Nice one. I've unlocked the other blacksmith so I'll go to the miserable sod the next time I boot it up.

Hit him in the face with a blessed mace!

You can cheese him if you want. If you put the thief's ring on before you go through the fog door, and then immediately stand still when you go through the fog door, you'll have time to work out your strategy, as he won't see you right at the entrance with that ring on.
See the ribcage in the top left corner of the room? Just near a pillar?
If you leggit over to that ribcage, and get behind it, he can't get behind it, and you can circle him with the ribcage separating each of you. Keep moving around and always get behind the ribcage if he manages to hit you. He'll eventually just walk back to his starting position and stand still. You can then let rip and he'll come bounding over again. Repeat the whole process.
Takes time and zero skill, but if you want him dead by any means, there you go.

Reject the cheese and do it properly!

His movement is pretty limited, you'll have him down after a few goes to work him out. Can get pretty hairy after he's at 50%, his aggression goes nuclear and he soends much less time dodging and repositioning himself in favour of FIREHULKSMASH, so watch your stamina

Cheers. I'll give him a few more tries, I barely have any heals... Where's the best place to farm? Collecting souls by killing enemies doesn't seem to reward many souls.

If you've got patches at the nexus then soul farming is always better, half moon grass is cheap as chips. The flayers in 3-1 are a decent target for souls if you can handle them quickly, otherwise use the blue eye knights at the end of 1-2
Eta: until the Reapers in 4-2

There's a miracle called evacuate that you can buy for 20,000 souls.
Sounds a lot, but once you get it, you won't look back. It's probably better used when you're comfortable taking out the skeletons in world 4. When you get to access 4-2, there's a really good routine that ends with you evacuating back to the Nexus with a ton of souls.
Before then though, I used to just warp to various archstones and take out goons that always drop grass. 1-2, for example, then turn around and go backwards to the blue eyed knights there.
Also, depending on your plan for phalanxs boss soul, you could always consume that. And tower knights too, IF you don't want the weapons they can create, that is.

There's a miracle called evacuate that you can buy for 20,000 souls. Faith requirement is really low iirc, like 10 faith? So worth getting on any chatacter that can spare the attunement slots. Although, now that you can respawn the world just by touching the archstone I'm not so sure now, or was that always a thing?

Always a thing.
Evacuate I find has 2 uses, 1) "fuck, I've fucked up, I need to get the hell out of here", 2) "that was a good farming run, right, back to the Nexus and do it again"

It was only useful in the OG for the glitch. Save your 20k and just kill everything you see THEN go back the Nexus

Not if you want to farm quickly
Hang on, what glitch?

Did you have to go back to the Nexus, then back to the world from the archstone to get it reset? (Involving hellish load times) I'm thinking in very narrow terms, specifically the 4-2 single Reaper farm

Not if you want to farm quickly Hang on, what glitch? The dupe glitch, it was needed for that. Probably why it’s prohibitively expensive at the start. FROM seems to think of most things

Then I think for 4-2 just running back is almost the same as evac'ing. You just select the same level at the archstone and it resets instantly
Still a damn handy miracle if you're in too deep an running out of grass

Yeah true, it's probably as broad as it's long. It's just the way I did it.
However, I fondly remember being absolutely fucked in 5-2, and we know what that's like, where evacuate saved my bacon quite a few times

I’d just kill a boss and fight my way from one archstone to the other if I was farming stuff. 4-1 is dead easy and it’s heavy on souls

4-1 maybe, but 4-2 has a few banana skins up its sleeves

Ugh 5-2 can do one, it's easily the main reason I'm hooked on Ghost of Tsushima instead. Those Giant Depraveds hit like trucks and aggro while you're 100m away from land. I'll get back to it shortly. Any volunteers to get sacrificed for the pvp trophy? I don't pvp anymore because it always felt like a dick move.

I thought I had a handle on everything until these bastards. I'm likely to end up cheesing them with a bow and thief's ring, because a magic build (no tower shield) in that swamp has little other option
