He’s dead. That… was fucking great. Considering I fucked up so much initially that I’d used all my heals when he still had two thirds health. I barely got hit after. Got dicey at the end mind you and scraped by.
Best tip? Hold block. You can still attack dodge and deflect but it means any mis timed deflects get blocked. You don’t run out of spirit either as he puts enough easy deflection attacks in there for you to build your spirit up if you do fuck up.
Great stuff.

Also after a few tries you soon learn the red attacks and they become easy to deflect.

I still haven't used block which is mental and also, like an idiot, probably making the game much harder for myself.

I am on an absolute bastard side mission with a trio of absolute bastards. It's not bullshit-free, but I like the challenge (for now). I wonder if there's any skill/stat that let's enemies interrupt you less? I feel that everything these bastards do overrides *everything* but my basic attack.

It's one of the first metal (I think) spells and stops you flinching.

On the last chapter of Dead Space now and the demo is growing on me so I'll probably pick this up at the weekend. Two questions though, first is there plenty of variety in the actual melee combat (ignoring magic) as it feels a bit one note without any combos to unlock. And second are there any Raiden hats?

There is a sort of raiden hat from getting the lady companion to level 10.

I did that one last night and it was fire carpet time again. At each end of the map there are two places where you can bottleneck them. Run over to it and they bunch up, cast fire carpet, run to the other side of the map to the other choke point and restore qi, let them bunch up, fire carpet.... the fast one will catch you so parry him and cast your fastest spell, keep an eye on the slow one who constantly lobs fire pots.
They arent hard to fight one on one when you whittle them away but I found it absolutely impossible to keep track of them when they are all flying at you at once.

Not sure on the hats as I have mine turned off but I picked up some big samurai hat last night. Combos are not really a thing, yes sure there are some but it's not like nioh in that regard. You can string attacks together but it's been simplified since nioh, I actually prefer this now though.

And second are there any Raiden hats? 1) Yes and no. There are a load of weapons which have different move sets and they all have two different finishers rolled onto them, so there is a lot of variety. So all combat is Square, Square, Square [decision tree] dodge OR parry OR magic OR heavy attack OR special move. Its simultaneously more and less deep than Nioh. Its hard to explain. Its a *lot* more tactical as that decision is absolutely critical but it lacks the depth. You'll see when you play it. 2) Not yet

So is there a difference between heavy attack and martial arts? Both consume your spirit you've build. I haven't noticed anything.

I’d just like to take a moment to thank the random ninja who responded to my distress call last night and helped me finally take down that Lu Bu fucker.
You are my hero.

Yes.
Martial arts are tied to the weapon and you can can different ones on the same weapon. One such martial art is on the guding blade and it absolutely destroys enemy posture.
Re summoning; I think it's fucked on Xbox and pc. I have never had a single player answer one of mine.

Beat the next guy pretty easily, but it just took forever as the camera kept going mental and what you actually had to do to kill him was so poorly telegraphed.

The martial art on the spear you get from one of the companions turns you into a homing missile and ruins anyone that isn’t called Lu Bu.

If you have positive qi, heavy attack hits like a tank and doesnt lock you into a lengthy sequence like martial arts moves do. Again, its tactical, right? If you have positive qi its often worth cashing out on a heavy attack because a lot of big enemies will just fuck you if you launch into a multihit martial arts move.

Does it say anywhere what it actually does? I'm using a sabre with it's usual two moves. Both look cool but I can't see a difference in the result to the enemy then pressing heavy attack.

Yeah, plus it depends on the move itself. They are more situational. I've got one on this spear thing that ends on a long poke and if I get the timing right it's a deadly opening attack.

I dunno if this is true for all of them but the weapons ive seen seem to have one multi-hit, big combo and one dodge/move position martial art rolled onto them. The sword im using at the moment has one thats lots of stabby stabs and another which is one hit and then a backflip out of danger which is *super* useful.

Yeah I guess. One of mine is a spinning attack that shoots me back that can be handy mid combo if an enemy launches a red counter and I don't fancy the parry..

Oh damn. Must have missed some then. Generally I've found every flag and I feel on nearly every level I've found one of the flask upgrades. Not done the sub missions though but I'd assume they are only in main missions.

I dont think Ive 100%ed a main mission yet other than the first one. Some of the flags are ridiculously well hidden.

Exactly why I'm unapologetically using a guide for the missions, if not (yet) the bosses

Looks like I need to go back and do the side missions and especially the first one then!! Although I'm not sure I've ever really died because I've ran out of heals. It's been because I would have died before getting the heal or been at one hit before death and thinking "I've got this parry."
