Thanks to your expert Sonicking, I managed to not only complete the stage but also get an S rank. ✊🏽
I guess the trick that worked for me was making sure I landed at the left-most tip of that falling spiral platform, because any further and it'd start crumbling prematurely making it harder to gain traction and run up.
Thanks again!

So just how bad is the switch version? My boy wants it for Christmas. He probably won’t really notice a lot of graphical issues, but if the core game is a bit shit….

RobEG it doesn't look too bad. Shame about Switch's inability to support 60fps, but it looks pretty close otherwise.

Main story finished. Really enjoyed this and will look to complete all the Cyberspace levels.
Fully maxed out Sonic via fishing but you really don't need to and they should have just capped him at level 50. Last boss was actually the easiest out of them all.
Edit - turns out the last boss is very different when you play on hard mode.
I would move to that right away but no New Game+
2nd edit.. you can change to hard before the boss to get the full battle.

Nice. I'm like halfway through the third island. I have all of Sonic's skills, but maybe about 45 attack and defense, 27 speed and I haven't leveled up ring count at all. Didn't really see a reason why at first, as I thought it'd just take going all lightningy longer to activate. It wasn't till just before the second boss fight that I realized it was to extend your time as Super Sonic. So I might start focusing my Kocos on that from now on.
I've been trying to S rank all the stages before moving onto the boss fights. I think I'll fast travel to the first map and attempt the stages I only got an A in before moving onto the fourth island. I think it was only 1 or 2 cyberspace stages.
I'm glad you're enjoying this also!

Leveling up Speed and Rings is a chore as you have to do it one level at a time unlike the other two.
They need to patch it so it's not as time consuming.

My nephew is after this for the Switch for Chrimbo so I hope it'll be OK. I don't think he'll be too aware of graphical downgrades etc unless the framerate really tanks. Even then, he'll just be enjoying it for what it is. It's currently down to £32.99 on Amazon which is the cheapest I've seen it so far (standard switch version).
Edit: £30 at Smyth's toy store if anyone's interested.

Sonic origins reduced to 18 on switch. Tempted at this price although it could go lower I reckon.

Think it's the same price on PSN and XBL too.

Classic mode is basically the same as previous re-release/the originals minus the MJ music. New songs aren't as good. The Anniversary mode with 16:9 and infinite lives mode is nice. The art and music galleries are cool, if you're into that. Non-essential if you have other methods of playing the games, but it's nice to have everything in one place.

Very much agree with Spooky, its not essential, but it's nice.
One minor improvement is that the special stages are a lot smoother, the rotation of the maze in 1, the half-pipe tunnel in 2 and the spheres in 3 are *much* smoother than the originals. But not exactly groundbreaking.
They really missed a trick not including the 8 bit games tbh.

I saw the Amazon sale and folded on Sonic Frontiers.
Ended up doing the first island in one sitting. Definitely some jank there but it's actually pretty fun. I enjoyed shooting about the place, fighting enemies and collecting the stuffs. The cyberspace levels are just bite sized enough for that 'one more try' feel when chasing goals. The music is surprisingly chill on the open areas too.
Good stuff so far. Looking forward to diving in to the second island tonight.

Also tempted on Frontiers in the sales - been umming and ahhing on it all weekend. What's the general consensus here, good? Worth £35? I've watched a few videos on it and can't decide as it looks a bit empty and rough, but then I freaking loved Death Stranding and that's literally got nothing between the mission start and end points.

It's been £25 in the sales, so shop around and grab it.
Says he after buying it for £28 and not playing it yet...
Looks like the £25 deal is gone now but it's still £28 at Currys for example.

Got it for £30 and feel happy with my purchase. On the third island now...this is after going back to 100% two previous since I enjoyed it so much.
It has its janky moments like most 3D Sonic but I reckon its the best attempt they've made in years. Pop up is pretty bad but just doesn't bother me, having tons of fun with it and a bit of nostalgia as it does occasionally reference old mainline games.
I am a Sonic fan though, so your milage may vary.

Yeah, I had a great time with it. That's the key, if you enjoy 3D Sonic games, this is excellent 3D Sonic. If you don't and wish this was Sonic Mania 2, it won't change your mind.

I did buy it. I wouldn't say it's amazing but as someone that finds some weird therapy in open-world checklists this is scratching that itch.
I also got NFS Unbound today and want both Calisto Protocol and Midnight Suns on Friday so fuck knows when I'll actually play any of them.

What's this closer to then? Sonic Adventure? Mania? 2? Unleashed???
Tempted to pick it up for my 4 year old (knowing full well he will lose interest after 2 minutes).

I'd say Adventure, with a bit of Mirror's Edge in the open world exploration. A lot of the collectibles are often reached by grinding rails, and it has that feel of Mirror's Edge in just getting those smooth runs. But the cyberspace stages, ie zones in other games, are similar to those in Adventure and Unleashed.

I picked up origins in the eshop sale for 16 quid. Had a quick rattle though it and I have to say I quite like it. The 16:9 looks gorgeous on the OLed, some of the museum stuff is interesting to look through. The manuals brought alot back.
I lived and breathed sonic in the early 90s so probably target audience. Bit annoying about the sonic 3 music but I imagine that's a legal nightmare.
If they were to drop sonic 1/2 from game gear and sonic spin ball as extra DLC (free for bonus points) I would be ecstatic.
I have unfinished business with GG sonic 2. Fucking hard as nails

GG/Master System Sonic 1, 2 and Chaos were all a lot of fun. I do remember 2 being a bastard though.
How hard would it be for Sega to do a “complete” bundle or budget releases of them? Howay man
