Hmm, working through the Sunken Valley but struggling with the Guardian Ape. I can't seem to get the deflect timing right, his attacks seem to have a huge windup, so I'm always too early/late There was also a bit with about 20 monkeys crowded around just before the boss - the PS5 frame rate took a huge dip when I jumped into them with the firecracker and set about slaughtering them all - the base PS4 must have completely bombed at that point! Guardian ape is a bitch for most people on their first go. Has quite a few different combo and grabs to work out!

Tried to go no damage Vs owl father first attempt! Not good enough but it went pretty well as seen except I got hit 2-3 times in a couple of seconds mid fight but again like ape I refuse to heal (or use mortal draw)!! Second phase was the same except I healed twice. Once right at the start as I was still low then stupidly I got caught by the teleporting slam! Ping, ding, ding, ping, ping, ding. Gotta love the sound of steel on steel in this. Great work Bichii 😁

I’ve officially given up on this. Absolutely love it but can’t get past the lightning fella on the roof (can get him to lightning mode ok, but after that get nuked). I love exploring the world of the game but don’t particularly enjoy the bosses, and don’t have the time to fight them again and again until my muscle memory clicks. Would gladly pay for a DLC item that allows you to skip bosses

Yeah I thought it would be interesting if Hanbei had some sort of option to use a bosses moveset - to let you quickly practice against rather than having to grind past enemies etc to get to a boss (although a lot of them have save points very close by), especially bosses with multiple phases

Guardian Ape is down! Took about an hour of practice, but then had one of those runs where everything clicked into place. Got grabbed and thrown once in the first phase, then in the second phase the only damage I took was from the terror AoE attack that I can never quite back away from quickly enough and always take a little chip.
Sneaked past the serpent to get the dried viscera, and now plodding through the token FROM SOFTWARE poison area (sigh)

DudeJoe Nice work! My boy also managed to get past him last night after a couple of evenings at him. I recall him being quite the roadblock for me so I'm not looking forward to him when I eventually get there. Although I've not been back on it since killing butterfly, I have been looking through my lovely futurepress book so I'm gearing myself up to get back to it. One thing I'm going to try, is that I didn't actually realise that I could get all the way to the hidden village and corrupted monk - therefore getting the underwater technique - before even fighting Genichiro, it also spawns different enemies doing it this way as well. Hmm. Tempted to try this route first. Think the blazing bull is up next.

Yeah some phantom enemies spawn. When it first happened to me I was taken by surprise as I'd probably completed it five times and suddenly there were new enemies!
My son can't get into dark souls 3 after completing sekiro. Finding it slow and boring. Told him to give it more time and he'll grow to love that as well I'm sure.

Yeah I'm not sure how mine will cope going back to them. He's already declared Sekiro as the best FROM game ever.
Curious about Elden Ring. I have the feeling it'll be like Souls but with the speed of Sekiro. If that's the case, think it will be quite something.

Did you try that on NG or one of the plusses? I'm half tempted to stick to what I know, do Genichiro first and only go to Mibu Village much later. But then it's not like the village itself is actually hard. Hardest part getting there is getting past Snake Eyes in the poison pool area anyway and apparently if I do the pre-Genichiro, there's no cannon guys.
Fuck it. I'm going that way.

Yeah strangely the village is maybe the easiest part of the game but can often be a later game area depends which way you go. Always love fighting o'rin with the daggers . Clearly the kids know best if they both think sekiro is best... How old is yours? Mine is 9 very soon and keeps asking to play Bloodborne but I'm reluctant to let him. I turned off blood in sekiro.

He's 11 and probably played BB when he was 10 after rinsing the souls games first (which he started at 9). He didn't have a problem with it. It's all context isn't it. It's beasts and cosmic shit.

If it helps, my parents didn't care what I played or watched as a kid and I turned out really weird
Even without the blood, you're still stabbing people to death with a sword. Aside from the copious amounts of blood, in Bloodborne you're mostly killing mosters, who don't have feelings or matter

My daughters are 11 and 8, and I think they'd have nightmares from the blood/gore/monsters if they played soulsborne/sekiro! Perhaps they're a bit sheltered, but they just want to play Minecraft and Roblox, maybe the odd dabble in Spiderman/Ratchet on the PlayStation is as complex as they'll go

To be fair my boy is quite sensitive and there's a lot of stuff he doesn't like. I gauged if he was ready for this type of thing and I'm happy that it's not having any adverse effect on him as he knows it's just a video game. He watched Lord of the Rings a few years ago with me and the FROM stuff isn't far removed from that in tone etc. All his mates at school watch the likes of IT and crazy violent films and shit and he doesn't do that. They also play GTAV which is a massive no no from me. Killing monsters in a fantasy setting is one thing, going to strip clubs and running over innocent people in a pickup is something else entirely.

Yeah, the fantasy setting definitely makes it a bit more palatable. I was actually thinking of watching LOTR with them the other day (The tensest fantasy they've watched so far is Harry Potter) Totally agree on the GTA thing - I feel the same about COD and other games that are a bit too lifelike. I remember as a kid being desperate to watch Robocop around the age of 8/9 as friends had seen it, and my Dad wouldn't let me - because of the language. Apparently couldn't care less about the violence. Ah, the 80s

In many ways I treat my kids like they are much older when it comes to things like conversations and their behaviour but when it comes to movies, games and foods etc I'm pretty strict. Sekiro is by far the worst game I've let him play and when the blood is off it's not that bad really. Bloodborne is basically a full on horror game so I think I won't let him play it yet.

I honestly think even minus the blood, Sekiro is more violent than Bloodborne. Being semi historical in setting also grounds it into reality a little more as well. But you've got to do what feels right so it's the correct call either way.

Funny how we all see these things differently. For me sekiro, sure you execute enemies with your sword, but for most of the time it's not dark violence etc. It's ninja sword fighting and most of the enemies are normal ish except a few enemies and bosses like headless.
Bloodborne is fucked up, blood and terror everywhere. Dead bodies in the walls. Screams. Babies crying. Women with bleeding stomaches. Enemies that suck your brains. Grotesque monsters that slaughter you in various ways. Enemies hiding in the darkness. Bosses that are intentionally designed to be things of nightmares. It's pure horror.

The real issue is at what age do you start exposing them to FG. The only way we're getting new members is to breed them bichii to be fair to him, you probably set him on the wrong path starting with Sekiro. It's their most different and divisive game. Probably better off getting him on something like Nioh, Ninja Gaiden or DMC (which you might also like)

bichii yeah that's what I meant by it all being relative. My boy disassociates himself from that and in his mind it's firmly in "fantasy". I remember being his age and being obsessed with Warhammer, specifically the chaos stuff. Even more specifically the plaguebearers and shit. I loved it. All that diseased gore, infected rotting dead things. I was right into black and death metal at 10 / 11 as well. Boys innit. We love that shit. Yet I'll literally cry if I accidentally stand on a snail. I can't even kill a fly, I have to usher it out the house. I worry more about the CoD's and GTA's out there far more than this stuff. That teaches you it's okay to run over a hooker or shoot innocent people in an airport.

Blazing bull down first try, Seven Spears down third try, rinsed the nightjars on the roof of the castle, unlocked the second idol in at Senpou Temple. A good mornings work. Next session will be the lone shadow before the other entrance to the dungeon from the starting area then off to the depths I think. Turns out I love this game now. Who would have thought it. Now I'm actually playing it how I'm meant to, and not - as in the case of my first playthrough - like Bloodborne. I think I've only properly died about 6 or 7 times as well, which is crazy.

Even if I played it again I don't think I'd love it. It's clearly a very good game, the whole environment and theme is awesome and the combat is excellent (although I prefer Dark Souls combat)
It's just missing some of the elements that elevated Dark Souls to the "Greatest Game of all Time" for me

I'm not very sure how it will go to be honest, but I fought the one at Hirata a fair bit and THINK I know how best to tackle him. Pretty sure I can mikiri counter his leg thrust kick? Any other tips? From what I've read in my little book here, I need to focus on bringing his vitality down first (thinking charged R1 thrusts at safe times and some oil / flame vent combo) and then I can get stuck into his posture more.
I was so happy to burn through the nightjars the way I did. Had real problems before but it's amazing what actual blocking and deflecting does coupled with a swift shuriken and chasing slice. I'm a right Jonny Confidence now. Even that General guy on the steps surrounded by riflemen went down like a sack of boiled cabbage.
