Doesn't Tencent already own a part of Bungie?

Nintendo has tons of money, but a tighter wallet than Scrooge. They probably would never buy any developer bigger than NIS or something.
Still secretly hoping that someone will buy Sting... I don't like acquisitions, but I'd take that if it meant a proper new game.

Yeah. I could see them buying Platinum or something, but not Capcom, as an example.
But also, if they ever did buy a bigger publisher like Sega, they'd be the one out of the three that I wouldn't expect to even bother with the "we didn't buy them to keep their games off other platforms" spiel. You like Yakuza? Hope you don't mind PS3-level visuals for the next entries.

Screw Activision and Bungie, they bought Wordle! Well, the NYT did.
No joke. They even imply it will become a paid game eventually.

"When the game moves to The New York Times, Wordle will be free to play for new and existing players, and no changes will be made to its gameplay"
You sure?

Sounds like they still have to make up their mind, but you don't spend a million dollars without at least adding some ads.

Yes, they're arch capitalists, those New York Times journalists. They'll be charging a buck per Wordle.

Where is that quote from Mal, mine was from a NYT article.
What they haven't realised is these things generally don't stay popular for long and people will all be doing the next thing fairly soon.

I think they'll be happy enough just adding it to their existing stable of newspaper puzzle things.

Ah twitter.. People now convinced Bungie still own some of Halo so they can somehow get the earlier games made for PS

Lol, they couldn't even get a couple of Halo guns in Destiny without going down the Aldi route.

I'm sure the "we'll continue to make multiplatform games" plans from Bungie will change if Microsoft decides to make COD Xbox only, for example. Seems like a defensive acquisition from Sony to me. About time we had a good old console war Now, I’ve never bought a company before but I’m fairly sure it doesn’t happen in a week. I wonder if this was why D2 content was removed from Xbox GamePass in Dec? And I wonder if it’ll now all be heading to Sony’s new offering once that launches?

These acquisitions will have been brokered over a period of months, I highly doubt either one is in reaction to the other specifically, although both companies obviously playing the same game here.

That money for Bungie starts to make the Bethesda deal look like a real bargain! I was thinking this, when you look at the studios and IP that came with the Bethesda acquisition, half that price for just Bungie seems a bit steep. Unless Destiny is doing the absolute business that is.

They’re working on a brand new, totally different, never before sen, exclusive game for them. Code name: Bestiny.

Destiny was a massive let down. Sony have over paid for them.

I wonder how much of the money the employees see from acquisitions like this.
I’m guessing somewhere in the region of zero.

Perhaps it's a smart move by Sony as they haven't got a staple FPS game. I loved the Resistance series, especially 3.. but didn't catch on, and Killzone was alright.
We need a new HAZE.

Destiny is doing well in what is now it's 8th year. Shit like Anthem has tried to come along and occupy the same space and been utterly decimated by it. New expansion out at the end of this month and they've already committed to another 2 years worth of updates before what people are expecting will be a soft reboot of the series and possibly even a Destiny 3. Not bad for a game that's failed.

Ah, it was NetEase, not Tencent. Those Chinese companies all look alike!
