Seems a bit of a waste to remake a game that's already had a remaster.
Still, it'll sell a ton so what the fuck do I know.

Still not the same costs as a new game from scratch though, yet the price is. That's what annoys people. It very likely does rival the cost of a new game from scratch, just not necessarily a ND game from scratch. But as mentioned, ND don't set their pricing. I don't really see the issue of this being priced against a new game, in the same vein as the Bluepoint titles I mentioned earlier. It's no small feat. It's more deserving of it than the Remaster was, for sure. But obviously it's muddied by being "the 2nd remake" and the contention of £70 pricing is it's own argument.

Most people in the creative industries will say what you pay isn’t really anything to do with the ‘cost’ of the product. It’s about the value. What’s the value of the skill, craft, expertise etc that’s gone into the work? I think it’s probably fair for the consumer to think full price is a bit much for a remake, but at the same time if ND think the value of their work is full price then good luck to them imo.

Think it started off as a passion project by a couple of staff to port it to the new engine. The TV show almost definitely helped it become a full £70 release.

From what I read Sony mandated a another studio to do it, I think it was a separate Bend studio who weren't thrilled to do it because they wanted to do a completely new IP instead. I think it was then passed to another studio near Sony Santa Monica after that ND took it in house.

Wasn't the rumor that they were meant to use the HBO likenesses? Was surprised by the lack of sexy Pedro Pascal.

I played GTA V a lot, but in the end, I payed £9 for the remastered PS5 version because I'll likely play it again and it's got that big, open world to arse about in.
No matter how much they remaster TLoU, it's still going to be the same story. It IS a decent story, but I can't see myself wanting to play through it in an entirely linear fashion again even if it was a tenner, never mind for *scoff* full price.
Reimagine that.

I stand by my previous comments regarding The Last of Us and Uncharted. Sony need to (read that as must) have an editor babysitting the overly long stories. The quality of them is not in question, it’s just that Naughty Dog have got US TV series disease, they go on for far to long and start to become a chore, tainting your enjoyment of them.

I thought LOU1 was well judged. 2 was abysmal, much as I sort of appreciated having more game to play in a value for money sense, I thought I was at the end about 3 times before I actually was, if memory serves. I get that they wanted Ellie to lose everything (kinda resonates), but I dunno. DLC if you really must. I can't comment on Uncharted, however.

The first Last of us was OK The second was too long. For Uncharted 4, the last couple of sections were far too long

If any of the Uncharted series get close to TLoU2 then I'm firmly in your camp. Editors exist for a really, really good reason

It notable though that Naughty Dog games started getting too long after Amy Hennig left.

which is wild, cause she hasn't been allowed to complete a game since leaving ND

I have no complaints with the length of either of The Last of Us games - the more the merrier for me, I love the world, the enemies, the gameplay and the moment-to-moment scenes - it helps that I am more of a fan of more linear games though. Never felt bloated to me, I want backstory for these characters, and I love the way they made you see both sides of the story in the second game was very well done. More please I have always thought that if they blended the gameplay, crafting and combat from TLoU with the Fallout universe you'd have my perfect game (I'm probably a minority there though).

I really like TLOU and liked the sequel, albeit a little less. Certainly more than the Uncharted games anyway which are fun romps but not much more..
I do feel ND are slightly lacking in gameplay chops across the board though.

In the gameplay department, they're still very much stuck in the PS3 era. I loved Last of Us 2, more than the first game and probably more than the Uncharteds, but for me that has the be the last game with that formula they make. I'm not saying they should go open world, but they really need to evolve their game design in some way going forward.

I think they redid the performances. I could be wrong as I haven't been following the announcement closer than merely watching the trailer, but articles relating to it have had images of older than 2013 Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson in mocap suits. Can't remember them mentioning that in the Sony showcase (although could be wrong). They did mention that they've managed to get improved animations out of the existing facial captures, though. Probably just websites being lazy and using a TLOU2 mocap image. Yes, just went back and checked the video as I thought it was the mocap from the original they re-used, but they just mentioned the facial animations as being reused. I assume they took higher detailed capture than required originally or there is some fancy AI interpreting it to fill in gaps. Unclear whether they are mocapping other animations though. The fact they are specific to facial animation would suggest they have redone them. May not require Johnson and Baker for that though.

I've seen nothing to suggest they've been reshot so far, just reinterpreted the existing data with better tech, and probably hand-tweaked everything again, to produce a better result.

I’m glad they didn’t it was weird and bad looking enough when they gave Peter Parker a new more Tom Holland-ish face for Spiderman Mile Morales and that was for a character whose look is regularly changed and updated not a settled pair like these two.

It's the last of us part 1 I guess. You already know what you're getting, don't feel that it's worth 70 quid. But I guess putting an arbitrary value on your enjoyment of something is a completely different conversation.

The problem is that we're in a crisis regarding global warming, so Sony deciding to re-release a game, which is practically the same is an incredible waste of energy. I for one will not be purchasing and will be boycotting Sony in the future.
