Started last night, loving it so far and it looks gorgeous.
Just the type of game I needed to play at the minute.

I would have picked it up and moved it away from danger! (fully aware that it would probably just turn round and go bacK)

Damn, I was thinking of getting one of those hats as I thought they would be good for keeping the sun off. Didn't realise I was a Nazi

Let's not discuss the irony an article discussing the problematic nature of Orientalism from a western perspective, which is a fair point, published on a western site called Kotaku that absolutely fetishes Eastern culture.

I see where they’re coming from with the Asian-ness of a lot of cyberpunk content, and this game does have that kind of look to it, but I’m unsure about it being a place where Asian people aren’t represented because so far its an abandoned city and no people are present.
I’m willing to listen and learn though, I’m sure if it had been generically African or Middle Eastern it might feel more uncomfortable (Resi 5?). Maybe since this aesthetic isn’t just Asiany-cyberpunk but because all cyberpunk is a bit Asiany that it feels totally normal and didn’t register for me the nearly middle aged white western gut who just wanted a game with a dedicated meow button

I have said that yes it's an area that is problematic but, and this is just me mansplaining, but these articles are American centric, viewed with a very American focused lens and that lens has a very strange, and one may say overwhelming obsession with race for many valid reasons, but the issue is that the American lens seems to believe that its opinion can and should be applied everywhere and as a result can lack incredible nuance so you get these very broad, ill thought out thinkpieces that typically say "xyz has a problem, do better" but through ignorance or arrogance completely missing the context of their ire. Kotaku is one of the worst offenders of this.

I'm not going to lie, I just saw it as cyperpunk inspired rather than Asian inspired. I feel kind of stupid now that they point out rice paddy hats and The Walled City (I just read it as a walled city when playing the game, but that is likely also partly down to ignorance of Chinese history).
I can't make up my mind whether the fact it can go fairly unnoticed adds weight to Kotaku's argument or not.

I guess it's down to whether or not you feel that a game about a cat trying find its friends needs to include a commentary on Orientalism and the history of the Walled City.

Seems a bit like, game A is doing popular so let's write a controversial article to get the views. And the main b reaction to a lot of these articles should be "who cares?"
The purring during loading is such a nice touch, in a game full of nice touches.

My cat has been watching me play about as intently as she watches Springwatch. She seems a fan of the meow button in particular.
Unless its broadcasting problematic cat obscenities and she’s actually staring at it in deep frustration and resentment.

Aren't there lots of different hats in this? I only remember one robot with a point rice (paddy?) hat. There's a cowboy hat, a metal hat, a bucket hat, I dunno. There's even a hat shop.

Jesus I really need to stop reading American takes on appropriateness or their views on "problematic" things. They're always so stark and black and white it's just tedious.

Great to see credits that don’t have 500 names. I can see the studio getting scooped up by Sony.

Just finished and that was lovely. Just the right length, felt good to control and looked really great.
Managed to miss 3 memories in midtown some how, even though I felt like I searched fairly thoroughly. Also missed out on one during a chase sequence.

Your missed memories description is so close to mine I almost thought it was a quote of my post... Probably the same ones too.

It hasn't gripped me as much as others here. Got to midtown and found who I needed to, but just couldn't be bothered playing any more at that point. Midtown looks lovely of course, but meh... I'll probably finish it off this weekend but can't see me coming back for a plat.

7/10 game that I’d give an 8 on account of the style and atmosphere. Wouldn’t mind a sequel where they flesh out the gameplay a bit more. Definitely going to replay it though, got nowhere near getting all the memories, and I didn’t find that one robot’s keys in the factory.

Just finished it also, another one in the loved it camp.
5 hours total, but thought it was a joy from start to finish. In a world of 100 hour epics, was the perfect length.
I loved the visual style and characters, full of charm. Enjoyed the gameplay, exploration, stealth even thought the puzzles were great. And nothing really out stayed its welcome.
Will totally play it again, might even be the first time I platinum something.

I’ve still not had time to finish it yet but this guy is right about the Slums being a beautiful and alive feeling environment
I’d disagree with him that the Slums constitute an “open world” through, even a micro one. Its just an open environment and a million games have had those, especially since the 3d platformer boom of the late 90s.
Now where’s my playstation cat cosmetic patch to make this cat look like my cat.

I'll probably finish it off this weekend but can't see me coming back for a plat. Midtown was very Deus Ex I thought. And I do love Deus Ex. I was a bit surprised how short that section was. Felt like once you were through the sewers the zones all passed quite quickly. It was a good game though and that bit near the end when you curl up beside the busted drone. Maaate

Finished this the other day. Charming little game, nothing revolutionary but still different enough to be interesting.
Nice bit of story but needs more platforming and more big lunges.
It does look really lovely for a smaller game.

Same, more platforming and puzzles would’ve been good. Take advantage of the cat physics instead of doing fetch quests and running in circles to avoid getting headcrabbed as much

The sandbox is fun though, lining up physics objects along tbe edge of walls, being able to knock pool balls around and and other stuff was great.
Also eing able to knock over objects with your paw was so cool, and generally be able to annoy inhabitants with your cat behaviour was great.
I laughed so much at being able to get under the feet of walking robots and trip them up.
