Why even address school shootings at an NRA conference? I thought there was no link to guns?

Can we cover our children in bulletproof paint? Can I interest you in something lead based. Lead repels lead as we all know. Just dip your tyke in this and oui-la! No more bullets, just glorious art.

There you go, the argument is now dead, just like all those kids.

"Mr Hazelett said it is not yet clear how Butler obtained the weapon" in a country where anyone can walk into a supermarket and buy a gun.

An ED-209 in every school should sort it.

It was on the news again this morning and I realised I stopped listening out of apathy. Nothing will get done, so why keep reporting with faux outrage?

"Mr Hazelett said it is not yet clear how Butler obtained the weapon" in a country where anyone can walk into a supermarket and buy a gun. "Who needs background checks? We can't restrict the rights of good citizens just because a person with a known history of regular violence and anti social behaviour might get a battfield-worthy weapon system!" Etc. The whole "good guy with a gun" argument also completely fails to take into account what it does to a person to take a life.

Not to mention at least a couple kids that bring a pellet gun to school are going to get shot by a trigger happy security guard. It’s awful to say it, but the only thing that is going to change enough minds is if they’d have a bunch of copycats in short succession. The position of guns are alright in the right hands needs to become indefensible.

The only thing that can stop a bad 13 year old with a gun is a good 13 year old with a gun

It does seem mental how little they're prepared to budge. No one is saying get rid of all gun ownership rights, just maybe make it a little harder for anyone old lunatic to get one immediately.

I've got a mate who moved to LA. I still don't know why he did that.
A cousin of mine moved to Virginia in his early 20s, he was working at Virginia Tech when 32 people were gunned down in 2007. He's still living there now, raising a young family... if that wasn't enough to bail, I don't know what is. He has developed a weird American twang to his accent though (he was a bog standard Brit when he left these shores), so I think perhaps he's a lost cause.

I guess you can normalise anything.
I was thinking to myself today if school teachers now need to view gun violence as an occupational hazard. Do they need/do training and drills for example?
Workplaces do fire drills all the time.

Jesus. What a fucking dumpster fire of a country.
You couldn't pay me enough to be a teacher in the UK, let alone if you add the recognised risk of "responding to an active fire fight" to my list of stat man training.

I’m currently in New York for my 40th.
On the 24th we went to go and see the baseball at the Yankees stadium. Right before the game they put a message on the big screen and said “hopes and prayers for the victims of todays attack in Texas”
Then about a 5 second pause, I didn’t hear anyone talking about it in the crowd and then they all got up and sung the national anthem with music followed by loud cheers for the baseball. I found this very disturbing and fucked up. It’s just normality
