SpellDrifter free on Epic (seems like a CCG meets tactical RPG. Never heard of it) Next week is 911 Operator, which is a kind of game I've never played.

Requiem: Avenging Angel is free on GOG.
I loved this back in the day, despite it being janky as heck. It was one of those great 7/10 FPS games like monolith used to specialize in (Shogo, etc..)
It's a basic FPS, but because you're an angel you get cool powers to go along with the guns. Shields, boiling people's blood, turning them into salt, etc.. (a bit like force powers in Jedi Knight) But the best thing is that one of those powers is effectively Bullet Time. AFAIK it was the first game to feature Bullet Time, and it was awesome.
None of those things are as fresh as they were at the time, but for anyone who's ok with retro games it's worth grabbing.

Oh man. I remember salting the bad guys. Such a great game!
Wasn’t it also one of the first to have more detailed shadows too!

Played some Requiem, and my word, it is one ugly-looking game. Some of the ugliest visuals I've ever seen. You could argue it's a staple of late 90's games, but then I could tell you that Quake 2, Unreal, Half-Life and many others are so much more pleasing to the eyes even now. It's not so bad though. You sure die quickly. It reminds me of Shogo in some ways, but enemies seem to take too long to kill in comparison. We'll see how it evolves. Tip: you don't want to play Chaser. It's... irritating. Looks good, but there isn't much more than that. I managed to get halfway through the game (which took a while, because it's quite lengthy for a shooter) before deciding that I wasn't going to put up with its bullshit anymore.

I don't remember Requiem looking particularly bad at the time, but I agree that the screenshots didn't look like it had aged as well as most of the other games you mentioned.
Maybe the enemies take a while to die to factor in once you have all the powers?
The main thing I remember, other than the bullet time and powers and the first level being inside some kind of colon, is that the enemies couldn't jump/climb so they'd just kinda teleport when that was needed, which was really weird.

Shogo was my first purchase together with sacrifice on gog to replay it again since release.
It was such brilliant game with little jank. But it was story focussed, with character development, nice twist in last 3rd of the game and just big robots stomping on people.
Wish they remade it.
Never really played requiem so I guess now I gotta

Couldn't get Shogo to work properly unfortunately. Requiem was interesting. Pretty deadly for sure, but it also gave the player quite a few options to play around with. From what I remember there were some dual-wielding gunners that would deplete the health of the player in seconds. I just relied on shooting grenades around corners in the earlier parts of the game. The last two bossfights were a bit on the annoying side. Chaser is too long, has quite a few levels with tons of Trial-and-Error and some impressive scale. Good soundtrack and decent atmosphere at times, but half of the time the size of levels just feels like the developers couldn't bring themselves to cut a lot of it.
" Nomads of Driftland is an RTS game initially created as an add-on to Driftland: The Magic Revival. Since it is significantly different from the base game, we decided to release it as a standalone expansion and make it available for free."

My only real disappointment with Shogo at the time was that the Mech stages felt a bit too similar to the on-foot stages. I guess that was partly down to the limitations of the tech/genre at the time. Titanfall 2 did the same mix of mech and on-foot combat, but did a better job of differentiating the two imho. It's a very long time since I played Requiem, but I have no memories of it being especially difficult or frustrating compared to other FPS at the time. In those days I would have been a lot less sensitive to frustrations though. Didn't it have a directional shield power? I think you had to use that plus bullet time a lot to overcome larger groups of enemies. Or maybe just quicksave A LOT, which was common at the time. I bought Sacrifice back when gog was just starting up, but have never actually played it

I bought Sacrifice back when gog was just starting up, but have never actually played it I haven't played it in 15 years. Since late 2008 when gog was launched. But was that game ahead of time 4 gods. You can take mission from any of them, each give you different powers which shape your playstyle, synergies and I think affects story to some extent. Great voice acting, humor, and unique playstyle with souls harvesting I have never beaten it to my regret. One day.... But you should check it out

I bought a whole load of old games when GOG launched as I wanted them to succeed. I'm not sure I ever played much of any of them. I started Fallout 1 but didn't get that far. I tried Descent 3 but it didn't really grab me. I tried Freespace 1/2 and decided I needed to wait until I got a proper joystick, which I never did. And then all these new games kept coming out! (says the person currently playing Walking Dead 1, Jedi Knight, Doom 1 and Quake )

But you should check it out The rule for Sacrifice is to just remember that the Guardian spell (i.e. binding one of your units to a ressource generator) is overpowered and will get you out of some hairy situations. Other than that just use op spells and perhaps ranged units more than melee units.
But yeah, it's very good and I don't think there is anything out there that is quite like this. A bit difficult to get used to because of real time plus the unusual control scheme.
Same story for me with the Freespaces. I will likely never replay them unless I decide to replace the joystick that broke many years ago.

They do appear to have controller support these days. Guides are hard to come by and the first reply is always "Get an expensive joystick newb" stuff but it's listed.

Yeah, but they just aren't as much fun with a controller. You can't put your full body into it and roll around in your chair like a loon.

I wish they'd done the whole thing in the art style of the menu screen.

Ahhh. Kingpin. Main game I used to do LAN parties for at uni. Friend made us skins that contained our photos and Nike track suits that said “just did it” 🤣

I think I have played a good chunk of it two times. The arsenal and setting were interesting and it has a decent atmosphere, but there was always a point where it started to be increasingly annoying to play. Not quite sure why. Weren't there some skeletons that would resurrect or perhaps resist damage more than other enemies?

To be honest the gameplay could have been utter dogshit, but the atmosphere was super-memorable. I can remember positioning my tiny creative labs surround cubes around me in the office to get the maximum effect

I think I played Undying a bit too late. It was still good, but by that point the graphics weren't doing the atmosphere any favors.
