If it saves them needing a 70gb day one patch and a lengthy apology for why the ending is half a single screen of text I’ll take a spring/summer 24 release

The eventual 130gb day one patch and lengthy apology when it comes out in autumn '26 probably aren't going to go down well round here.

It's a pity they didn't include the 40K Inquisition as well, we could have had Russell Crowe in a Leman Russ.

Very, very brief mention of the status of Dreadwolf in the statement from Gary McKay about Bioware offloading The Old Republic development to Broadsword:

Pointless aside: ugh, I do so loathe that corporate-speak. Why does any company think it's a good idea? 'Tis soulless and off-putting! On topic: thanks for posting the update, Mike - I'm hoping Dreadwolf will be out next year, preferably not too close to Dragon's Dogma II (whichever comes along first). It'll be the first BioWare game I buy at launch.
Random afterthought: re Mass Effect, please take all the time you need, BioWare. I can't stomach another Andromeda, and I'm not sure the franchise would withstand it either.

Playing 2 now. I miss the days when the camera was in the correct location and the mouse pointer worked correctly.

It must be really weird for Bioware to look at Larian absolutely bossing the games that made them as a studio. After the recent sacking of 50 staff it feels like this is it for them.

That’s earlier than I imagined.
The fall of Bioware is one of the saddest gaming stories I think. Up there with the fall of Sega, although Sega’s been on the rebound in recent years. Just need to revive more of their franchises.

Strangely for an EA studio it seems to be of their making as opposed to EA being EA.

Better a delay then an unfinished or diminished game at the end of the day…

They released the previous three games in the span of 5 years. If Dreadwolf will be released in a year that's ten (!) years after the last game.

Firing Mary Kirby is a huge move. Not sure what the thinking is behind that, but it can't bode well.

First time I heard Gideon Emery was Balthier in Final Fantasy XII. Then when Dragon Age II hit, I was like “oh it’s Balthier!” Now whenever I hear or see him in things, it’s like a race to see which character enters my head first.

EA really have killed Bioware, its been mismanaged for ages now and its had a snow ball effect. You can blame Bioware for the state of games but EA always interfere with games. They killed Dead space by demanding 2 and 3 have certain things and 3 killed the franchise. Mass effect got turned into shooter when they game was not the best shooter. Sure Deadwolf was suppose to have a big MP section and DA: I was going to be a MMO?
While I'm putting the boot into EA, they put thge Burnout IP into the old folks home but still try to make NFS games a thing when they have been shit for years

Doesn't being forced to use Frostbite always come up as a major issue after every Bioware game?
They used to put out great game after great game.

ME:A and DA2 (that started out as an expansion of DA:O I believe) were rushed because of EA, and they also required all games to include multiplayer which didn't help things.. The backlash from ME3's story was of BioWare's making however, and I guess the side quest quality of DA:I (especially compared to Witcher 3 which launched 6 months later) as well.

Not to sound like an EA apologist but Dead Space remake is a thing, so you could say they've revived it. Also iirc recent NFS games are actually decent, they're just not selling as well as they used to.

Remaking a loved game is easy money, hoping EA will greenlit a reboot/new game but sure they will just remake DS2 now
I played Heat and Payback and they are not decent, average at best. the new one is on gamepass and looks very cringe

So in an odd coincidence, all the QA staff who recently unionised were sacked. Looking forward to another top shelf product from EA’s BioWare.

What has an outside studio laying off their own staff after their contract with Bioware expired and they were no longer required got to do with EA and/or Bioware? Did anybody actually read the article past the headline of "Unionised QA workers sacked from Dragon Age" or was the opportunity to have an unwarranted crack at The Man too good to pass up?

You may recall BioWare also sacked 50 staff recently, including very senior writers.
Just because they have been outsourcing their QA doesn’t mean they aren’t involved, and just because a contract expires doesn’t mean it couldn’t normally move on to a new contract, unless you’re suggesting they suddenly don’t require QA at all.
At any rate, it just so happens, coincidentally, that the QA workers who unionised were all sacked when their contract wasn’t renewed, because BioWare coincidentally didn’t need QA anymore or, coincidentally, decided to go with non-union workers.

Yes and the article covers that, albeit briefly.
(Several BioWare employees laid off at that time are currently suing the company for “adequate severance.” These are two separate issues with two separate companies, however, despite being linked to Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.)
It also says that that Keywords are taking the position that there is no futher work for them. Were they let go for being unionised, probably. Is it right? Obviously not. But so what. If they'd been working on Generic Pixel Art Platformer #237 for Billy Nomates Developers Ltd. nobody would have given a shit, but tack on a big name to have a pop at instead and suddenly the world cares about the poor innocent workers and the big bad corporation that exploited them.
