Styx annoyed the hell out of me due to all the poison dealing enemies. I preferred weapons that allowed me to keep my distance, getting up close always ruined my run.

I use dash-strike a LOT in Styx if I'm not ranged. And always pick something with bonus damage to armour if it's offered. Once the rats aren't yellow any more, you can stun-lock them pretty easily.
I switched on God Mode the other day- it got so I was escaping more often than not anyway, and now I just want to clear up the remaining story threads quickly and efficiently. Didn't realise God Mode levels up too, getting it up to 80% damage reduction will really tip the balance.

Athena dash is good if you’re struggling with Styx (or anything). It fires the poison darts back at those Viking looking wankers which does really good DPS on them.

Finally got to Hades, twice. Managed to get him down to about 50% life both times too. Suffering with shit weapons and need more blood. Not helped by the fact that I wasted two vials of it on the sword's first aspect Got the fishing rod, but not had any luck yet.
Managed to fuck myself over royally on my last run. Using the Sword, I took the Daedalus Boon which reduces overall life but recharges it with every attack. Combined with Demeter's laser crystals I was smashing the place up. Then for my second Daedalus Boon, like a complete donkey, I choose to swap my attack combo for a slow overhead strike. In Elysium, with the chariots and the regenerating fuckers. Obviously I didn't last long.

The thing about Hades (the boss) is that he's very good at making you panic. Which should not be the case, because his attacks are all pretty well telegraphed and/or avoidable. But there's that pressure of failing your run at the final stage, which makes him seem far more dangerous than he actually is.
Maybe that's not all that great as advice. But imo he's easier than the Elysium bosses, and if you can reliably beat them you're more than on your way to beating Hades.
Until you start adding difficulty modifiers lol

I'n now at a point where I will always reach the end of Elysium, and about a 50% chance I'll get past, depending on if I picked boons to win or picked them just to cross them of the list of prophecies...
Managed to defeat the big guy once so far (twin fists and a bunch of Poseidon boons), but got really close two more times...
I see people mention God mode? What's that all about?
Surprised to see people hating on the sword, I think it's my main weapon alongside the fists...

God mode is a thing you can activate in the options that gives you a set amount of damage resistance, and increases it every time you fail a run. I think the max is 25%? It might be more.
There's no penalty for using it; it's just something there for people who need a bit extra to get over the difficulty hump. Personally I used it a bit until I finished a couple of runs, then turned it off once I was more familiar with boss attack patterns and such.

I almost never take the "lose one random Deadalus upgrade and gain two" thing from the Styx shop for that reason. For what it's worth, I have the sword's first aspect fully uograded and love it. The later aspects are more interesting in how they change movesets or whatever, but 15% move and attack speed boost is decent

MolarAm🔵 : Right, thanks...Don't think I'll go with that one just yet. Another "I'd rather ask you lot than risks spoilers by Googling" question. I've unlocked the door to the Archive room? Nothing to do though I see that "companions" are a thing. Anything in particular I need to do to unlock them or just keep making runs and they'll eventually unlock? I'm at about 50-ish attempts now...

Try making friends with various characters. Give them gifts and such.
EDIT: in response to the second question. See Geoff's answer for the first question.

At some point you will have a flashback about going into the room. After that you should be able to buy access from the contractor. It just contains really granular stats.
I think it might be an 'end game' activity, so you will need min 10 clears.

I've given all characters at least one jar of nectar, not found anyone who will take ambrosia as of yet... I'm progressing some story lines for side characters. I'll just keep at it and see where it takes me...

No-one takes ambrosia straight away, they all need a few jars of nectar first. There's a visual indicator which tells you how much you'll need (which could be considered a very minor spoiler / probably not even a spoiler but just in case): the hearts next to their entry in the codex (or whatever it's called) - one fills for each nectar, and there's one with a lock on it that "unlocks" the next phase of your relationship with them - and allows you to give them ambrosia

hedben: Cheers, I thought it would've only been for achievements or something, giving them more than one bottle. I tried by giving Achilles a bunch but he just said he wants to be friends, nothing more. Which wasn't what I was going for but that made me think it didn't have any use. That's a ton of nectar I'd need to find though...

Once youve unlocked everything on the mirror, keys are pretty much useless so you can bosh them in for nectar at the vendor, so that helps.

Yes, and I end up with quite a few keys because I like having a re-roll when I don't like the boons on offer. Keys to nectar and nectar to diamonds is a good way of using the vendor to get all the diamond unlocks you want.

Made it to Hades again, but killed by his second form. Using the spear and a fuckloads of low-level boons. If I could've got a few levelled up I reckon I would've done it.
Spear definitely seems to be the weapon I do best with, alongside the gun. I find the fists difficult.

Finally got the end credits (proabably ~130-150) runs. I still struggle to beat Hades, I can get to Styx pretty much every time but if the build is not right I can soon burn through all my death defiance. I've turned god mode on now so hopefully I can burn through some of the quests a bit quicker. It's amazing how different it plays depending on what weapons/boons you pick up.

I find it amazing how different people's preferred weapons are. It took me absolute ages to win a run with the sword or spear, no matter what boons I got. But throw me a shield or bow and I'll be unstoppable. It's a mark of good balance, I suppose.

At first I hated the fists, seemed like going close up was a suicide run waiting to happen.
Now they are my favourite weapon by far and super fun to use.

I had a go this week for the first time in a month expecting to be terrible, and was pleased that I got 3 clears in a row.
It got me wondering, how many more times would I need to play so that 50% of my runs were clears.... But surely I can't be dragged back in to this again... Can I?

Finally got the platinum \o/
Bit of a grind towards the end to max the keepsakes, but there were plenty of prophecies and relationships left to keep things interesting away from the trophies. I still have a few to do before I move on, including a couple of Daedalus hammer enhancements that elude me, and I'm still waiting for Orpheus to help me out with something!

Is it me or is Elysium much harder than Styx? It's the butterfly fucks and the regenerating bastards, and the butterfly miniboss can fuck right off.

Yes, for me Elysium is where runs go to die. It's a combination of a lot of things, but those fucking chariots are the worst part.
In most cases, if I can beat that then I go on to win the whole run.

I tended to stay away from it because it’s not that useful for bosses but something with bonus armour damage is useful for that stage.
It does actually help with mobs bosses so spawn, so I was wrong on that front, too.

Finally did it. Used the shield and a powered up special; hangover, Daedalus boon for extra range and bounces, and a speed boon made it more or less game-breaking. Other attacks had a few decent boons backing up the special nicely.
Basically spammed the special for Tartarus and Asphodel, even Elysium was fairly easy, although I lost a life against Theseus and the Minotaur. Died a couple more times against Hades, but I reckon I could've avoided those.

My son, about to turn 9, likes Minecraft dungeons and want's to get the expansion pack for it. But, being a parent I thought that maybe I should try and upgrade him to better games.
So, is Hades a hack and slash that can be played by someone who skips all dialog?

Tonka (🐑,🪤) Not really, but it's worth him trying it anyway because it's a great game. You *could* skip all the dialog but that's what sets it apart from other roguelikes, it's really good. And the combat requires some finesse, as does the selection of boons and weapons once you get into it.

Thanks for the reply
So the dialog provides useful hints and not just plot? Still tempted to give it to him for the hack and slash bits. Might give him some reason to practice his english as well.
