Yeah thanks Junior, I did read that. Then went back to the game, and continued to find no reason not to put everything into Heart. It is at least worth it to get everything to 10, I think most/all(?) attributes have a first (very, very) soft cap at 10, but you get a lot of bang for your buck for the first few points you put in each attribute.

Now that I've finished ER, I'm tidying up RE8 and then planned Horizon 2, Ghost of Tsushima or Death Stranding. This thread is almost forcing me to switch to Nioh 2.

Well with H2, GoT, DS and Nioh 2, you won't need another game before the end of next year! Can't get into Horizon 2, but then the fist one took me 3 attempts in 5 years before I actually finished it!

First boss (Onroyki?) is bullying me
Is it worth sticking the healer blessing on to farm elixirs? I'm down to 4 of them and don't recall seeing any drop from enemies, just rewards from dusting loot

Go on then, new thread for the Niohs. Struggling with Enenra (second level in Nioh 2). Must have had upwards of 40 goes. Good thing it's pretty fun and I feel like I'm learning how to play better. I can reliably get his ki down to zero but this always seems to instantly trigger his dark realm switch, which as was said in the other thread seems harder. So in fact it seems I should avoid getting his ki to zero? This motherfucker D:

He is a bastard. He's killed me a billion times over the course of my playthroughs. Just settle in for a long fight and use water where possible. From memory there's water in the environment you can use as well.

Hmmm. I don't know if I did early on tbh. If I did it was probably just luck.
It's a long fight. Take your time and don't rush it. He doesn't give many openings.

Get him to crash into the four or five pillars around the room, then he gets covered in water and you can do some extra damage. I got there in the end but no idea how many attempts it took.

I'll be back on it on Tuesday. I've picked it as my holiday game (I'm off for a week after tomorrow and, being a lonely piece of shit, have to use a game as a holiday)

I beat both nioh games but for sure I found them so much harder than all from software games. Nioh 2 was excellent though, a big step up from 1.

They are and aren’t. Generally, I think they are harder. Enemies in the open world are more challenging and the bosses are probably a bit harder (than in dark souls. a lot of the bosses in Elden Ring are ridiculous) but given the gear and whatnot there is a bit more leeway to just brute force this if you want to.

Not many bruteforce options in the early parts from what I've found so far, but again I might be missing some substantial elements Yeah, the fact that some random trash mob will murder you in 3 hits outta nowhere is a pretty frequent source of sheer rage for me. I'm not of an age where I can laser focus throughout a 30minute level without fail anymore

Grinding levels and gear is a bit easier as there are sub-missions that seem designed for it and some combinations of gear allow you to become pretty OP fairly easily

Is the first one worth a play? It's on the PS+ Game Collection thingy and I'm in a masochistic mood.

The first one is really good but the second one is the perfected form, so I would always skip straight to that but for free, go for it.

Yeah the second one makes the first completely redundant, but for free and as a taster, it's very much worth it. It's still brilliant.

I didn't get that far in the second one (few bosses) but I don't think it had the level gimmicks the first game had, which is one of the reasons I stopped playing. The levels in the second game felt more formulaic to me. Without the gimmicks, I found it hard to tell the levels apart and one bled into the next, felt like a chore. Some pretty cool bosses in the first game. I think I preferred the combat without the interruption of burst counters or whatever they were called as well. In the second game I always felt like I was just pussyfooting around waiting for the counter in most fights, same with the bosses
It's possible I was just burnt out by that point though

The first one is a bit more cohesive in the design department and tells more straightforward story. The second one is a bit more dynasty warriors, jumping around time periods seemingly at random. But in terms of level design, a lot of them are excellent and better than the first.
Importantly, though, if a sequel is going to be a v1.5 rather than an actual sequel, it needs to absolutely nail it and I think Nioh 2 did. Pretty much everything is tightened up from the first one, niggles ironed out and the new systems are layered perfectly on top. If you were lukewarm on the series, N2 probably would look like a ripoff, tbh, but its a fantastic game in its own right.

I think I actually preferred the first one. The combat felt a bit more "pure". At times I felt Nioh 2 stacked on a bit too much bullshit.

It can get pretty overwhelming that's for sure. To be fair though I didn't use about 90% of the shit the game gave me, be it game mechanics or items.

I liked all the extra layers on top. They gave so much variety and flexibility for playstyles and builds. But, yeah, if you werent fully locked in, I can definitely see how it gets a bit much, especially if you just want to play the game and not micromanage your build constantly.

Sometimes I don't understand how things work out in these games... I fire Nioh 2 up after 3(?) years to test the cross-save option. It works! And here I am, fresh off having finished Wo Long, remembering precisely nothing about how Nioh plays (got a quick refresher with the tutorial option at the shrine but that's it)...
Right in front of the godforsaken Yatsu no Kami that stonewalled me for days on end before I finally just fizzled out. Might as well give it a try, right? I can barely block properly, what's the worst that could happen?
I smoked the bastard in a half hour.

It wasn't even a cheesy fight, I actually managed to fight it properly (well, as properly as I could given how long it's been, no cutting off the arms or anything), even managed to stagger it in the Dark Realm.
It got to the point where it had about a quarter of its health left but I was out of Elixirs... Then I remembered two things: one, I had firebombs set in the second shortcut wheel (good thing I remembered there even was a second shortcut wheel in the first place...) and two, as the Umi-Bozu taught me, items fucking matter in Nioh. Cue five firebombs in the bastard's face to finally put my grudge to rest \o/

So I've been on a bit of a Nioh 2 kick as I wait for Tears of the Kingdom and, uh... It may not have been an entirely voluntary decision to not continue the game until all DLC came out (fuck you very much Yatsu no Kami ) but it worked out decently because the fists are way too much fun, to the point where I think the most trouble I'll have going back to the first game (if I ever do) will be because neither of my main weapon types exist there Seriously, the animations are incredibly satisfying (making punching bags out of human enemies especially will never get old) and the things apply elements and ailments like nobody's business). About the only issue is that fists and switchglaives have basically no overlap in the stats they scale with, but I was going to level both Magic (Onmyo) and Dex (Ninjutsu) regardless of what weapon I used anyway and there's always the option to give Magic scaling to my fists' active skills (the bread and butter of their fighting style). Highly recommended
