You misspelt PC. As for crying Sony COD bros, anyone playing an fps without a mouse has already failed. Fluffy torn between Cat-person and PC-person. FWIW I'm a cat person too. And the FPS thing was tongue in cheek. It's objectively the most accurate way to play one but gaming is and should be open to all.

I wonder what exactly went into Nadella's mind as he agreed to this. A few years ago he was almost going to shut down the Xbox brand, and now they just spent 70 billion dollars on a videogames company.

It's high time these gaming corporate take-overs were done Syndicate style with miniguns, rocket launchers and persuadatrons.

Much like any large gaming acquisitions, the big name titles eventually fade away and lose their shine. When Playstation users come to terms with not being able to play the next Elder Scrolls or Call of Duty, or Overwatch, they'll move on to something else. Other developers will grow to fill that void over time and new, sought after series will take their places. As a Switch user primarily, I've played very little made by the biggest western 3rd party publishers and I've never really felt like I was missing much. Depends on your tastes, the clear majority of the games I like are Japanese, a lot of the Western AAA stuff leaves me cold. However, being only on Switch you still miss out on the likes of the From Software games, Capcom stuff like Resident Evil, FF7 Remake, the Ryu Ga Gotoku stuff from Sega, JRPGs like Persona 5, great Playstation exclusives such as Ghost of Tsushima, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank, Death Stranding, Nioh, Spiderman etc. It's not just Call of Duty and Halol you miss out on,

Can Phil Spencer arrange for Bobby Kotick to be fired out of a cannon as soon as the ink on the contract is dry? Preferably a cannon aimed towards a live volcano, with Kotick being denied a parachute (golden or otherwise)? Jonny Depp might be able to help ya there.

I just read on Twitter that MS could have bought Sega, Capcom, Square, Konami, Ubisoft and EA for less than they paid for Activision.
It’s mental.

EA alone would be worth as much as Activision due to their money-printing FUT business. And those other companies (except maybe Konami, lol) would cost no less than $10 billions each. Probably much more, if we live in a world where freaking Zynga is valued at $12 billions.

This little line from the internal email is probably directly targeted at concerns about Activision:
"We’re looking forward to extending our culture of proactive inclusion to the great teams across Activision Blizzard.”
The picture that includes the leadership team under Spencer in the press release was slightly majority female and made a point of he/him she/her statements.
Basically they're planning of ridding them of that cunt and that culture.

Acti was at about $50b right before the aquisition, so they paid about 30% premium.

Just musing, but the value of a listed company on the market in no way represents its potential to earn (see Tesla, Ocado, any block chain related outfit), and any purchase will be leveraged accordingly. Id be very surprised if MS paid all cash* for this deal, instead of some combination of cash, low-interest (which is as low as can be) hedged debt, share options and some other financial shenanigans
*I have not looked at any details that do not involve Bobby Kotick getting royally kicked in the Bobbys

Market cap is pretty pointless imo. If we go by that, MS could have bought Nintendo for 100 billions, including a hefty premium. But I don't think they would have agreed.

Just to put things into perspective. 70 billions is an entire year of profits for MS. Of course, the money must flow, so if they didn't do this, they would have probably bought something else. But still... it just feels a bit excessive, considering gaming is not their biggest business by far. Maybe they thought their other businesses were already solid enough, and gaming was the one that needed an uplift the most.

Also it's not like they're buying a company that doesn't generate it's own profit. It should pay for it' self, literally.

It's like MS suddenly woke up to how much revenue the gaming industry generates. It's shithuge. Cornering this market while having Phil Spencer talk about how much he loves the gamers and wants what's best for them is probably seen as quite viable now. I think MS put microtransactions in most of their games already, buying up some big publishers is likely how they envision themselves as the "Netflix of gaming" going forward.

I know I should care and it is bad for the industry. But as someone who like single player games I genuinely don't give a shit. When was the last time MS actually made a system selling single player game? Sony and Nintendo are wonderful for that and keep coming out with creative and innovative stuff. I am surprised MS have doubled down on what they already do rather than expanding their remit.
I was much more annoyed by Bethesda which I also thought made more sense in expanding the breadth of their games output.

I should have probably pointed out I'm talking specifically about EA, Activision, Ubisoft and Bethesda as the major Western AAA publishers. Those publishers just very rarely release games that appeal to me and those they do happen to be on Switch (although I've played them on other consoles).
You can completely disregard my post though as my tastes are pretty particular and polarising compared to the EG community. I just sold my second PS4 to CeX a few days ago because I couldn't get into Horizon, Spiderman and God of War. Hadn't touched iy for the best part of a year.
I do have a Series X, which has allowed me to play some of the fancier looking stuff the Switch doesn't have, like the Resident Evil games, Halo and Forza, but it still comfortably plays second fiddle to the Switch.
Gamepass is great for the indie stuff though, which is, in my opinion, almost always more interesting than the big budget stuff.

MS should have bought Sega instead, and spent the extra money hiring talent, restructuring, and rebooting franchises. Would have come out of it heroes.
Instead they spend $70bn on dicking PlayStation over Call of Duty, that even hardened fans have stopped buying every year and doesn't have the commanding position it once had.

I mean, I think I could get behind that. Sony could then do the same in reverse, and it becomes a slap fight.
