Thoughts and prayers. Now is not the time to talk about gun control.

Yikes, "bro"
Apparently some kids knew he was going to do this

The comments suggest that was actually the shooter outside the door. Brave kids, but itβs all so fucked up

I thought I was used to all this, but that video managed to bring me to tears. What a fucked up world.

The US is raising a generation of traumatised children, that's horrifying If only it were merely a generation. This was yesterday. Sandy Hook was 2012. Columbine was 99. Pearl Jam made Jeremy in 92, which means there was an event that inspired it. Growing up in the US, this has been both terrifying and unfortunately normal for me.

I read an article about the active shooter drills that schools in the us do. That alone would be enough to traumatise anyone. So fucking sad.

The cunt father of the shooter apparently purchased the gun 4 days ago. I did wonder why the parents told the kid to say nothing and immediately lawyered up.

Remember, you can't say 'freedom' without saying 'schoolkids shooting each other dead is worth it.'

Presumably handguns come with a card for a local 'so your kid murdered his classmates with you gun' lawyer, save having to google.
Only 2nd story on CNN and Fox, no biggy, didn't even make double figures. They can argue in court about what the bare minimum for a 'rampage' is.

I imagine the shooter will say he feared for his life and shot everyone in self defense.

I imagine the shooter will say he feared for his life and shot everyone in self defense. Yeah I was just thinking, why should this guy end up behind bars when Kyle get a photo op with Trump? They need to do something about their fucked up culture. All in all it's a good thing if this doesn't get the hero worship coverage the shooters usually crave. But a country that gushes over Ritehowsurtreheyser's really shouldn't be surprised to see horrible acts like this. It's not just the easy access to guns that's at fault here.

The most eye opening part of Eighth Grade (Bo Burnham film) was the part where they have to do active shooter drills. I'd heard of them, but didn't realise this happens in all schools in America now.

At one point moving to the US was an option for us. When it came down to deciding if we really wanted to pursue it more seriously the fact that there is a chance, albeit a slim one, that some sick fuck could mow down my child's class room. That was a deal breaker.

I wouldn't rven say it's that slim, this is the 28th school shooting this year.

When even the fact that active shooter drills are required in schools doesn't prompt any change, hardly seems worth paying attention. 'Shock' and 'tragedy' simply don't apply, it's just a price of doing business. And long term it's good, they will all grow up wanting guns of their own, like every good American.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh saaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy-aaayyyyy-ayyyy ...

I think if they retrospectively wiped any shooters from all forms of social media and did not mention any details of them in the normal media, then it might go some way to making these people think twice. A lot of them just seem to be wanting the attention they end up getting.
However, in a country that can't even stop kids getting hold of guns, there's no chance of them doing anything.

Insane. Drilled to create a barricade, know the escape point and route, run towards a cop with with a fucking assault rifle.
That's not at all traumatising.

And sometimes the murderers get to go to tea with an ex-President (and probably a media career and a film about them) so it's worth a gamble. American Roulette.

Says it all:
'After a brief dip last year during coronavirus lockdowns, the number of such attacks has rebounded with 138 incidents of gunfire on school grounds so far in 2021.'

Was going to make a jokey comment, but thinking about my kids in a high school half a mile away...any other country in the world would surely do something about this?
I worked near Dunblane at the time, I remember parents in my dept diving into cars and driving out as soon as the news broke. They let classes know one by one, till it was just the P1 class's parents hanging about outside the school, must have been unimaginable awful.
My 13yr old keeps going on about Airsoft, I really don't want him too, but can't explain why not without getting upset.
