Apple are about to buy Sony right? No not SCE, Sony. If this is true and not a throwaway joke post, this is bigger than any acquisition Microsoft can make, IMO. Also selfishly, I much rather have Apple TV as the OS for my next TV than fuckin' Google TV edit: oh, quick search tells me this is a dumb rumor that's been going on for years, and it's mostly about Spider-Man and its rights I thought it was obvious I was making shit up?!

One of the DF dudes made a good Twitter point. If MS freed all the satellite studios from CoD servitude they’d have a half dozen studios to make new games. Heh. Watched a video from Nintendo Life of all places about this. Their take was it's bad for the industry as it continues the monopolization, but it's good for Activision Blizzard as it's maybe the only way to really change the culture and remove the CEOs that perpetuated the abuse and fraternity culture there. Also it could free up studios from being Call of Duty factories. Don't know if any of that will come to pass, but it would be funny if Phil's "we're re-evaluating our relationship" was just him saying "fuck it, let's buy them."

Is this supposed to be a gotcha? I'm confused. The tweet? Spencer is known for teasing stuff in the background. He sneakily revealed the Series S plus other announcements this way. Activision is on the shelf behind him. I believe it's a photoshop.

That's why we don't take everything as gospel on Twitter just because there's a blue tick next to their name.

I’m knocking up a 90 tweet long thread about what this means for the industry, it has charts and everything.

Historically, MS won't change anything, they never have in the past. They buy publishers and developers and let them carry on doing their thing as they always have. And for better or worse, they always seem to be fine feeding them enough rope for their acquisitions to hang themselves with.
Maybe that's changed in recent years, but I don't think so.

So that management that let the abuse happen probably all have a bunch of stock that just got bought by MS at almost double the price?

Yeah pretty much, it should lead to a better working environment for the employees though in the long run so it's not all bad news.

It's interesting that the post highlights Game Pass so much. They really are pushing that hard.
It's a great deal at the moment, but I wonder how long that can remain the case. Surely prices are gonna go up at some point, Netflix style.

I’m seeing a weird consensus from everyone I’d listen to in that this is both astonishing and, also, nobody gives a fuck, because Activision only make CoD, a game for teenage boys, and WoW, a game for mouth-drooling addicts, and nobody is sure who is actually playing them now apart from that they’re out there.
I was only saying days ago to someone that movies are fuck-all compared to video games dollar-wise. We get movies cracking a billion every couple of years it seems, but CoD and WoW were pulling in a billion each per year what, twenty years ago?
Look at Disney buying Star Wars and Indiana Jones for $4billion compared to $70billion for this roundly-hated grope factory.

I was gonna say that the perception about Activision only making CoD couldn't be true, but it's not far from the truth: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Activision_games:_2020%E2%80%93presentBut Blizzard has Diablo, Overwatch, Hearthstone and possibly Heroes of the Storm, which must all pull in a pretty decent amount of cash.

Much like any large gaming acquisitions, the big name titles eventually fade away and lose their shine. When Playstation users come to terms with not being able to play the next Elder Scrolls or Call of Duty, or Overwatch, they'll move on to something else. Other developers will grow to fill that void over time and new, sought after series will take their places.
As a Switch user primarily, I've played very little made by the biggest western 3rd party publishers and I've never really felt like I was missing much.

If you have a Swtich, you don't have to worry about any of this shit You misspelt PC. As for crying Sony COD bros, anyone playing an fps without a mouse has already failed. Fluffy torn between Cat-person and PC-person.
