The PS4 pro version looks exactly the same as the PS5 version. So either Guerilla have worked miracles or its not the bestest looking game ever....

www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wFAKxvJpU4&t=321sPS5 is the only version that runs at 60fps, but you get PS4 level detail. PS4 pro runs at 30fps but with a resolution bump over ps4 and a lot of the PS5 level graphics settings PS5 has a 30fps mode that runs at 4K with very similar graphic detail to PS4 pro To be fair the PS4 and PS4 pro versions are both exceptional looking games, but this is a last gen game with a next gen upgrade.

So it looks like the PS4 pro version with double the frame rate, but considerably better at 30.
Watching skill ups review and the graphics look incredible at times.

I've actually not even looked at footage or read any reviews. Going in full ass temps maxed regardless.

Fuck, it looks amazing. I'm back in the day one train. Watched the DF video. Small glimpses of the PS4 Pro there, but it wasn't the focus. It doesn't look identical to the PS5 version, but it's shockingly close. I noticed differences in lighting and world LODs, and I'm sure there will be more in the full PS4 focused video. Either way, it's still the best looking game around.

I feel like you need to watch the video that you yourself posted, he quite clearly lists the improvements that PS5 has over the other versions, and states that you get the exact same settings in both modes, only at a lower resolution at 60 fps.

I’ll definitely buy it after it’s been out a while. I didn’t fancy the first one at all but picked up the complete edition for £8 from Tesco when I had nothing else to play
Ended up being one of my favourite games of all time, possibly a rare 10/10. Didn’t stop playing until I’d collected every bit of info, trophy etc
The combat was just as good as the story. For once in a combat heavy game all weapons were viable and taking out the biggest robots without getting scratched was a delight
For me it was a quite magical experience, however despite that I can still see why people didn’t gel with it

How can PS5 owners ‘not’ buy this. One of the very few, if not only AAA first party game release for PS5.
It’s a day one, even though I’ve probably got a third still to go in DL2.

Honestly, the EG review is not about cultural appropriation. It has a brief aside about tribal warpaint or some such, but the actual criticisms, rightly or wrongly, focus on content (new weapons and enemies seemingly limited to side missions), characters and story. Even some of the more glowing reviews seem to feature a few caveats, as always YMMV. I thinks it’s the polygon or maybe Kotaku review that moans about the first game using “braves”. I didn’t bother reading the Eurogamer review. It is a silly place.

You don’t, there is another video which I’ll find, the difference between 30fps and 60fps is quite dramatic. Detail level on 60fps is PS4 quality. An easy spot is the the way the wind blows trees etc. They barely move at all in PS4 and ps5 60fps version. Where as the detail level in PS4 pro and ps5 30fps are comparable.

"if not the only AAA first party game release for PS5". Seems to be very much a PS4 game with a PS5 version, compared to Returnal, Ratchet and Demons Souls which are full on PS5 games. Plus Miles Morales, Ghosts of Tsushima, Death Stranding - all also first party PS5 games.

PS4/Pro would have been the lead platform for development of the game, they’d have been working on it as soon as they finished with HZD. So it’s not surprising or alarming to me that the PS5 version is the same game with vastly better load times, frame rate options, detail etc and the best version of the game overall.

I'm hoping with a bit more optimisation time we'll get similar performance modes to Spiderman:MM.

Cyberpunk is now his flavour of the week. Nothing else this month matters apparently.
Should be an interesting few weeks of discussion...

I think I'll wait for a £20-30 sale on this. As much as I enjoyed my time with the first, I never finished the DLC as I felt a little bit bored of the mechanics.. and this doesn't seem like it really does anything different.

There's a reason why it's a free upgrade to the PS5.

There's a reason why it's a free upgrade to the PS5. It's free because of this, no other reason. "Last year we made a commitment to deliver free upgrades for our cross-gen launch titles, which included Horizon Forbidden West. While the pandemic’s profound impact pushed Forbidden West out of the launch window we initially envisioned, we will stand by our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free."

Can't see them doing that if the PS5 was the main dev console. It's a nice bump up from what I've seen and costs them very little in the whole scheme of things. But I do think it would have been different had the PS5 been the main focus.
