Played the demo again now that I've learned you can continue from your save. Searched every nook and cranny, watched the cutscenes, hell, I even read the tutorial messages this time around. I am ready.
edit:
On a sidenote, while I haven't noticed any particular PS5 features, the DualSense feedback is so much better, but it's "free" on Gamepass, so SeriesX it is.

Some reviews up. Acg says it has elements of sekiro but not as good and elements of nioh 2 but not as good and overall definitely worth playing on game pass but wait for sale for everyone else as overall it's a disappointment coming from nioh 2. I'm going to really enjoy it I'm sure though but I'm not expecting it to beat either games mentioned.
Ign 8 saying again there are good elements from sekiro in the combat but it's not as good as sekiro combat. Yeah low 80s on metacritic which is obviously still very good average score.

Reviews are good so far. 82-84% on Metacritic depending on your platform. So when does this unlock on GamePass? I've had it pre-downloaded since it became available. Just need to beat the second phase of that boss.  |

The demo ends at the point of the first demo starting it seems. Got that fucking bird I couldn't kill in the first demo.

It has an 84 on opencritic now, Nioh 2 is a 85, so pretty much the same. I never really liked Sekiro, so it‘s not really a point of reference for me. Should maybe give it another try.

Something that is not so good is that you basically do fuck all damage to bosses when you are fighting them until you parry their red attacks enough to land the red circle hit on them. Wailing on them barely scratches their bar.
Just adds to me preferring doing the levels over the bosses.

Watched a YT review by FightinCowboy (whom I trust when it comes to Souls-like games) and he mentioned that you can have armour sets saved (battle sets they call them) complete with different character stats (apparently, you can easily re-spec), so trying out different builds can be fun.

My copy actually arrived today. Which never happens up here. Going to pop it on later on for quick burst. I've deliberately avoided much footage so not sure if the first level is the demo or not. It kind of seemed like it was.

Ha. Couldn’t kill that boss in the demo but melted him this time. I’m learning then. That’s a good sign. Feels good to be playing nioh again eh I mean Wo long. Sure guys. Wo Long. Wink. Not nioh. Totally different.

From the brief time I had with it yesterday, it feels like it had a bit of balancing from the demo, maybe? Combat felt a bit harder purely because the enemies seem a lot less likely to just yolo red attacks at you. That seemed to make the bosses more difficult just because it drags the fights out.

Had a brief spell this morning and killed the first boss of the second area. It's very satisfying being able to nail the deflections one after the other, and it's thankfully quite forgiving on that front. I'm still surprised how quickly I understood the whole spirit thing this time around. I genuinely couldn't get my head around it when I first played. Even the morale thing is making sense. It does have a bit of that Nioh "oh fuck I've mashed the wrong button combination again" thing going on but it's amazing that it does all click in to place quite quickly. Not quite sure what I want to do with this build yet so levelling quite evenly across three or four stats. Using a bit of magic too (The stone one that heightens defence is quite handy).

Struggled a bit with the fire boss so had a look online. There is a really easy cheese for him and beat him in one after that.
I was so close to beating him so many times and he would do that grab me in his chest move and kill me.
Keeping agility to a b is pretty much essential as well, makes it so much easier.
Also I'm finding weapons all the time and they are nowhere near as good as the one I'm using as it's +2. Makes it really hard to know if it's worth the trouble of upgrading as I don't know if it will be as good. Am I missing something there?

I think they might have yeah. I did the 4th (I think) boss last night and he did his red attack a sum total of once. Which is a bit mad considering that’s pretty much the only way to deal any kind of damage to bosses. In the end I beat him through spending an absolute age wailing on him and judicious use of the beast powers. That spell that boosts your beast power gauge build-up is a life saver. |

It did 'encourage' me to get better to kill the tiger and then the monkey thing. Build bar with light attacks and cash your meter out with a heavy attack to end the combo, martial arts or magic. In the demo I was just waiting to be attacked but got on the front foot a bit more last night.

To be fair, Nioh bosses were long drawn out affais as well, with regular attacks doing fuck all to them. I'm sure with this - like that - once you start properly upgrading shit, tweaking your build and leaning towards a particular direction, it will even the odds a little.
Maybe. Or I might just be talking shit.
This is proper fucking heresy but with this and now two Nioh games, I genuinely think that there is a true challenger to FROMs games for me. I may be going mad but I'm getting much more of a thrill with the combat here than I did with Elden Ring last year.
