Just because they have been outsourcing their QA doesn’t mean they aren’t involved, and just because a contract expires doesn’t mean it couldn’t normally move on to a new contract, unless you’re suggesting they suddenly don’t require QA at all. It's an outsourced QA company - the question would be whether they could have found any other work for that QA pool within their other contracts. If they were let go due to their unionisation, that obviously sucks, but the blame for that would fall squarely at the feet of the people that employ them - Keywords. Bioware aren't responsible for the actions of another company's leadership. Dreadwolf isn't near completion, so their need for outsourced QA will be small, and with the recent round of layoffs the project dates will have possibly shifted (this may covered somewhere, I've not read up on details). They will still have an in-house/EA QA pool at their disposal.

Based on how silent they have been I've been expecting 2025

Reveal summer 2024. So release probably in about a year.

How long has this game been in development for?! I know they changed it to a single player game midway through development after seeing the Anthem response but it feels like it's been in development hell for an age.

Due out this financial year, apparently (so sometime between now and March 31, 2025): www.ign.com/articles/dragon-age-dreadwolf-reportedly-due-out-this-financial-yearI absolutely loved Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and really enjoyed Inquisition, but I'm finding it hard to muster much enthusiasm for Dreadwolf. It sort of feels like a make-or-break release for BioWare, after Andromeda and Anthem, especially after yesterday's studio closure announcements.

Having a game so long in development and the last 2 games being a total trainwreck. Yeah, this studio needs this game to be a success or it's game over.

The release of Baldur's Gate 3 won't help at all - it's going to be judged directly against it.

That's my fear - Microsoft is (deservedly, in my view) copping a lot of flak for closing Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks, and EA isn't exactly shy when it comes to shutting their own studios at the drop of a hat. I'd hate for Dreadwolf to bomb, and EA to be like, "Hey, Phil - hold my beer." (I get the current-day BioWare has nothing in common with classic BioWare aside from the company name, but even so... it'd be sad to see them gone for good.)
EDIT: This was in response to Jambo, but yeah - BG3 set a *very* high bar for fantasy RPGs, and I don't see Dreadwolf getting close to it.

Looking forward to this and I think by Feb 2025 when it’s out they could have a nice little window with a slower 2024 ahead to capitalise on good sales.

Hopefully they don't flub it as badly as Inquisition, I've no idea how they thought it was a good idea. Fuck knows how it won awards.

Why do you all dislike Inquisition, my fellow Font Geeks?
Admittedly, I have no other experience with the Dragon Age series, but I liked it a lot.

To be honest I think the only really good game in the series is Origins, DA2 seemed to recycle everything in the game so much and Inquisition was like an MMO sensibly no one else was playing.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the Dragons Age games so far. Haven’t followed this much though and don’t know much about it, so fingers crossed they don’t fuck it up.

I liked Inquisition well enough at the time. But pretty soon afterwards I played Witcher 3, and that was the kind of game that made other things seem ever so much worse in retrospect.
I've a feeling that this new one is going to meet a similar sort of fate. But I hope it doesn't!

I played Inquisition recently. Before BG3 came out. It doesn't have the characterisation or writing of BG(any of them), Cyberpunk, The Witcher 3. Even the usual yknow romance stuff Bioware do had a strong just increasing a bar up.
Then the actual mechanics all felt quite shallow and MMO like. So lacks the crunchiness of BG3 or Origins or BG1/2 etc. but also once combat starts it's impossible to rebind the 8 hot keys on PC or access any of your other skills. Like it all had to run on a controller with a wheel binding... Can't even just pause and tweak things.
Oh and the camera angle was fucking useless. Couldn't zoom out and play more isometric.

I think I enjoyed all of the Dragon Ages in their own way, but found fault with them all.
Origins was the best of the three for me, even though it was incredibly janky. Felt almost cross gen between OG Xbox and 360.
DA2 was essentially a very rushed sequel and almost felt like DLC expanded to be a full game. The story was good, the characters were good. I liked the concept of jumping through time in one place rather than an expansive adventure, but too many repeating elements etc...
Inquisition does very much feel like they wanted to do an MMO, or at least capitalize on the success of WOW or something. Decent story, didn't much like many of the characters, but felt with at least the epilogue DLC they had enough in there to intrigue me further.
Still amazes me it's been ten years since the last one.
I agree with other people though, playing Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, BG3, the DA games don't really hold up. Hopefully they learned how a single player RPG should present itself in terms of story, characters and side quest writing.
Don't see much else in the single player RPG space coming up so here's hoping.

I perhaps should have mentioned I played Origins (and DA2) on PC so DA:O played pretty much like a Baldur's Gate.

I thought the melee combat in Inquisition was better than that of Skyrim and The Witcher 3.
TW3 had better writing, acting, world-building, and music (plus Gwent), while Skyrim had an indefinable sense of magic about it, but in sheer gameplay terms I preferred Inquisition.

It could be argued that Inquisition has better combat than TW3. Definitely better than Skyrim. Skyrim maybe had better world building, but no where near as strong a story, or least one that was likely to get lost. TW3 grounded it's story by really strong characters, never felt like I lost the thread of the story. Skyrim, something about a dragon voice/shout, maybe? Feel like Skyrim lost me by not having a decent nor memorable cast, if it had one at all. Inquisition had a characterization of the main character and a supporting cast, even if you didn't like them.

I think Dragon Age is done as a franchise for various reasons. Upon revisiting Origins and Inquisition last year I found them to be pretty mediocre, what really pushes them below the waterline though is the terrible writing, particularly character dialogue.
There's so much repellent, Joss Wheedon/Marvel Cape Shit style writing blemishing these games. It's intolerable, so many characters are just there as mouth pieces for the writers to do some smug, self satisfied snarking rather than being actual characters.
In their defence, it's a trend that slowly crept up on us since the late 90s. but now this type of writing has saturated practically everything, even some Japanese games, injected via localisation.
I'm avoiding everything that even has slight traces of this style now.

Think Grubb is still claiming something is getting released this year. Might be the supposed remake of the first?

It's the sort of title you'd think that had been forced on them for some legal reason as it's not at all memorable
