I specifically chose parts with no lighting. My Powercolor 6600 XT Hellhound is the only one with a white LED, but luckily it could be disabled.
Also, that looks like a good motherboard. I'm so cheap, I bought a mobo with no wifi and a single PCI-E 1x that obviously sits right beneath any dual-slot GPU (ie. all of them). So I had to pay extra for a wifi card and a PCI-E riser. Clearly I didn't think this through back then, when I still had ethernet. Don't be like me, people.

With my current build I *though* I got parts without any lights but when I put it together fucking thing light up like a Christmas tree tripping balls. I freely admit I wasn't paying that much attention to the parts I was buying. CBA with the usual pc gamer stuff of obsessing over parts.
Anyway, point it is it's really bloody hard to *not" buy all that RGB bullshit.

The bloody *fans* had lights in them, for god's sake. Fans. With lights. When did that become a thing? Why?

I've started a gofundme to get Derblington a white kettle lead.

I've started a gofundme to get Derblington a white kettle lead. Already on it. White monitors are harder.

Also dislike the whole LED disco thing, with the exception of keyboards where it at least serves somewhat of a purpose (but I turned off the flashy stuff real quick). Rather dislike "gaming" aesthetics in general. And the damn names of things - it's a feaking computer mouse, calling it "hyper omega sonic giga stealth nuclear warhead jet woosh bang missile 360 noscope hotsauce tarantula" is a bit silly.
Try to keep my PC a boring black box. It has one of those window things, but the only lights are actual indicator LEDs.

I did used to be all anti-RGB stuff, but I've slightly caved into it now. I do think some lighting going on is quite nice, although I'll go for something static over flashing rainbow colours going on. It is nice how some games use my Razer keyboard to light up specific keys and what-not, even if it is a bit pointless seeing as I'm not really looking at the keyboard.

Only my GPU is lit up, but it’s an FE, I don’t think you can turn it off.

I put a LED strip in mine yonks ago for the lols. Briefly had it set to change colour based on temp sensors, but it looked rubbish and I just never got around to taking it out. The brown NH-D15 especially looks awful if it's lit up by anything other than 100% R, G or B.
Think that's my project for the weekend. Get everything as dark as possible.

What RGB I left switched on is all static and set to one colour. Turned off about half of what I could.

New graphics card, very vroom-vroom. I don't really have any games that would push it though, and nothing with that fancy-pants ray tracing (except Minecraft I guess, but that's not quite what I'm looking for). I'll be getting Cyberpunk, but it's on sale so often it would be a little silly paying full price out of impatience.
So, any other suggestions for newer shiny games to try?

Remedy’s games usually push hardware.

If you have GamePass then Control Ultimate Edition is on there now. That has some lovely RT in it.

Forza Horizon 5 is 50% off on Steam right now, and it looks absolutely beautiful with everything maxed.

I’d get Portal for €10 if you don’t already have it and download the Portal RTX dlc for free. Also a nice test for dlss3 frame gen, which it absolutely needs.

Or get the orange box because I think HL2 RTX is not far off.

There’s also Quake 2 RTX if you’re just talking about Ray-Tracing mods for old games. I figured he wanted something heavier though if he was using Cyberpunk as the reference.

Remedy was a good shout, I’d pick Control over Alan Wake 2. Jedi Survivor still runs like crap, but if you want good looking pixels, that’d be my pick. Portal if you want a cheap game to test it out. It’s plenty heavy btw.

Control does look lovely, and I own Portal (who doesn't?), so I'll give those a look. Forza looks very shiny, but sadly I'm not very excited by cars.

I would say Alan Wake 2 is the best graphical showcase around at the moment. Control looks good, but AW2 really is a next gen game. Having said that the game itself is divisive. I liked it a lot, but get why others might have found it tedious.
Cyberpunk is probably the next best shout.
I've been playing The Talos Principle 2 recently and that uses Unreal 5 to great effect, particularly when you get into the main body of the game. Well worth checking out for the shinies and if you like your puzzle games

Can somebody please cast an eye over this and see if I've made any glaring errors uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/x4QZKXFriend and son have spec'd up a similar looking build but with a zen 3 Ryzen 5 and, 32gb ddr4 @ 3200mhz and 4060 for £1379 via AWD.it

Looks nice. I went with similar but 7800x3d in November for around 100 more. My case was cheaper and went with black theme and non RGB stuff.
Perhaps 2TB SSD, or and extra 1TB might be worthwhile unless there is existing to repurpose and drop in.

Looks good. 2TB would be ideal, but the mobo has 3 m2 slots, so can always add extra another time (assuming there isn't existing drives going in).

Thanks all. Initial budget was 1k so I spec'd them a decent zen 3 build with 3060 and gave them some knowledge. They've taken that in the interrim and upped the budget to 1.4k with a pre built.
I just felt they were spaffing that extra budget on a 4060 and the build cost rather than genuinely better parts.

Plenty of scope for storage slots on this board

As established a couple of pages back I'm pretty hardware illiterate these days, but for what it's worth it's more or less the same specs as what I built last year, apart from going for a 7800x3d and making do with my crusty old graphics card until now.
From what little testing I've done with the 4070 Super the GPU still works harder than the CPU, except when the frame rates are so ludicrously high that it doesn't matter anyway. So I can't imagine the 7600x would be a limitation for games, and even less so at higher resolutions (I'm on 1080 still).
Storage is so easy to add later on that I wouldn't worry about it at all. Spending the budget on stuff that matters immediately seems much wiser.
