammer, or the really annoying kamehameha blast thing. Hate those things and have no interest in using them myself. Yay bikes though. PS/ It seems like the character designers in Fortnite have a thing for girls with lots of tattoos.  PPS/ They should do a proper Buffy collab |

Not played it for a few days, but last time I played it was hammer time at the end.
I haven't played that many matches though, so maybe that was a rarity. They don't seem to drop every single chest anymore.

That anime blast thing stopped dropping in zero build a couple of weeks back and hammers have become less frequent as well.
I like the firebow, it's great nailing somebody long distance with that thing.

They added hurdling back in and it's already led to me dying in a stupid way again. Might not be any salvaging that particular mechanic.
