Haha. Yeah. They should probably have looked into that first. It’s not like the good old days of Unreal Tournament, where youI could simply drag and drop folders to import maps from other unreal engine games, like Deus Ex.

I just had my first interaction with a Bounty Hunter in space, but I’ve no idea why I have a bounty on me in the first place. They wouldn’t tell me who or why, either. Is there a way to check if you have a bounty on you? Can anyone put a bounty on you? Do you even have had to do anything bad to receive a bounty on you?

I put that bounty on you because space badgers are an abomination. I'll do it again.

You can get bounty's wiped on places like Mars near the bounty terminal. Think mercs put them on you for killing them. Otherwise you get them for getting caught stealing or killing innocent people.

Did you take the Wanted perk?

I don’t think so. I’ll have a check shortly. I did discover I was holding a weapon I think I may have stolen, so obviously the sensible thing to do was to fly to an empty planet and throw it away.
I have also since discovered the bounty terminal can be built inside my ship, so I did that. Turns out no bounties are placed on me at this time. So either I got tricked into coughing up cash, or somebody really wanted that weapon back.

I should have done that. Just didn’t know what I was about to escalate and if I’d regret it further down the line. I don’t know how hardcore Bethesda are with stuff like this. I’m up for a fight, but if I’m gonna get harassed every 30 minutes I might lose my mind

I always just fight them. It never seems to send more ships per confrontation so always an easy fight.

Sweet. That’s what I’ll do from now on. I’ve yet to lose a fight of any kind, but I don’t know what to expect with this game. I should probably make the most of space combat. Haven’t done much of it at all.

Best to get used to it as some side quests and late game missions can get space combat heavy.

Haven’t done much of it at all. You can level up very quickly if you do the space simulator as part of the UC questline. You can use the simulator as many as times as you want. Just increase or decrease the difficulty when you use it.

There's a key card on one of the trolleys in the flight sim room. Once you've stared the sim, jump up and access the terminal. You'll be able to increase your weapons and shields and give yourself a couple of wingmen. The latter can make it tricky to get kills though.

I thought I knew when to break from the main quest line, but beyond a few passive missions and activities, I haven’t really done that. I think I completed one UC mission, but haven’t signed up for any other faction yet.

dangerousdave skirting around spoilers here, but the one piece of advice I wish I’d known on my first playthrough is… it’s fine not to do every side quest line/faction, even if you’re usually a completionist in Bethesda games. But if you get a decent way through a side quest line, make sure you’re either done with it or happy to abandon it before you finish the main quest.

Ah crap. I wondered if something like that would happen. I guess at the moment I’m just enjoying the general pace of the game, the atmosphere and such, so I shouldn’t be overthinking these things, but I tend to enjoy side quests in games more than the main ones.
I hope it’s obvious when I reach this certain point in the main quest. I won’t look up spoilers, but it would be nice to be able to make a decision at the right time as to what I want to do.

You can play through the main quest as little or as much as you like. There's no point of no return and you can back out of the "ending" until you're ready to move on.

I tried 60fps again on Series X, but it really exaggerates the fish bowl lens effect on the screen. I assume that has something to do with the field of view, but there’s very obvious stretching at either end of the screen. It’s the same at 30fps, I know, but it’s weirdly less distracting. I don’t suffer motion sickness often, but this is usually the kind of thing that triggers it.
I could start messing around with those settings, but I hate tinkering with things like this. It’s why I don’t game on PC. I just want games to work out of the box and look normal. I’ll just keep the settings consistent with the Series S. That way there are no jarring differences when switching between the two.

Had my first zero-g mission as a bounty hunter and had a blast. I saw the twist from a mile off, but the combat was good fun. I find an almost sniper rifle and just waited for enemies to drift in front of my crosshairs.
It did kindly reminded me I could also be upgrading and buying new ships. I’ve slapped a few storage compartments and an engine on my existing ship for now, but all the small items that decorated my original ship have just been moved into my storage, so now it feels a little hollow. Also, I’ve also barely used the research stations. I still can’t even make two of them.
I might have to take a detour and hunt some materials somewhere.

Don't do any bounty missions while doing the side quest involving the crimson fleet...

Don't do anything while doing the Crimson Fleet story unless you are into walking simulators.

Noted. I don’t think I’ve even spoken to the crimson fleet yet. I’ll try and find them.

If I remember rightly you don't get it from speaking to them.

Just gotten into this. Is crafting, and research for that matter, worth bothering with? Does it get you anything worth having that you can't just find from gear drops?
12 hours in and I've done zero of either. I've gone to the work stations a few times to take a look but I don't have the mats needed for anything that looks useful, despite a cargo hold full of whatever crap came along that was labelled crafting, I really cba with grinding around planets with the scanner and mining tool either, never used the mining since the intro mission.

As someone who levelled up a lot of that, nothing of any value. Absolutely not worth it.

I’ve not done much of it, but you can track the ingredients for crafting, automatically, which makes gathers materials rather easy. But I’ve yet to make anything super useful.
