Zimmerman was due to speak at a hotel near here at a gun conference, when they found out who was speaking they cancelled the whole thing. I’m mildly impressed given how red and gun friendly this state is.

Some comparisons happening with the Casey Anthony case from a while ago, especially with regards to the wrong charges being filed. It’s being argued that lower charges (second degree or manslaughter) could have been a prosecutorial slam dunk, and that first degree is often too difficult to prove without overwhelming evidence. The jurors in the Anthony case all basically said “we don’t think she’s innocent but there’s not enough proof for the charge”, I’m wondering if we’ll see similar comments here. Why the actual fuck are those not an option/weren't they filed? He has killed people and he is not going to be incarcerated. Make it make sense (This is rhetorical, obviously)

Just read the headline... Can't remember the last time I felt so shocked by one. What the fuck.

Just read the headline... Can't remember the last time I felt so shocked by one. What the fuck. And the cycle will no doubt continue, with a whole bunch of other little incels emboldened to wander into something they have no idea about, empathy with, or business being around other than "wahhh I hate it", while wielding a weapon of mass murder. Well done America

Given that it's perfectly legal in the US to shoot people dead if they look at you the wrong way, this is the correct outcome, no?

CNN says he didn't bring that gun across state lines but stayed at some friends in Wisconsin who bought the gun for him. Don't know if that's better. "Did you bring that with you from Illinois?" - "Nah, it's was a gift from locals."

No, but because he didn't, there wasn't, you can't. Muh rights! Also, did anyone mention that an AR-15 isn't actually an automatic and is great for target shooting and hunting!?

Fuck me. The big, massive, fucked up problem this creates is the precedent, now in law. With a right wing Supreme court...
Good luck.

I don't think precedent will be a problem as it's a verdict on the case itself. It does open the door a bit though I guess.

Grim. What's with the weasel words in this extract (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/nov/22/several-injured-after-car-speeds-through-christmas-parade-in-wisconsin-reports)?
It either does or it doesn't, right?

From the sound of the earliest reports it was a vehicle involved in a police chase and seems to be an accident rather than an attack.

Unconfirmed at this stage, but it's on the BBC report as well as the US one I read this morning:

If the driver wanted to cause maximum carnage they'd have begun running people over much sooner down the road, from the footage I've seen.

Yeah it seems like this guy was a total asshole who was fleeing after committing some domestic violence (not for the first time), probably had no real idea about the parade existing (he seems like a moron from his social media), was quite likely was drunk/high, and thought he could just hurtle down that route, but then got to the point where the parade filled the whole route, and decided not to stop. He certainly didn't appear to aim for maximum damage, but rather driving through anyone in his way of getting where he was going. Which is still horrifying but at least means this terrorist stuff is all gibber.

Gotta love the defendants' claim of self defense against a man in joggers running away from them as they chased after him in a truck while armed with a shotgun. Absolute shitstains of humanity right there. Also love their barely coded language of a black man running around as being 'frightening' and 'unsettling'.
