Just fired it up quickly to see if it was all working, as I wont be able to play until the weekend.
First impression of the PC port? Genuinely inconceivable that we are back to 30 fps lock on menus and in-game fatalities/brutalities. Like, absolutely unbelievable stuff. Took them months (years?) to patch that for MK11 on PC, and then it ran flawlessly. Cannot fathom how they've let this regress again for MK1. Massive L straight out the gate (I also hear that the PC version isn't even acknowledged in the day one patch notes, lol).
Thankfully the rest seems to be pretty smooth. Looks gorgeous. Also appears to be running well at max settings on my aging 8700k/1080ti, though I'll need an extended session to ensure that holds up.

I think I might skip the pc version and grab the PS5 version on disc and just rinse the SP stuff and then move on.

I caved.
This is likely the biggest waste of money I'll put on games this year, as typically I just don't play fighters very much. But I'd like to, and the kampaign just looks so good that I wanted to play it.

I'm a sucker for a MK story mode and crypts, so I'll probably cave too. The next few months are ridiculously stacked though, so I should probably be sensible for once.
Shame there's no D'Vorah in this. Loved her gross insect related fatalities.

Got some time in this evening, eventually. The PC port FPS limitations aside (and it's annoying and tedious af), it's just fucking amazing. They've knocked it out the park with the story mode and environments again.
The actual gameplay when you're in the fights themselves has been flawless for me performance wise -- though I appreciate others are experiencing stutters and FPS drops etc. That being said, the jarring juxtaposition of 60FPS gameplay next to intro/outro/fatality screens set at 30FPS is a massive enthusiasm killer, borderline nausea-inducing. Meh. Expected better.
Reptile is a baller, mind.

49 quid on Xbox via cd keys if anyone is looking. I was looking at this the other day but have reached an age where VPNs and things may as well be neurosurgery Is there a way to use a free temporary VPN or is it only any good if you are signed up for an ongoing service? |

It's a UK code on cdkeys so no faffing needed. Just buy it and redeem on redeem.microsoft.com.
There are probably free VPN alternatives, but you'd only need them for cheapo Argentinian keys etc.

Yeah, it should be instant but it doesn't email the code to you. When you completed the order there should've been a get your key button, or just log back in and you should be able to grab it.

I’ve probably f@cked it then as I didn’t create an account, I just paypalled it as a guest. It did say it would be emailed to my account associated with PayPal.
EDIT - they have emailed the code, it came at half twelve a bit after I’d turned the lights off. Phew.

About 40% through the campaign now and I maintain that a) it's the best one yet and b) it would make a cracking TV series.
Also - The new Shang Tsung is the greatest character ever. I just love his sneering malevolence.
As to the mechanics themselves: I'm really happy how they've just stripped so much shit away. All those move set variations and crap, gone. Despite my reservations, I've done a complete U-turn on the kameos as well. They're great. Fighting is smooth and faster than MK11, and just feels really natural.

Yeah, Shangers is ace in this. Sindel is great too.
Pretty much everybody knocks it out of the park in fairness, apart from Megan Fox's Nitara. I found myself cringing every time she popped up and hoping she didn't have a line of dialogue.
Still not overly keen on invasions, though. I doubt it'll keep me playing like the Krypt in previous games has.

Finished the campaign last night. Definitely loses it towards the bonkers ending which sadly seemed to echo the poorer elements of previous iterations. Was still great fun though and I do still think overall it was the best campaign to date. Going to have a proper look at this invasions mode now.

I loved the craziness of the last bit. Dials it up to 11, which I guess I was just in the mood for. Although didn't particularly see the point of them rebooting and then jumping straight into a convoluted multiverse plot.
Some of the creations in the last chapter were hilarious, and you get different ones each time you play. Would love it if you could unlock some of them, especially the female versions of Sub Zero and Ermac. |

Skipped the spoiler but the story is really fun. Proper martial arts fantasy. Every now and then I get a fighting game urge and this will do for now.
Tekken 8 next I guess. Eventually Virtua Fighter 6 will get made and I can finally be happy.
