So does mine, I'm wondering if it scoops up all the misc shit when you change ships or something.

I think I've cracked the mystery of the random crap collector. I believe it's the ship technician tidying up for you when you upgrade.

Also who keeps filling my ship cargo with miscellaneous junk?? I dismissed Mickey Caviar because I was convinced it had to be him, but I still keep finding pens and clipboards and other rubbish. Nooooo please tell me companions donât do this! My ocdâs gonna kick right off!

I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with companions and is in fact entirely related to ship building. Every single loose item in your ship gets transferred to the cargo hold every time you modify that ship in any way. It resets all that default ship junk with new items even if you've not picked up and moved any of it. Especially annoying for things like dumbbells which serve zero purpose and weigh a ton.
I kind of get why they had to do this but it is a bit ridiculous. It's essentially an extremely laborious infinite money cheat but who can be arsed for such little return.

Ok thatâs not so bad. I have zero interest in building ships. Iâll just buy them in a shipyard thank you with all the wealth Iâve accumulated kill looting all the space scummers across the galaxy! Yes sir! I am a weapon of destruction sir! Just smoke me a kipper Iâll be fine sir!

Hmm. Hit 28 hours tonight and I'm starting to see the seams. The space bases are so similar. The planet surfaces are absolutely rubbish. Just 100x100m squares procedurally repeated. Change the colour of the dust and fauna a bit and wham, new planet created. Gah.

It seems the game needs tons of mods to actually be better experience for more than 20h
A friend, big gamer dropped it after 20h only.
Has 500h in witcher 3.
I guess I'll wait few years.

I hit over 30hrs yesterday and while I enjoyed the early hours it's pretty much the definition of bland. You spend way too much time in menus, fast travelling, loading screens and telling your companions to shut the fuck up. The game also looks more awful in so many areas like it should've released 5 years ago.
You get peaks of old Bethesda magic in certain side quests but it's just bogged down in so many half baked systems. Just main lining the story now and maybe Bethesda will do something with this game eventually.

It's definitely a mile wide and an inch deep when you look at the whole thing.
I can't have been playing that long...
..70+ hours! There must be something about it that keeps me there. Main plot and the bigger side quests tickle my sci-fi itch.
Maybe it really clicks after 100hrs.

I certainly had my fun with it, but yeah it's about as deep as a puddle and after a certain point it goes from being a fun diversion, to I'd rather watch paint dry than play any more of it.
I'll definitely dip back in for more at some point, but I definitely burnt myself out on this by spending a week of holiday time playing it.
Curious to see where they go with DLC, as they've kind of painted themselves into a corner in terms of adding new areas.

Aye, think I'm going to mainline it mostly now tbh.
The mind boggles that the designers nerfed the key feature of their template - wandering - and replaced it with menus. Staggering decision. Makes you wonder if they strived for a seamless universe but fell short and there was no choice but to ship it.
Will be fascinating to hear insights into the development of this game over the coming years.

I think for me the main story is just incredibly boring. I spent most of my time in The Lodge trying to kill them all, whilst waiting for their tedious dialogue to end.. The most fun I had was stealing ships, and generally being a dick to poor innocent bystanders. I feel like they sort of missed a trick in this, in that you could really go down a good/evil route, but instead it steers you in the typical Bethesda way.

Sometimes it's hard to define why we play a certain game. I've spent 230 hours playing Mordheim, which is really not a good game. But I just loved my rat and chaos gangs, and although it was kind of tedious, I wanted to see them succeed.
Have also clocked over 200 hours already in No Man's Sky, and well, I'm basically just hunting for cool looking starships and multi tools, while doing the odd repetitive mission here and there and improve my bases a bit from time to time.
Or Warframe, I think I've played over 1000 hours before I finally stopped. Sometimes it's enough if there are a few cool things in a game that you enjoy, even if the whole game is not terribly good.

I still find it amusing that they confiscate all your stolen stuff and then spawn you next to the chest containing it all so you can just steal it again on the way out. Less amusing is that they've patched whatever bug it was that put all your contraband in there as well.

I found the contraband 'system' another fine example of them not fleshing out an interesting idea. It's a cool concept being a space smuggler, but then getting your gear nicked is so irritating, as is having it dormant in your inventory, so I ended up looking up online and discovering a place you can fence your contraband on a space station. And thus, a few more clicks of the menus takes me to a contraband trader. Perhaps I shot myself in the foot by not waiting to discover the location organically, but the thought of spending 100 hours and not having anywhere to flog contraband was too annoying to contemplate.

Iâm on over a hundred hours now, still enjoying it well enough. I agree with basically all the negative points people are making, and right now I wouldnât rank it above Skyrim or Fallout 3/NV, but thereâs just enough good stuff there to keep coming back to.
I do think it deserves a few special shout outs for things it does better.
The weapon designs are excellent, I like how you can tell the manufacturer instantly, and the customisation options are fun to tinker with.
The quests are well written and frequently adaptable to your skillset- and there are LOADS to discover. If I may go a bit meta, I was missing the âwander off in a direction and see what you discoverâ element of the game, until I realised I was basically doing a version of that through the quest log. I really like picking a questline, being sent to a system, realising I have an activity there, which opens up another questline, oops I have too much stuff, back to base, quick shag for the experience boost, oh she wants to talk, guess weâre getting married now or something, etc etc. Wandering from one quest to another rather than one map icon to another somehow makes the loading screens a bit more bearable.
And lastly, of course, the doors. Best doors in videogames.

The wandering is what I want in their games. All the other jank I donât have that much of an issue with, I almost enjoy it. Crappy Ui and lack of map doesnât bother me either.
I like the atmosphere of the game and the world/ip in general. The gunplay is decent and the big quest lines are fun. The graphics can be great, but also pish in places. The space combat is a nice aside. Ship customisation is great.
I do find the gameplay boring as the only developed play style is guns. Melee and stealth are not as good as previous games. The skills are generally uninteresting and not as fun as previous games..
The random pois are mostly totally forgettable. I really tried having a go at exploring a whole planet but was so bored running to different points of interests with nothing there or having multiple repeats in the same biome.
There are none of the great random stand out moments like I remember from Skyrim ie the talking dog, the getting pissed then waking up in another city, the other daedrik artifact quests, the searching for priest masks and dragon shrines. The vampire murder town, the home in the mountains you find with everyone dead and gradually work out the cause.
There are far less lore books to find and read. Basic things from previous games are missing here; eating food without picking it up, being able to wait anywhere. Why?
Things you get told by npcs arenât consistent with the game world. âThere are tons of planets out there no one has set foot onâ Every one one Iâve been too has outposts/abandoned labs and ships landing every 5 mins . Or âthis mining will make us richâ The minerals sell for peanuts at vendors.
So much feels underdeveloped, underwhelming, half finished or just low effort. Iâm ranting because I do really like playing their games, just disappointed in this one.

Oh, so now you want to know about those shiny new ships and where they come from? Because you couldn't give a fuck when I was climbing all over one in the desert 10 minutes ago.
Well as luck would have it, here's another one. Shall we go and get a closer look? Oh, you don't give a fuck anymore.

I enjoy this game, but I don't love it. And I really have to be in the mood for it. It's like a slow, poorly paced soap opera with me avoiding all the romantic options at all costs at all times. The mere idea of the voice lines just makes my nuts tighten in a most uncomfortable manner.
Has anyone played out the [Flirt] option with the various party members to, er. Fucking?

Yes. Me and Andreja are âcommittedâ. As-in, we made a commitment to be together, not, âwe should be committed to an asylumâ. Although given that we do the horizontal shuffle on a single bunk in a crowded ship, sometimes for 30 hours depending on the planet, I do wonder if we should be.

They should have made it just one planetary system and hand-crafted a bunch of content that you need to physically fly your ship to.

That would have been excellent. Our solar system actually has enough variety to provide different locations. People always forget the many moons of our largest planets. And to not have to render the whole Earth, you could just invent some catastrophe, be it climate collapse or nuclear war, or an alien invasion or whatever. Mars could be the new home with a few terraformed areas that house the major hubs. Hell, you could even do interesting stuff with the asteroid belt and the Oort cloud.

Going to give up on the planet exploration side. For everyone 1 cool thing there are 8 nothings.
I got a mission to fully survey a planet, so decided to do that and see where it takes me. 3 traits, some fauna and flora etc.
First place i went to was an industrial outpost. Nothing there but some npcs milling about. But they gave me a quest to kill some pirates, which led a good dungeon in a creepy lab. More like it! So it can be good.
But after that is was 5 diseased biomes, 4 melted glaciers and 3 fungal glades and 3 collapsed mines. All identical. There was also a scientific outpost gave me a quest to place a sensor at vent. The npc chat was identical to chat at the industrial outpost.
The landscapes can look good but with everything miles apart and with a high chance of finding something you have seen multiple times before It just doesnât seem worth my time wandering around.
Back to quests then!

It doesn't seem like i have been missing too much by not landing at outposts unless required to for a mission then.
I am busy working through the terrormorph questline just now. It's been fun, but at level 30-odd I am possibly a little bit too OP for them now, so their actual threat was not much. Especially with some pistol and full stealth sneak attack bonuses at any rate.

Are telling me that with all this new fangled technology there is no faster way to get me the locations without me having to fly back and see you every single time? If you're that desperate for company how about you go and live with some, and don't give me that bollocks about no space at the lodge , we both know there's a spare room going now . Better still, just give me fucking list you bald headed cunt.
