The wall camera patch should be pretty great too... Unfortunately I finished my playthrough last night, but I'll benefit from it on a potential DLC

The combat feels totally different. Like it's twice as fast or something.

Yeah the performance was much better when I played earlier

The downside of the patch is apparently fewer repeated encounters with the same pilgrim dogs.
Fare thee well, zestybaconbits!

The harry potter fight in this is so bad, they really could have skipped that one.

The harry potter fight in this is so bad, they really could have skipped that one. Which one was that again? The British twat that kept whooshing around on a boomstick? ...Come to think of it "Harry Potter" is very fitting as a nickname FWIW near the end I started being very cavalier with my buffing items (just like Nioh!), I basically had my second item wheel be just those (my first was both healing items and whatever element buffs I used). Probably helped mitigate some of the difficulty, although not having used them up to that point allowed me to have quite the stockpile

I will say though this is probably my favourite team ninja combat. The story and the open world stuff is barely average though. There are way too many characters in the game and it would be better if they died after you fought and defeated them to make it feel like you had some effect on the world rather than them get up and be your friend after.
I think they need to take this combat and get it into a linear experience and it will be great.
The gear system is arse in this as well, I don't even engage with it for the most part and it's all set to auto dissasmble. The transmig is fantastic though and more games should do it.
Very almost finished it now and it will end up being a decent 7/10 experience for me unless something drastic happens.

That's for me a bit harsh on the story. I've really enjoyed the absurd plethora of real historical characters and their varying agendas, ridiculous though it is at times. The silliness has been part of the fun. That said, you are dead right about the effect of decisions and interactions on the world though - when you get to Kyoto you start to realise just how pointless the whole faction thing is: it totally tries to have its スフレチーズケーキ and eat it, and it gets actively annoying having factions saying "well, if you change your mind, you know where to find us". I made up my mind you fuckers, how come there seem to be no consequences?

The actual bones of the story are ok and it's an interesting time in history, it's the delivery of it, it's an absolute shambles.

Yeah I've played both of them but I prefer the combat in this.
I don't want any magic and would prefer the enemies to be all human.

After the new patch I’ve been messing about more with different weapons and styles and I’ve found the move where you scream and run at the enemy like a desperate soldier in a movie, it’s fantastic.
I’m in the third area now and I think the character work is still really strong. The main plot still probably requires a bit too much prior knowledge but they at least make the moment to moment story entertaining. And of course the bit where you chop people up is still a lot of fun, especially now I’ve got all the glider and stealth upgrades.

All of the weapons I have used seem pretty good so far. The great sword has been an interesting change of pace. I think oxtail blade is my favourite overall.
Have done much with any of the spear or polearm weapons yet or the bayonet.

The naginata is a lot of fun, especially the Hayabusa style, but the bayonet is amazing. The charge attack is just shooting the enemy so it’s really easy to keep pressure on and the execution animations are really over the top. I also like the idea of using a rifle for close range and then another one when you pull L2 for ranged enemies.
Edit: thinking on, I think this is probably why I like Ronin a lot and didn’t end up getting on with Wo Long, even with one main attack button the different weapons and styles do a great job of feeling different even within weapons (say, Hayabusa and Ten’nen Rishin-Ryu for katana have such a different feel even though they’re both fast katana styles) and the way the game encourages you to experiment and move between them with the weakness system as well as picking up new moves with character story progress keeps the game more interesting.

Reached a point, unlocking the bayonet yesterday, that the head was properly swimming with the possibilities in combat and thinking of what to use. This game's amazing and Gonzo is best boi

Finished and platinumed - 85 hours in total. The return to Edo was a bit of a slog as there was a lot of samey bond missions to finish off but the wrap up of the story was satisfying.
By the time I got to the end I had all but three (related) trophies: save X guy in order by completing his bond missions, complete all bond missions, then get platinum for all trophies. I needed to go back in time and align myself as pro-shogunate in chapter two in order to get access to X guy's storyline. That seems to have been the only significant branching point in the narrative as far as I can tell, which sums up the game's biggest weakness: it really does not make the pro- and anti- anywhere near as meaningful or interesting as it could have done. A missed opportunity.
Still, it's a fantastic game. I really enjoyed the preposterous line it walked between fact and fiction.

Good news for the dev team. Can't imagine it means overall sales, but surpassed Niohs in the same timeframe

Think I'd be interested to know how Ronin sales compare to Wo Long's with the later being multi-format and on GamePass.
Edit: According to the report, Wo Long had over than 5 million (including GamePass) players, not too bad I presume.

Is it still installing maybe? It's a game which lets you start it a fair bit before the full install iirc. I never had significant noise on top of the usual PS5 coil whine and the disc spinning up once an hour to make sure I hadn't yanked it out with some tweezers or something.

Bouncing off this pretty hard at the moment. Just got to Yokohama and definitely going to persevere as the combat is great, but my god the open world is dull. Post prologue the first few missions have been: collect medicinal herbs, get a permit to enter a city, and take some pictures. It couldn't be more generic if it tried! Visually it is very dated, but not without a retro charm, very reminiscent of Ninja Gaiden, obviously.
If I can get a loadout that isn't garbage, an outfit that doesn't make me look completely insane, (only a couple of hours in and the amount of trash loot is, well the amount is a lot) and the game lets me fight more regularly I'll be a lot happier.

Pretty much the same place I am. I agree with what you say, it really can look like eurojank rpg, think Gothic, Risen, Elex etal. I am only playing on Dawn as I am shite at games (I have made peace with this ) so want to enjoy the story. I like that I could invite someone in to help me beat a Boss, I assume I can do this for all bosses ?

I would assume so. Also not experienced such a barrage of tutorial pop ups in quite some time!
Despite my grumblings I’m itching to get back to it.

Anyone know of a bug where you do not get the camera ? I completed the mission to get schematics, doing so rewards me with a prototype camera, which I did not get. I then go to the pleasure house and get a quest to take pictures, but I have no camera in my inventory ? I'm I doing something wrong ?

EDIT: Just in case anyone has the same problem, I reloaded a previous save...did lose 3 hours of progress, both in side missions and level mind you!

That's fucking annoying!
This game is sooooo 7/10. The combat is great (not quite Sekiro, but better, if fiddlier than GoT), but everything else is quite bad. One of the most boiler plate open worlds I've ever played. It wastes so much time at the start giving you a camera, glider and motion detector, the most generic boring items, in generic boring ways. Just start with them ffs. So much clutter in the systems, so much junk, janky traversal (you have a grappling hook but hardly any grapple points, and half the scenery isn't climbable), boring items, bland missions. If it calms down and just lets me fight stuff it'll be fine, it's very moreish, but it's worse than I was expecting and I had pretty low expectations.

Combat is damn good. So many styles.
The sabres are cooool.
For some reason it’s just clicked.switching weapons and styles mid combo is a lot of fun.
