That explains why they haven't added Sonic 1 or 3 to the Mega Drive collection. Still a poor move. I understand you want to minimise the number of versions you have on a store front, but you could just stop making them.
I do hope the collection sells poorly.

I think the ones on the Switch (Sega Ages?) are special vesions so will be different to what you're getting here presumably. I saw the Jimquisition on this and the preorder stuff is a laugh

It's a pretty miserable package.
Overpriced in general, but even then I'd have been tempted if it wasn't for the ridiculous positioning of versions and extras. SEGA are just squeezing that hedgehog dry.

At least it cheered Jim Sterling up a bit after the grim news they normally comment on

First Sonic Frontiers trailer. Looks a bit Xenoblade/BotW ish. Weird.

Snippet looks immediately dull but won't judge yet.
Art direction looks shit though, I'll judge that right now.

Are those hamster wheels like the Ubisoft towers of the game?
It looks good, if not necessarily what I wanted out of Sonic. But I've accepted that the multiple path to the end stage gameplay of the 2Ds is difficult to translate to 3D.
The music is nice, if a bit Square Enix RPGish.

Looks nice, gameplay feels a little like if Unleashed actually let you travel around the broken planet on foot... I like what I'm seeing here but there's very little to glean in a half-minute snippet.
Cautiously optimistic so far, would like to see more.

Not sure a realistic art style really fits Sonic. Have they not learned?!

It's there so they can render even more realistic humans for Sonic and Shadow to fall in love with.

How realistic can you call that though? Sonic looks like... Sonic, and if we're talking environments then the Sonic Adventures and Unleashed had realistic-looking environments already, and better interaction with humans than '06. Plus the two movies were very well received, so even recently Sonic interacting with humans has been proven to work.
No one wants another Sonic 06 fiasco (which I'm assuming is what you're worried about) but until I see Eggman looking like this (or, you know, a princess Snow Whiting him back to life ) I'm not overly worried they'll go down that path again...

Eh, Unleashed looked more stylised. Adventure was so lo fi I have no idea whether they were trying for realism anyway.

They might as well try something different. Other than bits of Adventure, the 3D Sonic games have fallen somewhere between bad and terrible.

Really? I thought Colours, Forces, Unleashed and especially Generations were all well received and I enjoyed the first three apart from Forces being rather short (never got around to playing Generations for whatever reason).
I also enjoyed Black Knight, for that matter, but that's much more subjective, I'm aware the railroads gameplay is not everyone's cup of tea.
We uh... We don't talk about Boom

I don't really know about the others, but Generations was good. The best bits were the 2D sections, but even the 3D bits were tolerable.
I can see open world working for Sonic. The open nature of the traditional levels hasn't particularly translated to the 3D world, with them becoming much more linear and basically on rails. An open world might encourage some different paths and options.
All comes down to how it controls though and making Sonic control nice in a 3D world without taking too much control away is always going to be difficult and hasn't been solved yet.

I liked Generations, both the 2D and 3D bits. Certainly not terrible (okay, it shits the bed at the final boss, but until that point it's fun).
The non-werewolf sections in Unleashed were also pretty fun.

2D Sonic was always partly on rails once you picked up some speed. I just don't think the Sonic gameplay translates well to full 3D without losing what made it good. They should go down the DKCTF route and make something 2.5D with plenty going on in the environments and nice perspective shifts. Seems to be people think it should go 3D because Mario did but Mario is very different even in 2D

It's just never felt right as a 3D game for me. Maybe full on open world is just the ticket.

Suprised they never went metroidvania with it. Missed the boat now but a stripped down sonic who slowly builds up abilities with special shoes/emeralds etc always seemed a good fit.

Having no enemies in the demo makes it feel a bit like Pathless. Although obviously looking more Breath of the Wild-y.

I’ll keep an open mind about the open world angle though, it really could be just what it needs. Makes sense with the excessive speed

Love all the completely random platforms and rails and shit everywhere. A very believable world they've created there
The original sonic games had a really distinctive artstyle that the series seems to have just dumped as well

It really does look like those articles with the title "game xyz fan trailer made in UE4/5". It has a character that doesn't fit the world it's in and as AA said it just has things like rings and the like awkwardly placed in the environment. At this point it feels like the devs just said let's do a realistic BotW world and we'll just cram things in from there.

Yeah, it looks like a tech demo. Very "gee, imagine what Sonic would be like in 3D!" I'm getting Sonic X-Treme vibes. I can't wait for the Sega Saturn to release.
