I'd be interested in a new Guitar Hero game with the old style 5 fret button controller, not the Guitar Hero Live controller that sucked.
Also I didn't know this, but Major League Gaming is a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard. MS could be also thinking of taking a bigger share of the eSports space.

I’m sure glad the days of cross-platforming is dying off and we’re going back to proper format wars. They were always a hoot.

Statement on the Bungie site is insistent they remain self published and creatively independent and future projects won't be PlayStation exclusive.
Although I never trust these statements, that could technically just mean they'll release on PC as well, not Xbox etc.
Hmmmmmmm, all very interesting, and odd.

Sony should buy Bungie and have them create a game called Planet Ring starring Overlord Captain. Called it.

This bit in the "shared vision" Q&A makes it sound like there's no PS exclusives in the foreseeable future. "Anywhere people play games" makes it sound like more than PS and maybe PC. At least Xbox as well. Would be interesting if they made something for Nintendo as well, be it the current Switch or their next console. Of course, plans can change, but in the meantime it sounds as if they're not doing exclusives. Big daddy Sony just makes more money.

I'm sure the "we'll continue to make multiplatform games" plans from Bungie will change if Microsoft decides to make COD Xbox only, for example.
Seems like a defensive acquisition from Sony to me. About time we had a good old console war

Kind of wish one of the two were willing to buy a Japanese studio though. I think MS has been trying but probably gets laughed out of the room every time, and current Sony doesn't seem to care about Japanese games at all, seeing how they closed every studio but Polyphony.

“Our current plans” really comes off as “let’s not fuck with the share prices right now”

That money for Bungie starts to make the Bethesda deal look like a real bargain!

And as a Nintendo fan primarily, its like nothing has changed. Hehe.
I do wonder if these two will snap up older companies as a way of securing retro libraries. At the end of the day they're only really buying IP. The talent behind these teams will all move on in time.

3.6 Billion for Destiny? Wow. They’d be lucky to get a new raid and two maps for that.

Reddit thread filled with "Killzone, but Bungie".
That wouldn't be bad.

I mean, to be fair, Guerrilla's Killzone games all played well. That wasn't really the issue, it was more that the stories and characters were kind of bland. Not sure how much Bungie developing one would help that. I said it in the other thread as a joke, but a revisit to their PS2-exclusive Ghost in the Shell clone, Oni, would be interesting.

Anyway, I would love to play that. I remember it as The Matrix meets Deus Ex, it surely isn't as awesome as I remember it (what is), but still.

Ahh maybe you did. I'm not a huge PC gamer, even less so back then. But it wasn't on Gamecube or Xbox, that I'm fairly certain of.

It was definitely on PC too, I remember having a copy at some point. Not sure where it ended up though.

Was listening to a podcast today and their thought was that these acquisitions aren't so much to keep games off other platforms but more defensive moves to protect their markets against companies like tencent and Apple should they become interested.
Certainly an angle I hadn't considered.

Certainly an angle I hadn't considered. And, if true, a pretty crucial one. Nothing good could come out of those two or, say, Amazon picking them up.

I think he may have named Amazon as well but I didn't want to list them in case I remembered incorrectly.

Yeah I had read that Microsoft aren't really competing with Sony they're safeguarding against those other players such as Amazon, Apple. I mean FYI Activision were considering selling to Facebook. Can you even fucking imagine the state of that combination?!

Facebook is the big tech corporation I hate the most, but VR CoD sounds kind of not terrible.
