Wow, quite a biggy, nothing of interest to me apart from maybe Tony Hawks. Wonder if Blizzard can become less of a shadow of their former selves now (almost definitely not).

Funnily enough I was thinking just last night to myself "what publishers r developers from the 80s are still around?" and I could only think of EA, and maybe Activision at a push may depending on how you define the merger they did with Blizzard.
Ah well. Bye!

Hopefully we get some proper back catalogue games to preserve their history.

Yeah, on paper it seems big and I guess it will be a huge move for getting the CoD dudebros to switch to MS.
This means pretty much nothing to me. The last Acti game I bought was THPS, and nothing else they have coming up interests me apart from Diablo 4.
Pretty much any other major publisher would've been more exciting for me.

Yeah, both EA and Activision are still huge but are almost never of any interest to me.

That must be a shit load of money basically for Call of Duty sales and WoW subs.
Bit of meh one unless I get WoW and StarCraft on Xbox.

So basically Microsoft is trying to be gaming's equivalent to City/PSG in football and Financial Fair Play then...

Yeah, it was 10x more than the Bethesda deal, which just seems mental for what they're getting. (well, for what I'M getting...)
I guess King and that Candy Crush nonsense adds to the worth for MS

Bethesda are mainly single player games and not many have addons/micro transactions. Act/Blizzard are the opposite and make billions more every year.

I’m really too old for this shit. Can’t say that I like it though. With the likes of cross play and exclusives appearing on Pc I thought we heading in a direction where we see more and more games available to more and more people. Instead we have one company buying two of the biggest publishers and I wouldn’t be surprised if they got there eye on more.

Is this how Kotick gets a golden handshake and sneaks off without ever facing justice for the abuse allegations?

We might actually get more back catalogue games now. So many good IPS have been left to rot.

Doesn't seem great all this insane consolidation Yeah it doesn't at all. MS are just taking the piss now. It's bigger than just pointless console wars when one company is just actively scooping up entire publishers like they're penny sweets. At this point MS are just outspending the competition, It's not going to lead to anything good. Don't really play Actvision games, I do care about Crash but I'm not sure Activision actually does anymore. Still very miffed that this is the direction things are going.

Can't complain about having such a massive library added to Game Pass.
Hopefully MS do something to clean up the mess that's been in the news about Acti the last few months (years?)

Depending on your view of content farms, this approach hasnt hurt disney and the fans seem quite happy that their output is pretty prolific now.

Edit - posts pushed this down a bit, but mostly in response to someone's suprise at this being 10x as much as the Bethesda deal.
I'm not sure how this can not be seen as huge win for Microsoft and a far more significant purchase than Bethesda. Bethesda are certainly big when it comes to the Elder Scrolls and Fallout, but those are games that come out once every 5+ years. Lots of other critically acclaimed things (Arkane) and some moderately large franchises (such Id's output).
This though gives you some of the world's biggest games. Call of Duty may be in decline, but it is still massive and is an annual release. Modern Warfare has sold about the same as Skyrim (around 30 mil), but you are getting that every year. We still have no idea when the next Elder Scrolls game will actually be out.
Then you have Blizzard, which puts out games that are humongous globally, not just in the West. Diablo 3 is another 30 mil seller and Overwatch apparently is at 50 million.
Not sure about how big King are in the mobile market now, but that is still an incredibly lucrative business to be in and Microsoft now have a big name there.
This being a much bigger payout than Bethesda is really not that surprising.
As others have said, not really that big of a deal for me personally. CoDs on Game Pass will be nice, as those are the kind of dip in and out of games that I would never want to spend more than £15 or so on, but never reach that price.

I'm of the same thinking as most of you, it's crazy and not the way I'd like to see MS assert their dominance. Fucking huge though.
This will open up the "will X be multiplatform?" questions again, but for something like CoD it's actually a harder thing to guess. It'd be a huge boon for MS to make it exclusive, but you'd be cutting out 10s of millions of players from Sony which would be nuts. I suspect they'll go to GP but keep being sold elsewhere because it's a crazy amount of sales of games, battlepasses and coins to just cut off.

Can Phil Spencer arrange for Bobby Kotick to be fired out of a cannon as soon as the ink on the contract is dry? Preferably a cannon aimed towards a live volcano, with Kotick being denied a parachute (golden or otherwise)?
