I just had the stupidest epiphany 😅 I was wondering why I was so bad at drive impact and when I was practicing I realised that my finger hovered 10 centimetres above the button, as soon I rested my finger on the button I did a lot better 😀 Yeah in IMO you need to have finger over throw over drive impact, parry and throw at all times. |

Thanks broken English for the games, hopefully I gave you good training practice as I really didn't know what to do against dhalsim 😅
It's a shame there isn't a basic chat in a custom room to say you need to get off, I swear I didn't just to win!

So, everyone plays Marisa then. Played maybe a dozen or so matches last night and it must have been about 8 or 9 of them were against the towering centurion. Pain in the arse to fight as well, as her damage output is insane. I would feel like I was doing ok against them, only to see them still on half health when I've lost.
Also played against a Chun-Li that managed to have a 16 or so hit combo nailed that would melt over half my health.
Steered clear of ranked in my couple of online sessions, but thinking maybe that is the way to go. Might let me actually fight people that are near my bottom tier level.
Was playing Kimberley and found her good fun. Think I'll be sticking with her for a bit.

She has weaknesses. Her anti-airs arent great, she has no real answer to cross ups and her own crossup game is really is weak.
WINGMAN FGC UPDATE: I think its the stick. I remembered I had a WWE Brawl Stick with The Rock and HHH on it and it works fine. The PS3 mad catz fightpad is also flawless, so the joystick in my old TE is fucked.
Overall, yeah, would recomend if you have old gear knocking about.

I played a loooooooong set against brokenenglish last night and finished on a FT10 with Ken V Blanka. I'd never actually played him before so, at the start, I was working out the moves as we played but by the end, I was really enjoying it, so I might put a bit of time into him.

Had a really bad run of online games, lost 3 stars. Beaten by some good players including a beast of a Kimberly who hit me with repeat drive rush 20 hit combos. Also beaten by some scrubs, playing angry is not a good idea.
Worst was JP, I had no idea what was happening with his range attacks. So just got battered by his weird high low barrage in the corner.

I didn't realise quite how late it had got. Your Blanka was such a pain to deal with, but it was enjoyable nevertheless. You'll have to excuse my scrubby Ken, I have zero game plan with him. An old friend just bought his 1st Street Fighter since the SNES and had been trying him out. I'd been trying to show him some stuff with my limited Shoto knowledge and taken a bit of a liking to him. I'm still fucking clueless with him, though. |

I had literally no idea how to deal with Dhalsim. You were the first one I played and it did tilt me for the rest of the session. I kept pulling it back by playing a bit more sedately but then I just cant help myself with going all in again and getting thrown into the shadow realm. I really do need to get better at teching throws.

Also it's infuriating that you can set global commands, but you have to choose a command style for each character too. I kept trying to set my controls to classic, but when I went into games with Ryu it would default to modern.

The UI really is abysmal. You can choose the default control settings for you avatar in the main options, so not sure why you can't set all characters there.
I could see some people wanting to use different control schemes for different characters, maybe starting with modern to learn the character before going to classic, but I don't imagine most people play like that. I expect most are either using one or the other for all the characters.
Also, making the character select a little more obvious when joining a game would be better. It's weird you can't change character without leaving a "cabinet" in the battle hub too.

Finally taken the plunge and bought this, currently downloading at home whilst I'm at work.
I'll add my ID later and be up for a pasting tonight. I'll be rotating between Ryu, Guile and Dee Jay until I've had chance to get used to some new characters (didn't get a chance to play the Beta, only the demo).
All losses will be blamed on the 360 D-Pad and not my shit skills.

Did anyone else get the connection problems last night? I tried to play some, but couldn't get into any game.
I tried to do some ranked matches, which it initially put me against a CPU player for a couple of matches (I'm so bad I lost one of these against a level 5). It then tried searching and would either pop up with a connection error or just be searching continually. I eventually gave up and went to the Battle Hub, but couldn't join the couple of games I tried there either. I've had it come up with a connection error a couple of times before, but not for this kind of extended period (had it once or twice on the title screen).

Yeah, I think the servers went down about half ten. Looking at my stats, it saved some face for the diamond Luke I was playing with my day 2 blanka as handful of my wins didnt get recorded.

Does anyone know what the logic is for placing your rank?
I picked bronze to begin with (highest I achieved in SF5) and of the 5 matches against bronze people I lost 4 and won the others against iron/new challengers.
It's put me in Gold??! That was my lifetime goal for this game, I feel like I've peaked too early...

I wonder if it looks at how much damage you can do in a combo? Using modern I can do 3000+ by pressing 3 buttons with a super
It can't just be wins for placement

I believe it's down to what you choose initially, how you end a round as in using a super, and how many rounds you win consecutively. Regardless it doesn't matter at all, you're in Gold. Well done!
