Others have said it but mapping swipe down to turn 180 is pretty useful (as is auto pick up).

Definitely auto pickup. And it sensibly doesn't auto pick up health if you're on 100% too

About 7-8 hours in now and still not seeing it's greatness. I'm enjoying it though mainly because of the story and seeing where it's going. Mostly the issue is me as it seems to take a lot more for get me to really like a game these days especially it's a AAA type game. Just so far it feels like I'm just playing gow2018 for the 3rd time.

Didn’t you dislike Elden Ring too?

So I've finished GoW 2018, but really can't be arsed with the ravens, and got my arse handed to me by the Valkyries apart from two that I pretty much cheesed from the other side of the room... So I guess I'm pretty much done with it now seeing as I'm not that fussed about the plat. Cracking game, but the map is utterly shit for post-game cleanup!
Do I jump straight into this or give myself a bit of a breather first...

Why are there two bichii’s?
Is one good, the other evil?
I might wait for bichii3 to give the neutral bichii perspective.

I have found the pacing a bit all over the place about 8-9 hours in myself. I think the "you're off on a big main mission objective" parts need way more combat. The even mix of climbing, talking, fighting, puzzling works nicely during the free exploration parts. But when I'm on a big story parts ffs, please cool it with the squeeze through gap -> do a puzzle -> climb some stuff -> jump a thing -> do a puzzle -> squeeze through gap -> fight a grand total of 2 enemies -> repeat stuff? I want to fight things. Please. I am begging you. The plodding pace is cool in between, but when I'm in a 2 hour or so linear segment FFS turn the intensity up more often and for longer.

What the fuck is wrong with the compass when you're on a boat? Spins around all over the place.

Some of the HDR in this game is great. It’s the first time since having a PS5 and 4K TV that I’ve felt somewhat taken aback by the visuals. Specifically, the temple of light in Alfheim , with the well of souls pulsing bright light and the phosphorescent multicoloured rocks and walls. .

Marvelous... This seems to make my TV shit itself with a resolution not supported message (and random black screens before that)
Turned off 120fps and locked it to 2160p in the PS5 settings, but that's about all the troubleshooting I can be arsed with tonight.
/edit sacking off VRR did the trick.

I had to force 120 off in ps5 myself. I've a QLED 4k TV that offers everything modern but is 60hz at 4k and only 120 in 1080. This is the first game to spaz out when launching causing weird screen shenanigan. Thought it had broken my amp or TV at first but other games launched alright

Yeah, yeah. Rub it in. It still looks good in 1080. 😒😁
Exploration is opened up a bit now and I've found some go back later bits. Both in Alfheim, is all I'm saying. Fuckers.

So am I the only one who constantly forgets to retrieve my axe after each puzzle or battle in GoW Norsecock ?

Nope I often run into a battle after a puzzle on GoW StickOfRock and start swinging my axe around only to find I'm punching or tickling with the shield.

I'm pretty good at pulling the axe back when I've thrown it on GoW: DontPostCocks, tbh.
Mainly because I'm shit at aiming it in the first place.

Even though I've finished the first one twice I still spend a huge amount of time in this just throwing the axe as far as I can into the water so I can make it come back to me.

I often forget to call back the axe. Then, when I finally remember to do so, I amuse myself by thinking of how far it had to travel to reach me.

I kept meaning to try traveling to a different realm in the last one and then recall the axe just to test it.
It's just such an immensely satisfying mechanic. Absolutely love it.

I really enjoyed the section with Angrboda. The character interactions where good but my god I just wanted to kill the slow animal you were constantly made to use. Zzz.

Poxy feckin update again...I had one yesterday. I have always hated this with PS, seems to happen way more than on my Xbox. I have played last 3 days and each time I have had an update.

Very much enjoying Atreus explaining to the rest of the party (avoiding spoilers) why you've wandered off the path to the objective.
"My dad likes loot" that one especially got a laugh

The prolonged sessions where you're pissing about on the back of a yak and collecting fruit with that girl.
Fuck.
Off.

Polished it off tonight. I thought the journey was great, the character growth of everyone was superb and the throwbacks to the first game were excellent. The ending though was kind of an “eh”, it just sort of happens quite quickly and various parts don’t mesh together well, like how Surtrur ends up doing pretty much nothing, the mask turns out to be a pointless macguffin with no real explanation, and people you’ve barely interacted with nobly sacrifice themselves expecting high drama out of it. And the cliffhanger/spin-off ending was kind of annoying.
For the gameplay itself the big surprise was the spear. I thought it was shit when I first got it, but leveled up a bit, the charged R1 throw is super overpowered, especially against bosses. Stunlocks them and does follow up damage on detonation, I beat both Thor and Odin with that single move with little issue. Played on whatever the default difficulty was. Not sure I want to go mop up the side quests either, but I’ll give it some room to breathe and see how I feel.

Re GoW: JacksonPollock I started that bit yesterday, picked the fruit, looked at paintings, we are now back on the Yak, about to collect ? anyway when I started ps5 this morning before work (just in case another XXXX update!) I noticed that the boxes of information that are on the PS5 dash told me I have around 80 minutes still to do in this section!!
