Guess that's why a bunch of these steam games end up on Humble Bundle Choice. So they're probably making a bit of change on that, but they still need to be noticed and rated 'good' in order to qualify.

certain publishers make billions and they act like they are poor and need to cut staff to survive as the shareholders can only afford 1 yacht or sports car this month
With gaming, there is so many games out there, a release can get smothered by everything else. botany Manor stood out it came to gamepass

They may make billions but that doesn't mean they necessarily need to prop up studios that aren't making money.
Pretty sure you wouldn't if it was your money.

was tango a failing game company?

was tango a failing game company? If believed..a lot of staff left with Mikami. Skeleton crew still trying to pitch a new game and would need to go on a heavy hiring spree. Game would have also taken another 3+ years to complete.

And, apparently, Hifi Rush took a lot of time, people and money to make. It's seems like a "small" game because of the way it was announced and released but it was a big effort.

www.eurogamer.net/microsoft-bosses-reportedly-pushing-for-no-red-line-around-which-xbox-games-launch-on-playstationI read this and I do wonder then what is the identity of Xbox if everything it makes just goes to other platforms. I think bought console exclusives are stupid and uncompetitive but I don't buy the argument that as a platform holder everything you create must go on every platform becasue after that what's the point of making a console. I honestly wonder if there's going to be a next Xbox because people aren't buying them, a lot of 3rd party devs are questioning the need for an Xbox version of their games and the CEO of MS doesn't really seem to care for them.

Even MS are at least open in saying they just didn't want to invest in the staff to fund the next project. Once again, every financial justification in the world can be made about closing Tango, but people can still be allowed to be upset about it.

I saw that. He left in 2015 and worked on rush as a contractor before moving ontoother projects like FF. Guy wouldn't have been with the studio over the last year.
MS weren't going to spend the time hiring all the new staff they wanted to make a new game(likely Rush 2)

Saw an interesting take that the mandated commitment to keeping COD multiplatform before the acquisition could go through has messed with their spreadsheets, and may have not only have led them to go on a cost cutting spree, but also potentially may be one of the primary motivators for shifting their strategy as a platform

Xbox just don't have the install base to make exclusivity a viable proposition for massive games and that's before you take Game Pass cannibalizing sales into account. They've painted themselves into a bit of a corner really.

They should have just made Bethesda/Activision games a year exclusive. COD day 1 and any new IP made after the acquisitions is up to MS if they eventually go to other platforms.
Keep the Xbox game studios titles as exclusive and should have always been 3-6 months before going on Game Pass imo(AAA games at least).

We need big games to make GP successful, buy Activision. Wow that was super expensive, don’t put their games on GP, we’ll lose money.

(I have no idea or skin in the game as I don't really care about xbox or CoD)

I guess it doesn't really increase the install base if no one's buying the consoles. I don't think people are going to get into a new ecosystem now. As Spencer said before they lost that in the PS4 generation.

But wouldn't people buy the consoles to play CoD? Alternatively, if their install base is so low, and big exclusives aren't going to increase it, then they really might as well dump the console and just put their games + gamepass on every device that they can to get maximum income. I bought an n64 to play Goldeneye, but I may be a bit out of date Bought a Switch so the kids could play Animal Crossing though.

Like I said people aren't going to change one ecosystem for another just to play a game like a COD. Things like friends list, subscriptions, digital and disc library. That stuff was all to fight for last gen. It's far too late now. When you can also get MS games on the same day on the pc why would you bother with an Xbox?

Release multi platform, but give all Cod players on Xbox double health and damage output!

I couldn't give a monkeys about CoD either. I quite like Xbox though but as long as I still have the existing hardware and access to the games I own (don't start that argument though) I'm not so attached that I couldn't move platforms. I don't do multiplayer in any form so I wouldn't be losing that.

They were always going to have to go multi platform to make Gamepass work, there’s no way that going from £50-£70 revenue per game to £15 per user for all the games is ever going to work out economically unless you dramatically expand your user base. And that isn’t going to be possible while they are tied in to an upfront commitment like buying a console. Even moving all the PS Cod players to Xbox wouldn’t be enough, they need people who don’t play traditional games to get on board.

There are significant hoops to jump through to put GP everywhere. For all the devs they try to get into the service, plus platform holders who would all be losing money by allowing it on their service in the first place. I don't see that being something they'll be able to manage and keep all sides happy . They aren't selling consoles, they aren't increasing GP subs, GP PC apparently didn't move the needle for them (according to a DF video I watched a day or so back).
They now have some major titles, plus the studios attached to them, but they can't afford to make those exclusive to GP.
And they've very suddenly, publicly, lost a huge amount of faith from the wider user base.
It's a weird place they've suddenly gotten themselves into.

And they also have people like me who done the £1 conversion of 3 years gold in 2019 and through using rewards points I’m subbed up into 2027. 8 years for around £90. And that covers two of us with game sharing
If they keep the rewards points going I can easily make that over 10 years.

I was actually kinda tempted by their All Access thingy, where you get an Xbox and Gamepass for 20ish quid a month, and own it after 2 years. Not probably as cost effective as you could do it, but less of an upfront cost for something that'd be guaranteed to run newer games that my PC can't.
But of course it wasn't available in my region. And then I was looking at the different models of xbox available and it was confusing AF, and then all the different kinds of gamepass available and it was even more confusing. Their site implies it's available on android, smart tvs, etc.. but I imagine that's bollocks.
Plus they've always been shit at naming things, so I can't tell if my Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Core on an Xbox One Series S is better than my Xbox Gamepass Cloud for PC on Xbox on my Xbox Series X One X S XS s or not. And then I gave up.
Gamepass itself seems like it'd be a great deal, if I could run half the games.

wouldn't have needed to bloody do this if you hadn't converted all the studios to be CoD support in the first place

Raven use to make great games - singularity was amazing back in the day (hope it holds up) Another example of publisher ruining a another good studio,
MS said they learned from Lionhead (they killed that studio via mismanaging that studio and it was live service shit as well)

For real. I'm thinking it's going to be approaching the bullshit price hike that PS PLUS got.
