They have been selling it at a tenner and giving it away for the last few years.
The evo numbers tell their own story. MK11 was pretty shit and this one needs to not be.

I actually really liked MK11, for what it's worth. But I'm still a sucker for the utter nonsense of the story modes/Krypt, and both the main campaign and Aftermath pretty much delivered on that front. No idea about the competitive scene, mind. Usually that's way above my meagre skillset.

Also, in typical 'things were better in my day' boomer mode, I really hope Sonya isn't just one of the Kameo's here. Could do with both her and Kano being the final two in the roster reveal.

Mk11 sold way more than any other fighting game (other than Smash bros) BUT it did drop off very hard after the last content drop. I believe the community were generally not very happy about it due to its slowness and it's general lack of freedom. MK1 seems to be even slower. It does have a massive casual audience who buy it for the campaign. |

I think they need to look at changing the campaign formula.
Switching from 1 character to another every 3 fights has gotten a little old.
I do in a way prefer the classic arcade style mode of picking 1 then getting a ending after you defeat the final opponent.

I mean, that’s always there if you want it too. I like the Netherrrealm ONE BIG MOVIE style, even if it makes me use characters I don’t like, because it shows me everyone’s side in one go.

Yeah I know the mode is available.
But the big story style mode they use for this and Injustice needs a rethink IMO. Not saying get rid of the story just change up how we play it.
Or just do another Shaolin Monks style story mode.

The story mode was fine. I think if they do what SF6 did and make it a create-a-monk mode, it will be spot on.
The issue was that micro transactions infested everything else and the core game was pretty bad. The variation system and loot box stuff were linked together and made the game itself just a pain in the arse.
MKX was better, just having three to pick from and being a bit faster and more flowing but MK11 was just fundamentally bad to play, even stuff like the combo break was bad.

I do love MK11, and the story mode was great, but fuck unlocking all the stupid armour pieces etc. I hated that part of it.
As for this, the roster looks great but I’m still not sold on the kameos

Oooo Reptile. Nice. I'm so torn on this. On one hand I cannot wait for it, but on the other I'm still pissed about the stupid Kameos intruding on my game. Has there been any news on if these are limited to certain modes and if you can actually just ignore them and have a proper 1vs1 fight?

Just realised this is out in two weeks. Plopped a pre order in. MK is one of the few games that I cannot miss an instalment of and have to get on release. It’s been that way since a young wide eyed wunty first clapped eyes on the original arcade machine at the local bowling alley. I’ll never be any good at it, but it’s Mortal Kombat. So it’s a no brainer, despite any reservations. Hell. I even played the game boy version of the original and that was horrible.

It's only going to get worse. Further ways to monetise full priced titles just seems inevitable, especially with subscription services like Game Pass.
The sad thing is that it seems now, a lot of gamers are far more accepting of shitty practices in general. I don't really see much backlash at all to things that some years back would have caused enough of a stir for the devs/pubs to rethink completely.
