Tempted to try and squeeze in a playthrough of Inquisition ahead of this.
Thinking the same, went to Nexus to see which mods needed updating since last I played, and bloody hell, that'd be a days work.
The teeth morphing is absolute nightmare fuel:

Bwuhhh... I thought Dragon Age was a turn-based thing?! Did I dream that when I played the first game or did they make it hack'n'slash in a later one?

Only the first one was, if I recall correctly.
Inquisition had an optional turn-based mode, or something close to it, but they've primarily had real-time combat since 2.

I've only just noticed the goggle wearing skeleton that seems to be a companion character. More of that please.

I like the idea of this being a more curated mission based structure. It harkens back to older Bioware RPG's.
I liked Inquisition, but having basically a half dozen or so really big maps with a lot of fetch quests wasn't the best game design (ME:A suffered from this as well).
Bioware of old really nailed that feeling of an epic adventure, with some quite focused mission based structures. Give me a hub, or a few that you basically use for a bit of character development and then launch some missions from there, it's much more akin to, what I would consider, a traditional Bioware RPG.
I also just got off FF7 Rebirth. Whilst I loved that game, there was a lot of bloat in there which could have been scaled back, so I am all for a more curated experience and I don't want to collect any fucking shards.

I've beaten the, "I'm sick of open-world games!" drum to within an inch of its life already, but... well, I am (unless it's a Dragon's Dogma/Elden Ring affair, with maps that are actually fun to explore)!
Veilguard* being more linear is a major plus for me.
* I still hate this title.

This looks pretty good. I got no real attachment to the series having not played the others (always been in the back of my mind to play but never got round to it). I didn’t realise this is coming out on PS5 too, thought it was just an Xbox exclusive.

I’ll third welcoming a return to something more mission and story focussed after the formless splurge of DA:I.
I’m slightly surprised by the negativity toward this from different bits of the media and youtubers. I’m not sure what they were expecting but it very much looks like another Dragon Age to me.

Reveal trailer: 37K upvotes, 205K downvotes. Gameplay reveal: 20K upvotes, 4.3K downvotes. Obviously it's early days for the latter, but the former was already at 50/50 by this point on Sunday. Perhaps public perception is taking a turn for the better?
Well, this post aged like decade-old milk:
54K upvotes 71K downvotes

I'm wondering what's going on with Vincent Price's hands, in the middle there. One of them looks purple and damaged, the other one looks younger than it should.
New Fortnite season looks good

Can't speak for Inquisition (never played it), but Origins was real time with pause, not turn based. I probably would have liked it a lot more if it had of been turn based.

Vandelay Thanks for clarifying. That sounds like Inquisition's alternative combat model - you could hit a button to enter 'tactical mode' (or something along those lines), giving you a broader view of the encounter and the chance to give commands to your party members.

Trailer was fine, looked very nice graphically. Was glad to hear it was more linear and mission based. Haven't played that kind of thing for a while so I'm ok with that. Combat didn't look the greatest, when I see hack and slash I judge them against the masters such as Capcom but also Santa Monica studios and I was left wanting. I guess I can only see how it reviews really.

So, Inquisition's biggest "sin" was not letting you kiss the dwarf scout? Jesus fucking Christ why does every RPG have to be horny. IT'S OKAY TO HAVE CHARACTERS THAT DON'T WANT TO FUCK YOU

That said, I agree that it'd be nice for some RPGs to not just be about romancing every character. But Bioware RPGs in particular seem to have a huge market who are mainly into the romance options, so they probably want to enable as many options as possible.
Some other RPGs recently have gone more down the 'Sorry dude, I'm just not that into you' route though, I think.

I understand people wanting their romance options, and I can accept that it probably just Isn't For Me.
But it is a bit weird that your party members in BG3 (and this, I assume) have no sexual preferences at all, and are down to potentially fuck the player character no matter what. Everyone has to be bisexual, everyone has to be the epitome of sexual freedom and progressiveness, regardless of the race or culture they come from.
It makes characters feel far less realistic and human to me. But if that's the price we have to pay for inclusivity, I guess I'm fine with it.

The opening paragraphs of the GameSpot article are pretty cringeworthy (as is the title), but they do offer some non-horny tidbits later on.
I'm not all that fussed about romance in RPGs, myself. It's a nice option to have, especially as my IRL dry spell dwarfs that of the Sahara Desert, but it's by no means mandatory for me - my V in Cyberpunk ended up alone 'cause Panam wasn't into girls, and that was fine.
Totally fine.
DAMN IT, PANAM! WHY CAN'T YOU FIND IT IN YOUR HEART TO LOVE ME THE WAY I LOVE YOU?!
Ahem.
Totally fine.

Hell, I didn't like Inquisition much at all, but I think the romance bits of it were the best that bioware has done until now. There were several party members who were not down to bang, and to me that's perfectly fine!

You know what would be really good?
If they remastered DA2 so that the dungeons weren’t copy pastes of each other and then people could appreciate its plot as being the most interesting concept of the three so far.

Agreed, albeit sadly - if EA wasn't prepared to finance Dead Space 2 Remake, even with much of the groundwork having been laid courtesy of the reworked original, I don't see them stumping up the cash for a proper overhaul of Dragon Age 2 (as much as I'd like to see it).

OK I've watched the trailer now and yeah that looks shit. I mean we've gone from Origins still being a proper cRPG in the mould of Baldur's Gate, to Dark Alliance? Fuck it time to load up Baldur's Gate 3 again. Vandelay Thanks for clarifying. That sounds like Inquisition's alternative combat model - you could hit a button to enter 'tactical mode' (or something along those lines), giving you a broader view of the encounter and the chance to give commands to your party members. Which was shit and didn't work properly. From a UI point of view. It also didn't work properly as the combat in inquisition has zero tactics.
